89. Luke

Chapter 89

Luke

Wheeling two suitcases each,we walk down the hall to my condo on the fourth floor, and I try to remember what state I left my place in. It’s usually pretty clean, but my bedroom and closet… not so much.

The building itself is pretty cool. It used to be a school, way back when, but they tore out the inside and remodeled the building into large industrial-style condos.

“You good?” I ask Natalie, hating that she’s hauling suitcases too. But when I suggested she wait in the car while I ran up the first set, she refused, insisting that it would be easier and quicker this way.

But when I look over my shoulder, I can see she’s falling behind.

And I can see her tilting her head back to look at the black metal ceiling as she walks.

“Hey, Green Eyes.” I try for her attention again.

Natalie drops her chin so she’s back to looking forward. “Huh?”

I smile. “We’re almost there.”

“Don’t worry about me.” As she says it, her toe catches on the floor, and she stumbles.

I let go of my luggage handles, but she catches herself with a laugh before I get to her.

“Christ, Woman,” I grumble, taking the suitcases from her hands.

“What?”

I shake my head, putting the pairs of luggage back to back and pushing all four at once. “If you fall one more time, I’m going to have permanent heart damage.”

She snorts. “If I fall one more time, I’m just going to stay there.”

“Well, let’s get you inside so you can fall into bed. You can unpack tomorrow.”

Natalie makes a noise of agreement as I reach the door.

I unlock it and shove the luggage through, letting them roll a few feet on the concrete floor, then I hold the door open. And Natalie steps into my home.
