Chapter 6

Static

”Shit.” I sighed as I watched Gwen pull out of the parking lot. I tried to catch her to let her know I was going with her to drop the kids off. Lock had given the order this morning for each of us to stick with the women again since Fremont”s guys had run me off the road. He didn”t want anyone going anywhere alone.

Getting on my bike, I took off down the road. At least I knew where she was heading. Unfortunately, by the time I made it to the school she was gone. Pulling out my phone, I brought up a tracking app and activated it. Gwen would probably be pissed if she knew I was tracking her phone, but after all the fucking bullshit we”d been dealing with from Trent, the mafia, and fucking Fremont, she”d just have to deal with it.

My brows drew together as I saw she was already heading back into the city. Gunning the motor, I pulled out onto the road. By the time I caught up with her, I was fucking fuming. Her car was parked outside a police station in northern Tucson. I had no idea what she was doing here, but I was about to find out.

Getting off the bike, I stalked toward the station, only pausing when Gwen came walking out. There was an officer by her side, and I tensed up as I waited to see what was going on. My hands fisted at my side.

Surprise flashed over her face as she caught sight of me. They were close enough for me to overhear the man ask, ”Friend of yours?”

”Yes, he is. Thanks again, David,” Gwen said, giving him a smile.

”I can stick around-”

”Don”t bother,” I growled, glaring at him. ”No one needs you here.”

”Static!” She looked at me in shock. She wasn”t used to seeing me this way. I wasn”t normally like this, but she created this within me. She brought out this angry beast, and I was pissed that I found her with another man.

He glanced back and forth between us, his hand dropping down to the gun at his hip. ”If there”s a problem-”

”There isn”t a problem,” Gwen interrupted, her voice sharp. ”Please, David. He”s a friend of mine.”

”You sure?” he asked.

”She said she”s sure,” I bit out.

”Stop it,” Gwen hissed, moving closer to me. She lowered her voice. ”He”s not the enemy. I came here to speak to him. I”ll explain, I promise.”

She stopped next to me, resting her hand on my chest. The heat of her skin sank through my t-shirt and I wanted her to run that hand all over my body. Just not right now. I was busy trying not to attack this fucking asshole standing there staring at us. I didn”t answer her, just glared at him until he gave us both a curt nod and walked back into the station.

”What are you doing here?” Gwen demanded, glaring right back at me.

”What am I doing?” I barked. When she flinched, I sucked in a calming breath. ”Sorry,” I muttered. The last thing I wanted to do was scare her. She”d been through enough without me bellowing at her. ”Why are you here? Who”s that piece of shit?”

”Static,” she sighed. ”Please don”t do this.”

”Do what?”

”Act like this.”

”Like what?” I asked, starting to get annoyed again.

”Like a possessive, overprotective caveman.”

I turned, shuffling her backward until she was caged between me and my motorcycle. ”You don”t want me to be an overprotective caveman?”

She was nervous, but didn”t look scared as she stared up at me. If I saw even a hint of fear, I would back off. Since I didn”t, I continued.

”How about I go in there, grab the fucking prick, and beat his ass?”

”Static.”

”If you don”t want me to act this way, then don”t put yourself in a position where I need to.”

”What”s wrong with you?” she asked, shaking her head. ”You”re never like this. You-”

”You have no idea how I am.”

She rolled her eyes. ”Yes I do. You”re not normally a Neanderthal.”

”Gwen.”

”David is just a friend.” Her eyes darted to the side.

”Then why aren”t you looking at me, Sugar?”

She sighed. ”Fine. He asked me out. Got my number-”

I tensed, glaring down at her. Grasping her chin, I forced her face up until she was looking at me with those beautiful deep blue eyes. ”Why did you give him your number?”

”I didn”t. A friend did,” she explained. ”I came here to tell him I wasn”t interested, okay?”

”No,” I argued. ”Not fucking okay. He wants you.”

”Static.”

My name came out all breathy. One part exasperated, and one part turned on. There was no doubt about it. I stared down at her, waiting for her to continue. When she didn”t, I let my hand slip to the nape of her neck. I squeezed, then rubbed my thumb over her skin. ”If you don”t want me to walk into that police station and drag that fucker out here, then you should explain, Sugar.”

”You”d get arrested,” she snapped, getting frustrated with me.

Good, because I was fucking frustrated, too. And pissed off beyond all belief that some asshole thought he had the right to ask my girl out. It didn”t matter that she wasn”t actually my girl. She was. She just didn”t know it yet. And I hadn”t admitted it yet.

”Like I give a shit?” I scoffed.

”Don”t be like that.”

”Answer me, Gwen.” My voice was a deep rumble as I searched her eyes. I needed her to tell me that this guy didn”t fucking mean anything. Needed it more than my next breath.

She licked her lips, drawing my attention down. I groaned, watching as she ran her tongue over her bottom lip.

”I don”t want him.”

My cock was thickening, pushing against the front of my jeans. ”You sure?” I crowded closer.

