MMAM(FTP) Final Project: First Phase Tutor’s Report, 27 February 2024
MMAM ( FTP ) Final Project – First Phase Tutor’s Report, 27 February 2024
Brief: Create a multimedia installation in the foyer of RD 8’s headquarters for the company’s in-house event. The company is launching a new generation of mobile-payment systems that blend radio waves with cloud-based technology.
Overview: The students prepared for a pitch meeting with their client by researching the company and the wider world of wireless payment systems. We rehearsed our pitch in the studio and divided the presentation between all six group members. The result was a perfectly crafted talk that suitably impressed Mae and her team at RD 8. There followed a sourcing trip to the company’s facility in Somerset and thus began our construction of the experiential tunnel, clay sculpture and immersive sound experience for the installation.
Jemisha Badhuri
As financial manager, Jem delivered a report into how much the installation would cost the client and why it was so expensive. Always enthusiastic, Jem delivered her proposed speech and then suggested a few further ideas of her own. Jem was selected for this course because her creative flair in more unusual mediums – sound and 3D – is outstanding. Given her relative youth, one might expect her to be a rather more reticent and self-effacing character than she is.
Patrick Bright
Patrick is resource coordinator for this project, a role I gave him to counteract his habit of shrinking behind some of the more dominant members of the group. If it’s possible for someone to be too nice, Patrick is that. In this role he proved quite unable to assert himself, leaving Jonathan to take up the slack. Even a simple matter of booking hotel rooms was whisked out of his hands by Jem, who had another agenda entirely. Patrick should work on his confidence in taking the initiative.
Jonathan Danners
I chose Jonathan as project leader because I felt he deserved to have power restored to him after what happened with Alyson and his first project. He and Alyson have established a personal relationship quite at odds with how she treated him that day. Still, I could not have chosen anyone better to lead this group of creatives. Jonathan is calm, decisive and fair.
Alyson Lang
Alyson is the best creative director this project could have. She thinks inside and outside the box simultaneously. Despite this, she is also mindful of how important it is to keep other students happy, and will adapt her work to ensure the client’s needs are met, as well as those of the group.
Ludya Parak
So far Ludya has managed her time, and that of the group, effectively, although it is fair to say that deadlines have not loomed over us yet, so ‘time’ will tell if she can keep up the good work. Ludya was selected for this course because professional design expertise will bestow credibility on it. So far she has not disappointed.
Cameron Wesley
It is with great sadness that Cameron has had to step back from the practical side of this course. Seeing as he attended the sourcing trip and will write a long essay, there is no reason he should not be able to scrape a grade. As a high-earning professional looking to build his creative skills, he is a valuable member of the team and it would be a shame to lose him completely.

Gela Nathaniel
Have you got it?
Cameron Wesley
Yes, it’s safe. But I can’t keep messaging you. It’s too risky.
Gela Nathaniel
I understand. Kiss-kiss.
Cameron Wesley
Kiss-kiss.

The radio is gone. Sob! Is woodworm that bad?
Patrick Bright
Woodworm is that bad. I hadn’t noticed it, though. Did anyone else?
Ludya Parak
Gross. No.

You’re not picking up. I’ve called three times.
Gela Nathaniel
I’m driving. Don’t message me on Doodle.

Where’s Alyson?
Patrick Bright
How do you mean?
Jem Badhuri
She wasn’t in the studio this morning.
Patrick Bright
She was, I spoke to her in the foyer about my resin mould. She went straight next door to work with the potters’ wheel. You’re right, she didn’t come back after that. Probably smoking with the undergrads.
Jem Badhuri
Jonathan seemed a bit down. He came in with Gela this morning. Far earlier than usual.
Patrick Bright
You’re very observant, Ms Badhuri – anything else I should know?
Jem Badhuri
You’d be surprised what I notice, Pat! I wonder if there’s trouble between J and A. They were glued together before Somerset. Now Jonathan is super-quiet and it seems Alyson is hardly ever here.
