31. Epilog

Chapter 31

Epilog

C loverhill was never the same after what happened two months ago. The story of the woman who was murdered by her best friend rocked the town and people still spoke about Emily to this day.

I liked knowing she wasn’t forgotten. Emily deserved to be remembered. In the same way, her killer deserved to be in prison for the rest of her life. I testified against Olivia in court and she faced the full weight of the law.

The police found Emily’s body in the woods close to Ian’s house just like Olivia said they would. Her aunt came in to identify the body and Emily was finally given a proper burial. Cloverhill went back to being a quiet town but the echoes of what happened still reverberated in the wind.

I received a medal from the mayor for my “dedication to uncovering the truth.” I didn’t expect to be rewarded. All that mattered to me was getting justice for Emily. Working on her case made me realize that I wanted to help other people like her so I decided to fully pursue a career in investigative journalism.

I had to leave my job at the Starlight Tribune to do that. Doing so also made a certain aspect of my life that much easier. I smiled as Ian’s arms came around my waist and his scent wafted to my nose. He kissed my shoulder before resting his head in the crook of my neck.

He was the only good thing that came out of this whole ordeal. I turned to face him and we kissed. “I love you,” I said as I held onto him tightly.

“I love you more.”

I laughed. “Not possible.”
