Chapter Fourteen
Chapter Fourteen
Hawk
LEAVING MY ROOM after digging up more information about Martin, I head for Reaper's office. On my way there, I take a look in the common room from the hallway to see who's hanging around the clubhouse right now. Sitting at one of the tables is Zoey. She's got one of the twins up to her chest with a blanket covering him and Gideon is sitting with her. He's not saying a word or playing as he sits back in the chair and stares off into space. Even with the TV on, he isn't watching the cartoons on for him. Stopping in my tracks, I search what I can of the common room for Kendell as a pit forms in my stomach. It only gets worse when I don't see her. Yeah, I know she could be in the kitchen or bathroom, but something's telling me that's not the case. Instead of going to Reaper's office to talk to him about what I've found, I go into the common room and straight over to Gideon.
"Hey little man," I greet Gideon, bending down so I can look him in the eyes. "What are ya doin' out here without Aunt Kendell?"
"Mama," Gideon practically whispers, his little voice breaking my heart while knowing I'm doing everything I can to find her.
"I know, buddy. I'm gonna bring your mama back to you as soon as I can," I promise him even though I don't know if it's one I can keep or not. "Zoey, where's Kendell?"
"I don't know. She said she wanted to go to the house to get something but it's been a while since I've seen her. Gideon was sleeping when she came and asked me to keep an eye on him. I thought she would've been back by now," she answers me as the pit in my stomach becomes even heavier.
Standing from where I was crouching down next to Gideon, I race from the common room and back to my room. The second I slam the door closed behind me, I flop into my chair and pull up the program I installed on Kendell's phone. It not only allows me to track her, but I can see her most recent calls and read her messages. She knows I put it on her phone and was okay with it because of everything going on with Martin. Today that program is going to come in handy because I have a feeling that Martin contacted her and she's done something stupid instead of coming to me. Kendell trusts me, I have no doubt about that. However, everything with Martin is so up in the air with him having her sister and I know she'd put herself on the line without hesitation if it means getting Kelsey back.
Pulling up the information I need, I find that she got a call shortly after leaving my office. They weren't on the phone for very long before it ended. A while after that, she receives a text message. It's nothing but an address. Typing the address in a different program, I find it's one of the houses that Martin owns. My fingers fly across the keyboard as I get the blueprints, pictures of the property and house, and everything else I can get on the location. Once I have everything I need, I run from my room and head to Reaper. Knocking on his office door, I barely wait for him to respond before heading inside. Thankfully he's alone and not in here with Alex. One of the guys has been known to walk in on them together in here before. It's never been me, but a few of the others have.
"What's goin' on, Hawk? Are you okay?" Reaper questions me as I take a seat in the chair across from his desk.
"No, I'm not okay. Kendell's not here. Told Zoey she had to grab somethin' from the house and hasn't been back here since. Pulled up the records of her phone and she got a call from the same number Martin called her from before. Then a while later she got a message with an address. It's for one of Martin's properties. So, she went to him for some reason. There isn't a doubt in my mind. And because she went to him, I know for a fact where they are. Martin has Kendell and Kelsey at this address. I've pulled up everythin' we need to formulate a plan to get the girls out of there and take him out," I tell my President as he listens to everything I have to say.
"Get everyone back here now. We'll put a plan together and get the girls back. Hawk, your girl will come back where she belongs," Reaper promises me, his voice full of determination and steel like he gets when we're about to go on a mission or to war.
"On it," I tell him, grabbing everything I have with me and heading straight for church.
While I wait for everyone to show up, I can get everything ready so we're not wasting time. I put the blueprints in the middle of the table while plugging my laptop into the screen so everyone can see what I do if I have to pull something else up. Putting the pictures of the house down around the blueprints, I go over everything and make sure I haven't missed a single detail. The blueprints show me that there are two exits of the house. One in the front and one at the back of the house. However, there's things missing from the blueprints that I'm seeing in the pictures that I've printed out. I make a note of them so we can make sure nothing is left to chance. The things that aren't in the blueprints are two hidden rooms. One looks to be an underground bunker of some kind while the second one is an addition to the house that was done in the last few years. There's no exterior door on the addition though.
It doesn't take long for the room to start filling with everyone. They all take their seats and Reaper doesn't hesitate to call church to order.
