Tyler and I arranged to meet downstairs at five so we could stop at The Roasted Bean before we left for the hayride. I had a feeling he was going to be early.

I had already changed my clothes three times. I didn't know why I was overthinking this. Of course, it was because it was Tyler. But, it was just Tyler. I knew I didn't have to impress him by dressing up.

I decided on a flannel over a tank top, skinny jeans, and my boots. My hair was pulled back into a ponytail. I was debating on taking a jacket when my dad called.

"Dad, is it cold out?" I said in greeting.

"Not right now, but you'll need your jacket later. Are you nervous?"

"Mhm," I said, trying not to poke myself putting my earrings in. "But I shouldn't be, right? I mean, it's just Tyler."

"Honey, it's not just Tyler. He means a lot to you already. Being nervous isn't a bad thing. It means that it's real."

"I guess. I'm just afraid that I'm going to mess up what we have."

"I know. But, you won't know until you take a chance."

"What if it doesn't work out?"

"Lexi, what do I always say?"

I sighed and rolled my eyes. "There's only one way to find out."

He laughed. "It's good advice. Just have fun today, okay?"

"I will."

I went downstairs at 4:30, and, sure enough, Tyler was leaning against the wall on his phone. A smile broke over his face when he saw me, and he held his hand out for me to take. I ignored it, wrapping my arms around his waist and leaning into him. He pulled me closer to him and kissed me on the forehead.

"Hi," I said into his chest.

He squeezed my shoulders and rested his head on top of mine.

"Why are you early?" I asked and felt him shrug.

I pulled away to look up at him. " Do you want to head to The Roasted Bean now?"

He nodded and took my hand as we walked out the door together.

"I'm feeling like a festive drink," I told Tyler when we were in line at The Roasted Bean. "How do you feel about apple cider?"

He contemplated for a second and nodded. He took cash out of his wallet and handed it to me.

"You don't need to," I started, but he cut me off with a look

It was our first date. Of course, he'd want to pay.

"Thank you," I said, slipping my hand into his.

I ordered two apple ciders, and then we headed in the direction of the hayride.
