25. Chase

What the fuck was he thinking? Chase kept asking himself over and over. Why on earth would he go with Peabody? He knew the dangers he might face. So why? What did he think he was going to do? Take him down with his sarcasm and witty charm? Perhaps knock him unconscious with those seductive eyes of his?

Seriously! What the fuck?!

Chase was both terrified and pissed. Terrified that something could happen to Levi and pissed that the little twerp did something so irresponsible.

Oh, the things he was going to do to that purple-eyed little twink when he got his hands on him. Beat him silly with the length of his cock for starters. Then, perhaps, tie him to the bed, naked and ass up, while he smacks the shit out of that tight little butt of his with his solid piece of meat. Teach that boy that he better listen to Daddy's instructions the next time he gets some wild idea in his head about playing hero and doing something so stupid.

Seriously? Why the fuck!

Parking at the side of the road, he pulled his gun out of the glove compartment and checked the clip. There were enough bullets in there for what he wanted to do. Two to the knees and one to the shoulder, just enough to incapacitate the old bastard.

He hopped out of the car, eyes blazing, and ran up the long walkway. When he reached the door, he began pounding on it. He was so angry that he felt like he was watching himself from outside of his body.

Rage and anger had taken control of him. Reason and patience had been tied up and thrown into a dark hole somewhere. They were no longer part of his functioning body. His body was now being driven by pure emotion and instinct.

God, help them all.

The front light came on a moment before the front door opened.

"Can I help you, young man?" an older gentleman greeted. Chase instantly recognized him from the photos. He had aged a few years, but it was definitely him.

"Where is he?" Chase growled, pushing past Peabody and charging into the house.

"Hey! You can't come in here!" the man shouted, slamming the door behind him and rushing after his home invader.

"Levi!" Chase shouted as he stormed through the hallway. At this point, Chase wasn't even thinking about remaining undercover. His only thought was on Levi and making sure that he was alright.

He stepped into the living room.

"Levi?" he called again, desperately searching for signs of his boy.

Nothing.

"I said get out!" Mr. Peabody shouted, thrashing his fist toward the man who had stormed into his home.

"Where is he?" Chase growled, snapping back toward Peabody.

Peabody jerked back in fear. "Who? What are you talking about?"

"Levi. Cute guy, purple eyes, amazing smile? I know he was here. The guys at the club said he came home with you." Chase stormed off into the kitchen.

Empty.

Two empty glasses of wine sat in the sink, waiting to be washed. A tiny pool of red liquid still sat at the bottom of each glass.

Chase pointed. "Ah, ha! Two glasses. So, he was here!"

"I don't know who you are, but I'm calling the police," Peabody shouted, picking up his cell phone and placing it to his ear.

"Go ahead! I'd love to tell them how you like to kidnap and kill people. Let them arrest your ass on the spot and cart you off to prison. Now, where is Levi?" he shouted once again.

This time he took off upstairs, hoping he would find Levi asleep, safe in this monster's bed. He tore open every door he passed.

No one. All empty.

When he finally got to the master suite, he yanked open the door and rushed inside. The bed lay perfectly made, still unused for the night. But no Levi.

Chase wasn't sure if he should be thankful that Levi hadn't used Peabody's bed or disappointed that he didn't find him alive and nestled in the sheets.

While seeing his boy lying in Peabody's bed would have torn his heart to shreds and set off every animalistic need to smash and murder the man who fucked his boy, he still would have been happy to find Levi and know that he was safe and alive.

Fuck, once he found Levi, they were going to have to have a talk about his job and sleeping with other men. His heart wouldn't be able to take it. Chase was a one-man kind of guy, and when he was in love with someone, they belonged to him and only him. Fuck. What was he saying? Could they really be together? He fucking loved the little twerp but also hated his job.

Jesus! Now was not the time to be thinking about such things.

Where the fuck was he?

The basement!

"I told you to get out of my house!" Peabody shouted in the doorway before being knocked to the ground by Hurricane Chase as he ripped past him and sped toward the basement.

This must be it. His heart was pounding. He had a feeling that when he pulled open the door, he would see Levi tied to a pole, terrified out of his mind.

He rushed downstairs, not even thinking about checking his surroundings for hazards. That was the first thing they taught you at the Academy—never run into a room blind. Also, know your surroundings and have at least two ways out.

Chase had none of these.

When he reached the basement, there were rooms and sections all divided throughout. He rushed down the hallway, opening every door he passed, shouting for Levi to call out to him.

Where was he?

He was so frustrated and tired. If anything happened to the boy, he would never forgive himself. Why did he leave Levi alone tonight? If he had been there, watching over him, perhaps this would not have happened.

Once he reached the last door, he swallowed and tried to ignore the major knot in his stomach. This was it. The last door. What would he do if Levi wasn't inside?

He threw open the door and rushed inside.

His heart sank.

Empty.

This room was being used as a cold cellar. Jar after jar of jams and preserves all lined up in neat little rows on shelves, all waiting for consumption.