"We've got an issue now that's even worse than Kelsey bein' taken by Martin. For those of you who don't know, Martin is Kelsey's husband and he's an abusive piece of shit. She came into our program to get the help she needs and was doin' amazin'. Kelsey has made a ton of progress since bein' here. Unlike some of the other people we get in here, she wants to put in the hard work and find out who she truly is as a person and mom to Gideon. I've gotten generic updates on her from the very second she showed up with the guys at the warehouses. Yesterday, he got onto the compound and stole Kelsey from Hawk's home. It's fuckin' trashed and we'll need to take care of it really soon," Reaper states, his voice echoes in the room and anger fills me with the thought of what the girls could be going through right now. I've seen Martin's handiwork and I know he won't hold back.
Reaper motions for me to take over because I have the information we need to move forward and put a plan in place to get the girls back.
"I put a program on Kendell's phone after Martin called her the first time. He's a fuckin' douche canoe and I knew there was no way in hell he'd leave her alone because there was no way for him to get in touch with Kelsey. Kendell knows the program is on her phone and she took it with her. I don't have a doubt that she needed it to get the message from Martin. The only good thing about this entire situation is that we have the exact address of where he's at and where we need to go. I've got the blueprints here on the table. There's two exits. One at the front and one at the back," I tell everyone, pointing out the exit points of the house. "As you can see from the pictures, there's been a few additions to the house that aren't on the blueprints."
I go through the pictures and point out the underground bunker and the room that was added on.
"There's bars on the windows of the first floor," Titan points out, picking up one of the pictures from the table and turning it around to point out what I missed.
"Okay. That eliminates even more ways for the fucker to escape. We all know this bitch is nothin' more than a pussy who won't fight a man but has no problems puttin' his hands on a woman and kid. I'm not sayin' he's hurt Gideon so far, but that doesn't mean it wasn't gonna happen in the very near future," Savage states, letting the anger he feels come out in his voice as he picks up another picture and studies it.
"Hawk, is there anythin' else you can pull up on this place?" Reaper questions me as I take my seat and open my laptop to pull up every single detail I can on the place.
We spend the next few hours going through every bit of information on the property and through the pictures. When we've determined that there's nothing more to discover that we're not already seeing, Reaper pulls the blueprints closer to him and starts putting a plan together. He's breaking us up into teams and giving us instructions to get everything in place before we head out to get my girl and her sister back.
Everything has been put in place and we all know what we're doing when it comes to getting to Kendell and Kelsey. The plan is simple and easy. But, I know there's a million and one things that can go wrong. Every single time we leave this compound and go out on some mission, we all know that there's a chance we won't come back or that we'll end up in the hospital because of something that has been done to us. It takes a second for the shit to hit the fan and a bullet to pierce your body when you didn't think that was even a possibility of happening. We all have bulletproof vests and grab them along with the rest of our gear.
I've wanted to lash out and destroy shit from the second I realized my girl was missing. Instead of doing that, I forced the need down in order to work and get every single piece of information we needed to bring the girls home to us. There's just one more thing I have to do before we head out. Kendell might be pissed at me, but the guys need to know what's going on if they're the ones who get to her before me. I won't have something happening that could've been prevented because no one knows our secret.
I check my guns and ammunition before loading everything up in my holsters. Sliding my cut off my shoulders, I set it on the end of my bed before putting my holster on. I'm not wearing my bulletproof vest because I know it's gonna go to Kendell once I get to her. With my holster in place, I put my cut back on over it to conceal what I'm carrying on me. Before I leave my room, I grab my knife and slide it down in my boot. It's a smaller knife and fits perfectly in there so I can grab it if someone takes my guns from me. Picking up the bulletproof vest from the end of my bed, I reach down and pick up my laptop so I have it with me in case we need to go over everything one more time before we head in to get the girls.
After making sure I'm ready to go and have everything I'll need, I make my way toward the common room. Everyone is gathered in there and I don't see any of the kids or ol' ladies. They've been taken out of the common room in case we need to have any last minute words before heading out. Stepping up next to Cash, I wait to see if Reaper's gonna say anything.
"We all know what we're about to do. Our main objective is gettin' Kendell and Kelsey out of the house with as little damage to them as possible. None of us know what's already been done to them. Martin's had them in his hands for hours now. Be careful when you get to the girls. Don't make any injuries they have worse because you're not bein' careful," Reaper says, his voice hard and cold as it always is when we're ready to head out on some kind of mission or war.
