Chapter 23

Weeks Later …

D anica and Cameron shared the same chaise longue, snuggled under a huge sun umbrella, on the soft sandy private beach. She stared out across the ocean. “I know we aren’t staying here permanently, poor Benji is likely hating his pet hotel,” she noted, “but I must admit that I never thought Hawaii could be so beautiful.”

“It is beautiful, isn’t it?” he agreed, with a smile. “I hadn’t been here before either. It’s one of the places that I always planned to come for a holiday.”

“And a honeymoon counts, doesn’t it?”

He chuckled. “It absolutely does. I’m so happy to share this experience and this lifetime with you, Mrs. Danica Wingford.” He gave her a kiss that warmed places deep within her. “How are you doing?”

“I’m doing pretty well,” she replied with a genuine smile, knowing exactly what he referred to. “Time has helped.”

He nodded in understanding. “It absolutely does help,” he whispered. He kissed her on the temple.

Danica sighed and shared, “A lot of things happened that I still need to process. Maybe I’ll never really get all the answers I want, but the answers that I do have don’t make a whole lot of sense anyway, so I’m not sure what the point would be of looking for more.”

“I totally agree. I’m still dealing with it all too.”

She chuckled. “Now you know what it means to live in my world.”

“What’s this about Stefan reaching out to you?” Cameron asked her.

“Yeah, and he had Dr. Maddy contact me.”

“Right. So, was she the one who was going through Harriet’s house, looking for energy?” Cameron asked.

“Yes, and, while I doubt that anyone will admit it, I suspect she’s also the one who set the house on fire. Stefan said that she’s incredibly talented and that she’s a magical energy worker. Anyway, he’s put us in contact and suggested that I work with her. She is a healer of global renown apparently, and, according to her, I have a lot of talent.”

Cameron stared at her in surprise. “Wow, okay, so I guess the woo-woo stuff will be part and parcel of our future.”

She smiled. “I don’t know about how much woo-woo there is, but healing could be,” she acknowledged, “and that’s what you do anyway.”

He nodded. “It sure is.”

“I do feel—I don’t want to say stronger, more powerful, more intuitive—yet all of the above. It’s as if I can almost instinctively know what’s going on with somebody right now. And that’s a good thing, right?”

“Definitely, yes. And, speaking of good things, I got a notice from the hospital that I am officially let out of my contract, so we never have to go back there again.”

She laughed. “All in all, I’ve got to say that life is looking pretty damn good.”

He wrapped an arm around her and tilted her chin up, so he could look into her eyes. “Honestly, our future is looking damn wonderful, if you ask me.”

And, with that, he lowered his head and kissed her.