Fuck! Where was he?

"I don't know what sort of drugs you're on, but you better leave now before the police arrive. They are already on their way!" Peabody shouted.

Chase snapped his head around one last time.

He had to leave now before the cops arrived and charged him for forced entry, probably assault and breaking and entering, to name just a few felonies he had just committed.

"This isn't over, old man!" Chase threatened as he ran up the stairs and out the back door. He could already hear the sirens coming.

Fuck,he hated this feeling.

He sped off, heading straight to the mansion. Matteo would want an in-person update. He was already furious at Levi for going home with the guy and would now be worried as sin when he found out that Levi couldn't be located.

"So, where is he?" Matteo asked in a panic when he saw Chase approaching the front door alone.

The man looked disheveled, tie pulled loose, hair out of place. Nothing like the neatly kept man he had been introduced to over the past few days.

"Don't know. I couldn't find him," Chase huffed.

A group of men, guests for the night, stood off to the side, watching them.

"Let's take this to my office," Matteo said, grabbing Chase by the arm and pulling him down the hallway.

Chase was still in a daze. How could he have lost Levi? The boy was pure sunshine. Would he ever get to see that beautiful smiling face again?

"Hey! Snap out of it," Matteo shouted at Chase. "I need you clear-headed and focused." Matteo pressed a button on his desk phone. "Send them in," he said to the male voice on the other end of the speaker.

A moment later, the office door burst open, and in rushed Isaac, followed by Jared, Marc and Alex.

Isaac moved toward Chase.

"Is it true? Has Levi been taken?" Isaac asked, his eyes wide with worry.

Chase watched as the snake tattoo on Isaac's neck seemed to pulsate as he talked to him. He had never noticed how big the tattoo was before. It ran just below his ear and down across his back.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out," Chase growled. He couldn't deal with a neurotic skater boy on top of everything else he was trying to process.

Sensing Chase's frustration, Jared grabbed Isaac by the shoulders and pulled him down into his lap. They sat a few feet away from the desk, next to a large stone fireplace.

Marc and Alex took a seat on the loveseat across from Jared and Isaac while Matteo motioned for Chase to join them in the sitting area of his office.

"Okay, let's review the facts," Marc said, standing up and beginning to pace back and forth.

Alex took out his iPad and began taking notes.

"Earlier this evening, Jared said he spoke with Levi, who asked him to let Matteo know that he was going home with Peabody."

"Correct," Jared confirmed.

"Did you see them leave together?" Marc asked.

"No. I went to work the room after I spoke with Levi."

"And did you see them leave together on your security camera?" Marc asked Matteo.

Matteo shook his head. "No. Peabody left in his car about twenty minutes before Levi. Levi hopped in a taxi when he left here."

"So, we have no physical evidence connecting Peabody to Levi's disappearance." It was a fact, not a question.

"No," Matteo added as if he was asked.

"Chase, tell me what happened when you went to the house," Marc asked, sitting back down next to Alex and rubbing his chin.

Apparently, Marc was a thinker. He liked to analyze all possible options before determining a course of action. From what Chase had been told, Marc was some sort of a genius when it came to strategizing.

Chase walked them through his encounter with Peabody, as well as his sprint around the house like a madman.

"That's strange. We must be missing something," Marc added, staring at the fire burning in the fireplace. Red and yellow lights danced in his eyes, taking on a life of their own. "I'll pull a schematic of the property, see if there are any additional parts of the house you may have missed, and I'll also check the surrounding areas."

"What do you want us to do?" Isaac asked, biting his thumbnail.

"Nothing," Marc said, cold as always.

Isaac glanced over at Matteo. "Are you fucking serious? Our brother is missing, there is no fucking way we are sitting around doing nothing."

Matteo crossed his arms against his massive chest. His black pin-striped suit looked like it had been through the wringer. His light purple tie reminded Chase of the gentle color of Levi's eyes. God, he missed those eyes.

"I'm going to call in my own contacts and see if I can get any useful information that might help with this case," Matteo added.

Isaac continued squirming in Jared's lap. He was like a nervous puppy needing something to do to work off all his pent-up energy.

"You two, speak with the other boys in the club. See if they saw anything or know anything that might help us," Matteo ordered Isaac and Jared.

"Sure thing," Jared nodded.

Chase glanced at his watch; it was just after three in the morning. He wanted to flip through the journal, the book he had aptly named the Book of Sin, and see if there was any other information that might help them.

"How about we meet up in a few hours and see where we are then?" Marc asked, looking around the room.

"Sounds good. You and your husband are welcome to stay the night. I'll have Jared show you to one of our guest suites," Matteo offered, standing up and heading toward the door.

He glanced back over at Isaac. "We are going to get our boy back. I promise you that. No one messes with our family and lives to tell the tale."

Chase watched as Matteo's ocean-blue eyes darkened, leaving behind the eyes of a man who had seen darkness.

Marc smiled, recognizing the look in Matteo's eyes.

The hunt was about to begin.