"There's somethin' you all should know," I speak up, moving closer to the other guys so they can hear what's going on without me having to repeat it. "Kendell's pregnant. We just found out. I want her protected at all costs even if I'm not the one protectin' her."
There's a round of congratulations from the guys before Reaper gives us the signal and we all head out to the vans and climb in them. I sit with Cash against the back door as we pull out. None of us say a word to one another as we all get our heads in the game and ready to focus where we need to. I'm not surprised because this is how we always are when we're heading out. The closer we get to the location, more of the guys in the van with me check their weapons and shit again. There's no way in hell that we want something to happen because we don't take extreme precaution and double or triple check everything. There isn't a single thing we don't do to protect ourselves and others around us as often as possible when we go into one of these situations.
"Are you ready for this?" Cash finally asks me when we're about fifteen minutes from the property we'll find the girls at.
"I'm more than ready. I want to get Kendell back home where she belongs," I tell my best friend as we continue to go through our weapons.
"So, you're really gonna be a dad? How you feelin' about that?" he asks me, his voice a whisper so the others have a harder time hearing our conversation.
"I'm excited but nervous as fuck at the same time. Kendell is scared and doesn't think I'm gonna stick around long-term. So, I have to prove to her that I'm not goin' anywhere. Kendell hasn't ever seen a relationship where everyone is happy and in it for the right reasons. I've never been in a relationship and she hasn't either. We're just kind of takin' this shit day by day. That's all we can do at this point," I tell him as I put my guns back in the holster and Cash does the same with his.
"I'm here no matter what either one of you need," he states before we each let ourselves focus on getting to the girls and keeping Martin as far away from them as possible.
"We're gonna leave the vans at the end of the road," Reaper says through the comms we all have in our ears.
"Need me to look at anythin' before we head out?" I return, needing to keep my mind focused because if I don't right now, I'll flip the fuck out and lose my shit.
"Nope. We got everythin' we need already. You've gone above and beyond, Hawk. We're gonna get your girl back. Keep your head in the game or stay in the van," Reaper demands, his voice still hard and cold as normal when we're out.
Titan's driving our van and he parks behind a large grouping of trees so no one can see the van from the road. We all climb out and wait for the other vans to park so they're out of the way so we can make the walk up to the house. There's no security system on this house so Martin won't have any clue we're coming up on him until we're ready for him to know.
Cash, Savage, and Trax surround me before I head out on my own. We want Martin to let his guard down and not think that we're gonna overrun him with the entire club. Not when he's just one man. Looking around, I take in the tall as fuck grass on either side of the dirt road. It's the perfect place for someone to wait and hide in an ambush. I keep my eyes peeled for anyone to pop out at me.
"I was wonderin' when you were gonna show up," I hear Greg say when I'm almost to the house after walking up the road for what seems like forever. "I thought the club would always have your back, Hawk. Where are they now? Didn't wanna go up against my brother? Or are they still out chasin' their tails lookin' for me? You guys are so fuckin' stupid."
Greg presses a gun to my temple and it takes everything in me not to immediately snap and blow his brains out. I bide my time as I start laughing while turning to face him. The second we're face-to-face, Greg's face pales. He wasn't expecting to face me before he pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, he's not gonna get what the fuck he wants this time.
"What's the matter, Greg? You can only shoot someone when they have their back to you?" I taunt him, waiting for him to lose his cool. "See, I knew all about you about five minutes after I realized my girl was missin'. Know you're the one that cut the hole in the fence at the compound because what you don't know is that there's security and cameras all over the place. You never did your job properly and that's on your ass. So now, it's time for you to get what's comin' your way."
Before he can say a word, I remove the gun from his hand and turn it on him. Cash and Titan come up behind him and detain him while the rest of the guys surround us. Greg doesn't try to fight or anything. He's a fucking pussy and knows he's done. Savage and my dad take him back to one of the vans while we make our way to the house. I'm so close to getting my girl back and there's nothing that's gonna stop me. Martin will take his last fucking breath today. Kendell and Kelsey will forget all about him eventually. I'll make sure they do. Those girls will get the peace they crave and deserve.