”Yes,” she whispered. There still wasn”t any fear to be found on her beautiful face. Just desire.

”What is it you do want, Gwen?”

Her lips were parted. She wanted me to kiss her. And fuck did I want to, but I needed to hear it from her. She”d been so standoffish ever since that day at the expo center. I didn”t force myself on women. If she wanted me, she was going to have to tell me. And fuck me, if she did, I wasn”t going to be able to resist. I wanted to give this woman everything in the world that she desired. I shouldn”t. I should let her date the cop. My hand squeezed harder on her neck as I thought about giving her over to that douchebag.

”I...I don”t know,” she said, practically moaning the words out.

Goddamn it, I was throbbing, leaking pre-cum in my fucking jeans, about to kiss her out here in the middle of the parking lot. Looking around, I made sure no one was watching us, then I let her go. ”Get on the bike,” I muttered.

She looked dazed, her pupils were blown out, her soft lips parted. I wanted to feel them wrapped around my cock. That wasn”t helping the situation. I was so fucking hard everything ached.

”Your bike?”

”Get on,” I told her again. Getting on, I started it up, then turned to put my helmet on her. It was a little too big, but it was better than nothing.

”What about my car?”

”I swear to fucking Christ, Gwen. Get your sweet ass on this bike, or you”re not going to like what happens.”

She scrambled on behind me, giving up on arguing. It was the first good decision she”d made all day. I wasn”t in the mood to stand here debating with her outside a damn cop shop.

The feel of her legs hugging mine and her arms tight around my waist had me groaning. ”Hold on.”

I could tell she was angry with me, but fuck it. I was pissed at her, too. She”d come here to meet with some random guy, and a cop at that. It didn”t matter that she claimed to be telling him she wasn”t interested. I didn”t like it.

The ride was tense. I wasn”t going to apologize for the way I acted. She was the only woman I”d ever met who drove me to distraction like this. I pulled into the drive and turned off the motor. Holding out my hand, I helped her off the bike.

She pulled my helmet off, her hair falling around her shoulders as she looked over. ”Where are we?”

”My place.” I grabbed the helmet from her and pulled my keys from my pocket. They were on a different ring than my bike key. Opening the door, I motioned for her to go inside.

She folded her arms over her chest, a dangerous look flashing over her face. ”What if I don”t want to go into your house?”

I had to bite back a dark smile. Her anger had grown on the drive and she was no longer off balance and compliant like she”d been in the parking lot. She was acting like she was in charge and I was one of her kids, glaring at me. She was about to learn two things. I wasn”t a kid. And she wasn”t in charge.

Grabbing her by the upper arm, I escorted her into the house. ”Too bad, Baby Girl. We still have more to talk about.”

She stumbled a little as I pulled her inside and closed the door. ”You can”t manhandle me.”

I let her go and set the helmet on the table by the door. ”Do what I say and I won”t.”

”Why should I?” she demanded. ”You”re being completely unreasonable.”

”Can you blame me?” I asked. ”After everything that”s gone on, I find you at a police station talking to a cop?” Her gasp of outrage didn”t stop me. ”Then you tell me he asked you out?”

”I would never do anything to endanger the club,” she argued, hands going straight to her hips, ”so don”t you dare accuse me of anything like that. And it”s not my fault a man asked me out.”

”No?” I asked, moving closer to her, stalking her.

Her chin jutted out, and though I saw a flash of surprise in her eyes, she refused to back up as I closed in. ”No.” She didn”t sound as sure anymore. ”I-I was telling him I wasn”t interested. I don”t know why you”re so worked up-”

”Don”t you?” I asked, grabbing her and yanking her against my body. ”I”ve been careful,” I told her. ”The last thing I wanted was to scare you, but this is the end of that. I”m tired of walking on fucking eggshells around you, Gwen.”

”W-what do you mean?” she stammered.

”You know exactly what the fuck I mean,” I growled. ”I”ve tried giving you time. Fuck, I”ve even tried convincing myself that I don”t want you. It”s a goddamn lie.”

She shook her head, staring up at me with hope and confusion mixing in her gaze. ”You don”t want me,” she insisted.

”The fuck I don”t.” I didn”t give her a chance to argue. My mouth crashed down on hers and I groaned. She tasted just as good as I knew she would. It was a sweet explosion on my tongue and I was desperate for more.

Her hands fisted in the front of my cut as she moaned, opening up for me. I kissed her deeper, stroking her tongue with mine, teasing and tasting every inch of her mouth. Pulling away, I rested my forehead against hers. ”Say you want me.”

”I-”

”No lies, Sugar.”

She nodded, licking her lips, her eyes still glazed with desire. ”I do.”

”And no fucking cops.”

She hesitated, searching my face. ”No cops.”

Grunting in satisfaction, I let my hands slide down her back, over that round ass, and lifted her by it up into my arms. Her long legs wrapped around my waist. ”I”ve waited for this,” I told her, kissing her again. ”For you,” I said into her mouth. Her gasp of pleasure was all the encouragement I needed to walk back to my bedroom.
