Chapter 18
Remus
She knew how to get a rise out of me. I should use the shock collar on her whenever she was rude. I paused to take a bite out of my pizza. No, that wouldn't work, as she was as stubborn as a damn mule. She started her period, and I could smell the blood. It should have disgusted me, but the combination of her scent and the blood was alluring.
Why the fuck was I sitting here thinking about her?
I would be living in this shithole of an asylum for her. It didn't matter that my room was refurbished. The kitchen and dining facilities were not up to my usual standards. But I needed to be here for when she turned again. I was looking forward to our wolves meeting. It might be good for her to let her out for a run as we were surrounded by farmland.
The thought of being in total control of my wolf and dominating hers was appealing. I finished my last bite of pizza before I scrolled through all the news headlines for any animal mauling incidents because I couldn't understand why the police hadn't released any information about the missing people to the media.
Zailah had lost quite a bit of weight, and I didn't like it. Her face looked thinner, and that beautiful ass of hers was suffering. I flicked to the camera app to see if she was eating. My head moved close to the phone screen because she was slumped on the bed in a strange position. Her legs were crossed and in a seated position, but her body lay to one side.
I gripped my phone to my side and ran into the hallway to the room. Once I grabbed the keys from the wall, I opened the metal gate to check on her. That’s when I saw the glass vial on the bed, but it was empty. I couldn't think what she might have taken. It couldn’t be silver. I pulled her to her side and opened her mouth to see the burn marks.
Silver.
I voice-activated a call to Dr Lawrence and put it on speaker while I stuck my fingers into her mouth, hoping to make her vomit. When nothing happened, I checked for a pulse.
“Zailah, wake up,”
I said when I couldn't find a pulse.
I began to slap her face when Dr Lawrence answered his phone lightly.
“She drank a full vial of silver,”
I said, trying to remain calm as I moved her hair away from her neck so I could try to find a pulse. “I can't find a pulse.”
“Go get the defibrillator,”
he said. “Quickly. Fuck, I’m on my way.”
It was the first time I’d heard Dr Lawrence curse. I shook my head at the inane thought at this time. I left her lying on her side, grabbed my phone and ran to the lab.
“Talk me through it while I get it,”
I said as I listened to his instructions.
I was so close to obtaining everything I’d ever wanted. I wasn’t sure if another werewolf could be created let alone experimented on.

“She is in a coma,”
I parroted the doctor’s words.
“It’s not looking good because I can't see any brain activity,”
Dr Lawrence said as he scrunched his face to look at the screen.
“Can you continue the work if she is like this or if she changes into her wolf whilst being in a coma?” I asked.
“Uh, I could try, but she might not change into her wolf,”
he said as he nervously tugged on his collar.
He knew what happened to Shelton and feared he would be next. This was an inconvenience I hadn't planned for. I was so glad I revived her with the defibrillator because this wasn't over yet. I wasn't done with her. The more I thought about her trying to kill herself to get away from me, the angrier I got.
How fucking dare she try to leave me?
“Take my cells when I change if she doesn't. Once the last IV bag for the cleanse is done, I will move her.”
“Yes, the nurse will be coming tomorrow morning to fit her feeding tube and catheter. Just leave her heart monitor on wherever you move her to.”
I didn't respond because I was busy planning on moving her upstairs to keep a close eye on her.
After the Doctor left, I sat staring at Zailah. The longer I sat, the darker my thoughts became.
I created her. I owned her life, and I decided if she died or not.
