Chapter 5
CHAPTER FIVE
Cole
When your sister-in-law calls and asks for a favor you do it to stay on her good side. You never know when you will need one in return. This is why I’m currently driving to LaGuardia airport. Heather has a delivery that got rescheduled and she is required to be present for it. Leaving me as her only option for picking up Adriana.
It didn’t take much convincing. Adriana is a knockout and getting to know her wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. From what Heather told me, she only has one friend here on the East Coast so it wouldn’t hurt to offer her my friendship.
Heather told Adriana to meet her outside the airport where arrivals get picked up. Pulling my truck over to wait for Adriana. My phone goes off with a new notification causing me to scroll through my email while keeping an eye out for Adriana. It takes less than five minutes when she catches my eyes and causes me to take a deep breath. She is just as gorgeous as I remember.
Natural beauty.
After getting out of my truck I make my way towards her from the side. She doesn’t see me approaching, which lets me take a look to see what is in her hands. Looking over her shoulder I see it’s one of those e-readers. It currently has a hockey book up on the screen. Really? Must be romance since the dude is shirtless with a hockey stick. I roll my eyes and tap her left shoulder.
“What the hell?!” she says as she looks at me.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. Heather got stuck with a delivery to the house and couldn’t make it.” I say smiling down at her.
“Oh. Okay.” she says hesitantly.
“You alright? I mean you are reading a hockey romance book so I know something is wrong.”
This kicks her into gear and she smirks at me.
“Excuse me? What does me reading a hockey romance book have anything to do with me being okay?”
“Well, it’s baseball season. And baseball is the superior sport.” I inform her.
“Sir, it’s still hockey season. It’s playoff time. And both sports have my heart. Thank you very much” she sasses. “Oh and football too. Problem with that?” she questions me.
“No, not at all.” I say, putting my hands up in surrender with a chuckle.”We’ll just have to work on making baseball number one in your heart.”
She laughs and little does she know I will stop at nothing to make it happen again.
“Ready to head out?” Asking Adriana while pointing to my truck.
She follows my hand to see where it’s pointing and nods. Grabbing her suitcase before placing my hand on her back to guide her over to my truck that’s idling since I was just picking her up.
“Do you want to put anything else in the bed of the truck?” I ask as I place her suitcase.
“Sure, my carry on can go back there too. Thank you, Cole.” She says as she hands over her carryon bag.
After the items are secured so they don’t shift around during the drive I walk her to the passenger side to make sure she can get in and close her door before climbing into the driver side.
“How was your flight?” asking Adriana as we pull away from the curb.
“It was great, slept for most of it. I didn’t realize how much I needed it until the flight attendant was waking me up since we were getting ready for landing.” She responded.
“Well, I’m glad you got some sleep then. Heather is sorry she couldn’t be here to get you. I hope I’m an okay replacement.”
“You aren’t so bad. I totally get it, shit happens. I’m just happy to be here honestly. I needed the change. Thank you for picking me up. I don’t think I said that yet.”
She’s rambling and it’s one of the cutest things. Normally women who ramble get on my nerves but Adriana just makes me smile and want to listen to her ramble. She seems to be just as nervous as me. Me being nervous about a woman is not the normal though. My brain is trying to figure out what is happening.
I don’t know what it is about her but I just like being around her.
