7. Telling the Grandparents

Blake’s POV(three weeks later)

These past three weeks have been torture.

I’ve barley slept and ate.

My wolf has been silent.

Every now and then there are rogues with Artemis’s calling card on it.

It makes me so worried about her. She could be badly hurt and all alone. I know she’s tough but she’s still my mate. It’s my job to worry about her.

I snuck into her house and took one of her hoodies because her scent on it relaxes me.

I also leave notes at her door. Telling her how much I need her but I still expect her space.

I need to go out for a run.

I walked out of my bedroom and headed outside. I stripped down and shifted while carrying my clothes on my mouth. I gave Gavin control.

He started running faster. A collapsed tree was getting closer to us. He leaped and landed perfectly on all four paws.

He stopped suddenly and walked behind a tree. He gave me back control and told me to shift back.

I obeyed. I walked out from behind the tree and was hit with the sweet smell of my mate.

I walked back behind the tree and peaked my head out to watch her.

She punched a rogue’s throat and then put an arrow through him.

Another was coming back behind her but she didn’t see him because she was trying to kill the rogue in front of her.

She killed the rogue in front of her but still couldn’t sense the one behind her.

I growled and lunged at the rogue coming up behind her.

She quickly turned around ready to shoot another arrow. But she put it away when she saw me snap the rogue’s neck.

“Alpha Blake, why are you here? You could have gotten hurt.” She asked.

“You’re worried about me?” I smirked.

“I’m just saying if you’re injured there will be no one to take care of your pack.” She pointed out.

“Untrue. You’ll take care of our pack.” I correct.

“Your pack will never accept a huntress, or give me their trust.” She was about to leave but I grabbed her wrist and spun her around.

“I don’t care.” I pulled her into a hug and nuzzled my head in her neck. “As long as I’m with you and I’m sorry for hitting you.”

I kissed her neck gently. I saw her shiver in delight. I smirked against her skin.

I kept kissing her neck until a hit her “sweet spot” where I was supposed to mark her.

I pulled away from her neck. “Not yet but soon.” I kissed her forehead.

“I-I have t-to go. Midnight is waiting f-for me.” She stuttered.

“Can I can with you? I couldn’t stand being away from you for so long. I need you by my side.” I begged.

“Just for today.” She got out of my arms and started walking.

I followed her and took a hold of her hand but she snatched it back.

That hurt.

I put my arm around her shoulder but she shrugged it off.

Ouch.

I put an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to me but she smacked my hand away.

Why won’t she let me touch her!?

Throw the dog a bone.

Her house came into view. As soon as we were inside Midnight ran up to me and growled at me.

Geez, what did I ever do to her?

Besides dognapped her.

“Midnight it’s OK. He’s just staying here for today.” Artemis told Midnight.

Midnight sent a glare my way then walked off.

“I don’t think she likes me.” I assumed.

“Well you gave her plenty of reasons.” Artemis pointed out. “I’m going to shower and change. Make yourself at home.”

She walked off into one of the bedrooms.

Her scent lingered all around the house. It was my drug.

I walked into her living room. There was a picture of her and an elderly couple.

And another picture of a baby being carried by a younger couple.

The women in the photo had a gold coin around her neck just like the one that Artemis has.

Those must be her grandparents and parents.

I sat down on the couch with the picture of the young couple and the baby.

I just kept staring at it until I was interrupted by a voice.

“What are you doing with that?” My mate asked.

She was wearing white shorts, a black top and blue suspenders and she didn’t have her glasses.

“I was just looking at it.” I replied.

She took the frame from me and placed it back in her original spot.

“Are those your parents?” I asked.

She visibly tensed. “Yes.”

She looked lime she was about to brake down. She kept her gaze on the picture.

I came up to her and hugged her from behind pulling her into my chest. She relaxed a bit.

“Why didn’t you let me touch you when we were in the forest?” I tried changing the subject.

