Chapter Ten

Dean

"What's got you in such a good mood?" Jazmyn inquires, noting the smile on my face as soon as I walk through the door. "You're dating someone, aren't you?"

"I wouldn't exactly call it dating." I stop to let it sink in for a minute. I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess we are exclusive to one another.

I think there's only been one night in the last couple of weeks that we've not spent together and that's because Liz had a friend from college stop in to visit. The two of them had gone out to dinner and while she'd asked me numerous times to join them, I didn't want to intrude.

"Are you going to tell me about her or am I supposed to figure this out on my own? Where did you two meet?"

Jazmyn isn't going to let it go, so I pull out my phone and show her one of the photos I'd snapped of Liz the day we'd hung out at the Boardwalk. She'd insisted on riding the Ferris wheel and when we got all the way to the top, I couldn't resist taking a few photos. The view was absolutely stunning.

"I haven't mastered taking selfies yet, but this one turned out pretty good." I angle my phone so Jazmyn can see the one of us with the sun slipping behind the condos.

Jazmyn covers her mouth with her hand. "She's a doll. You look really happy together. Where did you two meet?"

I can't help laughing out loud. "Thirty-five thousand feet in the air."

"Get out of here!" she exclaims. "Next, you're going to tell me you joined the Mile High Club."

Not hardly! I've heard some crazy stories but that's the last place I'd want to be doing anything sexual.

"I think I'll pass on that one."

"I'm happy for you, Dr. Bolden. It's about time you found yourself a good one."

She could say that again. It has been nice spending time with Liz, even if it's just cuddling together on the sofa.

"She's certainly a lot of fun."

"Hey, would you two be interested in going to a baseball game tomorrow night? Tyler's got some extra tickets for the Sunrays' game and I'd hate for them to go to waste."

"You know, I haven't been to a game all season. I bet Liz would enjoy that."

"I'll send him a message and see if he can't drop them by here some time today."

"Thanks, Jazmyn."

I call Liz during my lunch break and give her a heads up about tomorrow night.

"Seriously?" she says when I tell her about the box seats we'll be sitting in.

"We'll be able to eat before the game starts and it won't be nearly as hot as it would be sitting in the regular seats."

"Wait until I tell Mr. Hillman about this. He's going to be so jealous."

"Are you still going over to see him this afternoon?" I never realized the rehab facility had visitor times and it nearly broke Liz's heart the first time she showed up and they wouldn't allow her to see him.

"Yes, he said his son had something he wanted to talk to me about and I'm wondering if Mr. Hillman is getting ready to come home. Won't that be great for him to be able to sleep in his own bed and eat breakfast in his own kitchen."

"I should be home no later than six unless something comes up here."

"Send me a text when you're getting ready to leave and I'll head on over."

"You got it." I don't know what I did to deserve it, but I never want this feeling to end. I know it's only been a few weeks, but Liz is definitely the real deal!
