Epilogue

Leviathan's death didn't stop the war with demons. They were already on Earth and while I donated some blood to close the doors I'd been forced to open, they needed to be dealt with.

Turned out Asher had been correct when he'd claimed humanity would fight. The news reports were full of stories of people who'd done brave things. The housewife who'd taken a cleaver to the demon that tried to eat her baby. The teen who ran his car into a lacanis , a cross between a lizard and a dog who spat acid. Armies worldwide mobilized quickly and went after the largest pockets of threats first.

Once the cities were secured, the hunt for strays began. Given demons were no longer a myth, Nova and Asher finally got to reveal the existence of reapers and witches to the world. People listened when they explained even a single drone could multiply. The guild openly joined the search for monsters and the recruiting numbers soared. I'd never seen so many folks come together for a common cause. It was kind of cool.

Me? Despite saving the world, I remained low-key. Yes, I helped clean out nests, but my bigger task remained. Ensuring it never happened again.

Despite Leviathan's claim he'd killed all his brothers, I knew I had to go to Inferis and be sure. Even a single prince, under the right conditions, could make someone like me. A messovenata with the sangual blood and the power to open doorways to worlds.

Vance, Cain, and my now very large dog joined me. Clover proved excellent at tracking and while we found a few vampires and demon wizards with royal blood, it seemed Leviathan had done us at least one favor. Moloch's line was gone except for me.

The other thing that disappeared? Any doubt I ever had about myself. It turned out even a regular gal could find the courage to do the right thing. I probably had Fay to thank for that. The merging of our souls had blended us to the point that I couldn't have said which parts of me were the original Sadie. Didn't care. I preferred the new me, even if I was half demon.

I spent some time scouring for any information about my birth mother. Found nothing. Between Leviathan and Moloch, she'd been erased. As for my father… the less I knew of him the better.

Two years after that final battle, boredom set in. Now that I had risked my life and done something epic, I found myself restless. It wasn't because my sex life sucked. I mean, I had daily orgasms. The kind to curl the toes and make me see stars. If you've never been fucked doggy style while a tongue is lapping your clit, then you're missing out. We even did the double hole penetration thing, one in the ass, one in my pussy, which led to some screaming fun.

So don't think when I say restless I meant I tired of my men. On the contrary, I loved them and had never been happier.

I had the respect of my peers. My friendship with Mizuki was rock solid—and I was going to be an honorary aunt to her and Barron's child.

Everything was awesome so what was wrong with me?

"What's wrong?" Vance murmured as I spooned his back. "Can't sleep?"

We'd returned to our cave as I found myself unable to handle the commotion in the castle and city living just wasn't for me anymore.

Cain rumbled from his spot behind me, "Can't you smell the smoke? She's thinking too hard again."

"Just wondering what to do next. The demon threat is under control. The guild has more hunters than it needs. What's left for us to do?"

A question that left them both silent for a second before Vance said, "I guess I could go back to being a detective."

"What about Cain? He's only ever been a reaper. Not exactly something to put on a resume, not to mention, I don't think I could go back to a mundane job after everything we've been through." How did a woman go from extraordinary to ordinary once more? Maybe it made me sound like a twat, but I wanted to do something meaningful with my life. Wanted to travel. Craved adventure and excitement.

"You'll never be mundane," Cane growled against the skin of my shoulder before nipping it.

No, I wouldn't be, and yet I was a superhero trapped in a world that no longer needed me. And before anyone said crime still existed, my powers were wasted on fighting petty criminals. I couldn't help but think I still had great things to accomplish.

It was Cain, of all people, who muttered, "Earth isn't the only place that needs a messovenata and her reapers."

"What are you suggesting?" I half craned to see him.

Only Vance replied, "He's saying that there are a multitude of dimensions out there. Places that might need our brand of skills."

"Leave Earth?" The idea sounded terrifying and exciting.

"Why not? It's not like we couldn't visit anytime we wanted. After all, you can summon portals. And let's be honest, it might be kind of cool to check out new places." Vance made it sound so appealing.

"Dangerous, too," I added trying to at least make a token resistance.

"So dangerous," Cain squeezed me. "Think of the fun we'd have."

Vance turned to face me. "He's not wrong. There is a certain thrill to riding in and saving the day."

"Adventure junkies," I teased, but couldn't stop thinking about it.

A week later, we acted. I said my goodbyes to the very pregnant Mizuki being hovered over by an overprotective Barron. I hugged Devika who made me promise to keep track of any healing magic or herbs. As for Nova, who I'd patched things up with, she handed me an empty journal to chronicle our journey.

Even the grumpy Asher yanked me in for a bear-strength squeeze, whispering, "Kick some ass."

I planned to. Hand in hand with my lovers, with my dog trotting heads high at my side, we stepped into the Continuum and when we exited, found ourselves in an alien place.

Dark blue frothy-looking grass. Trees with dark mauve trunks and turquoise leaves. A pair of pink suns in the sky. And a woman racing across the clearing in obvious terror.

"What's chasing her?" I asked, glancing past her to see if I spotted movement.

Cain nudged me. "Look up."

I did and saw a wondrous thing. A dragon, coasting on massive wings, its talons extended as it readied to swoop and eat the running woman.

I grinned as I held out my hands and said, "Boys, I think we've found our next adventure."

And to this day, they're still travelling, world to world, fighting evil, saving lives, and loving each other. Hope you enjoyed this saga inspired by the cover of the first book.
