Royal Hastings, University of London Multimedia Art MA Final Project

Candidate name: Ludya Parak

Candidate number: 0883481

Introduction:

If I told you the truth, you wouldn’t believe it.

My backstory:

I was born in London, but my parents are Albanian. Yes, like Dua Lipa. No, I don’t know her. Went to school in Dulwich. Did a foundation course in Wimbledon, then studied design in Warwickshire. I’m a graphic designer and met Gela through a networking event in Dalston last summer. She sold MMAM to me and suggested I apply. I told her I’m a single parent and some things are in short supply. Like money and time. But she said she’d help out with both. She organised a grant for the fee and said I could choose my hours. I’m grateful for the grant, but none of the other students on the course have young kids and they couldn’t accept I wouldn’t be in the studio 24/7. I can’t lie, I’m glad it’s all over.

Doodle message group [Private] Jem and Patrick, 16 January 2024:

Jem Badhuri

Where are you? Has anything gone wrong yet?

Patrick Bright

We’re on the motorway. All good.

Jem Badhuri

Where are you now?

Patrick Bright

Nearly at Yeovil. I’ll let you know how we get on.

Jem Badhuri

Did you get there OK? What was Ludya’s driving like? Are Alyson and Jonathan behaving themselves?

Patrick Bright

All good, Jem. Very interesting place. A bit weird. But they gave us lots of bits and pieces. You’ll be delighted.

Jem Badhuri

Let Jonathan know the roll of fabric he didn’t tell me about has arrived. We don’t need it yet, so Gela and I stashed it out of the way.

Patrick Bright

We’re stopping off to eat, then crash at the motel.

Jem Badhuri

There’s no budget for food. You’ll have to pay for yourselves.

Patrick Bright

Jem, we’re at the Travel Inn. There’s a problem. I remember booking five of the cheap rooms, but the receptionist says the booking is for one room only.

Jem Badhuri

Yes, a super family room. It sleeps up to six. There’s only five of you.

Patrick Bright

It sleeps six, but it’s one double bed and two sets of children’s bunks.

Jem Badhuri

Yes, great value. So much cheaper than five separate rooms. Because I amended the order within twenty-four hours, the lovely lady on the phone refunded the difference. I was only thinking of the budget, especially after logging such a hefty receipt from Ludya. If anyone doesn’t like it, they can pay for their own room.

Patrick Bright

They can’t. The place is fully booked. The receptionist says it was booked out yesterday by people attending a funeral.

Jem Badhuri

There must be lots of other hotels.

Patrick Bright

We rang round a few, but they were fully booked too and, even if they hadn’t been, the car is so low on charge it has to be plugged in all night. I don’t know what we’re going to do. We can’t all bunk up together in one room.

Jem Badhuri

Have Jonathan and Alyson bagged the double bed? OMG , I bet they’re fuming!

Patrick Bright

I may have to sleep in the people-carrier.

Doodle message group [Private] Ludya and Jem, 16 January 2024:

Ludya Parak

Why? Because no one wanted you to come with us?

Jem

I’m financial manager and I’m maximising our budget. Don’t know what the problem is.