“Because I was dressed as Robin Hood and if the rogues knew I had someone special they would get to me through them.” She explained as she turned around to face me.

“So, I’m someone special to you.” I smirked.

“They would kill you.”

“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m an alpha. I think I can protect myself pretty well.”

“Just because you have alpha blood doesn’t mean you can protect yourself. You have to learn. It doesn’t just come naturally.”

“Can you teach me?” I asked hopefully.

“I don’t think you can handle it.” She challenged.

“Please, I can handle anything.” I replied.

She smirked. “Follow me.”

She started to lead me to the basement. There was punching bags, weights, jump ropes, pretty much anything.

There was also some weapons hung up on the wall.

“Don’t touch those.” Artemis commanded.

“Why not?” I ask.

“There made of silver.”

I backed away from the weapons.

“Throw a punch at me.” Artemis said.

I looked at her like she grew two heads.

“What? No. I don’t want to hurt you.” I refused.

“You should feel lucky. Barley anyone has laid a hand on me.”

Good.

“I’m still not going to punch my mate.”

“Just do it you big wuss.”

I slowly threw my fist back. I closed my eyes and waited for my fist to make impact on her face.

Nothing happened.

I opened my eyes and saw that she caught my fist before it hit her.

She twisted my wrist then flipped me.

“Keep your wrist straight or you’ll risk breaking it. Also don’t be afraid to throw a good punch.” She explained.

“Did you have to flip me?” I asked irritated.

“You have to keep your opponent on the ground each chance you get. It increases your chance of winning.” She answered.

“I think I’ve had enough ‘teaching’ for one day.” I groaned getting up.

“Weakling.” She snickered before going upstairs.

‘Haha you just got your ass kicked.’ Gavin laughed at me.

‘I didn’t want to hurt her.’ I replied.

I went upstairs. Artemis was sitting on the couch with her laptop.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“I have to tell my grandparents about, well you.” She said nervously.

My nervousness and excitement rose up. I sat next to her as she hit the video call button.

It rang twice before the elderly couple I saw in the picture frame showed up on the screen.

“Hey sweetie. Did any rogues injure you?” The woman asked.

“No. I’m completely fine. I also have some news.” Artemis seemed really nervous.

I gabbed her hand and tried calming her down. She relaxed a bit.

“OK what is it?” The man asked.

“Please don’t freak out but it turns out I have a werewolf mate.”

The women turned to the man. “I told you Hank! Pay up!”

The man I guess is Hank pulled out his wallet and handed her a rolled up bill. “That’s not fair Linda.”

OK I know their names now. Linda and Hank.

“What is happening?” Artemis asked confused. “Did you guys bet on me?”

“Yes.” Linda said bluntly. “We- or I knew eventually you might get a werewolf mate. Now where is the lucky guy?”

Artemis smirked at me. “He’s right here.” She out the laptop on my lap.

“Hi.” I greeted nervously.

“Alpha Blake?” They both said confused.

“How do you guys know you I am?” I asked.

“We have files on every alpha in the world. It’s how I was able to recognize your wolf.” Artemis explained.

“Stalking me already?” I smirked as Artemis blushed.

“We are trusting you to keep our granddaughter safe, don’t break it.” Linda warned. “Use protection too. I don’t want a great grandmother yet.”

“Grandma!” Artemis blushed as I laughed.

“We got to go. Bye sweetie.” Hank ended the call.

Artemis placed her laptop on the coffee table. “I’m going to bed. It’s getting late. You can leave whenever you feel like it.”

She got up but I grabbed her waist and pulled her back onto the couch.

“Can I sleep in the same bed as you please? I can barley sleep without you.” I asked.

She sighed but nodded. She walked into her bedroom and room off her suspenders and laid in bed.

I got in with her and wrapped an arm around her. Her breaths become more steady and even she was asleep.

“I love you.” I kissed her forehead and went to sleep.
