25. Jaxcen
Chapter twenty-five
Jaxcen
T here’s a monster in the room, and it’s not Dr Xavier. I’m sad that I’m so hazy. I want to see Devon like this. I want to see him in his devil form, maiming. Destroying. Killing.
Everything feels like it’s in slow motion. I know it’s not really. It’s just the way my brain is processing things with last night’s drugs in my system, and I know it won’t be long until I’m completely disoriented once the drug laced juice that made it to my stomach kicks in.
I never expected him to come for me. Not here. I know he said he’d protect me, but I betrayed him and stole the Corvette. I left when he asked me not to. He could have left me to my own devices and let me suffer.
Instead, he came for me.
There’s a red river of blood pouring from Dr Xavier’s nose, and the smell of orange juice is everywhere. Not just on me, but on the doctor too.
When I blink, my lids feel heavier to reopen, and it takes more energy than it should to make them comply.
Don’t pass out, Jaxcen.
Don’t take your eyes off your monster.
Watch the beast in action.
Watch him make Dr Xavier pay.
There’s more yelling, and I focus on the monstrous contortion of Devon’s face as he punches the doctor again, smashing his face up with his fist.
He does it over. And over. And over.
I feel a smile. I don’t know if my face is actually working, but on the inside, I’m beaming with satisfaction.
In Devon’s hand, something glints, and I see it for a brief moment as he lifts it, the sharp edge of a steak knife, coming into view.
Again when he moves, it’s in slow motion, but he slams it into the doctor’s thigh.
Movement across the other side of the table draws my attention, and I lazily take in the looming man, all dressed in black, his appearance sparking a memory.
Church.
St Catherine’s.
He was there the night Devon kidnapped me. He came in afterwards with a group of men in suits, and that really cool woman.
What was his name?
Reed? Rohan? Riggs?
Maybe Riggs.
“Jax.” Devon’s voice comes from next to me, and I slowly turn my heavy head to find his dark concerned eyes close.
So close.
“Devil,” I whisper, trying to grin.
“Little mouse, did he touch you inappropriately?”
I think I frown as I process his words, their meaning taking a little longer than they should to make sense, but when they do, I try to shake my head.
“Not yet,” I slur. “Not since last time.”
Devon growls.
“The other one did,” I slur. “Man. Nurse.” I sway on the chair, and Devon’s big strong hands grip my arms to keep me in place.
“The male nurse touched you?”
“Said it was to help me peeee.” I drag the word out longer than I should. “That’s yoursss to touch. Nottt his,” I slur, and Devon releases me, lurching up with a roar.
I feel like I’m falling, but another set of strong hands grip me from behind, and I lull my head back to see Finn.
“You’ re upside downnn again.” I think I giggle, I can’t be sure.
“I got you.” He shoots me a wink, and for some reason it makes me want to cry.
Not that these stupid drugs will let me.
No. They keep me numb. Pliable.
If I could have a big brother, I want it to be Finn.
“Jax.” Devon’s hands cup my face, redirecting my head back down. “Was this the man that took your virginity?”
“Yesss,” I admit, kind of thankful for the drugs numbing my emotions right now since I’m pretty sure there are a number of men behind me, and I would normally be embarrassed to admit that shame.
“Did you consent?” he asks through gritted teeth, and I try to shake my head, but it makes me dizzy.
“Couldn’t speak. Couldn’t move. Couldn’t do anything,” I admit.
“He drugged you back then?”
“Yesss.”
That’s all Devon needs before he stands, turns with his gun raised, and pulls the trigger.
The moment Dr Xavier topples sideways, his stunned expression forever on his face, it’s like my body finally relaxes. Finally knows it’s no longer in danger, and I start to slide off the chair as everything fades.
The last thing I notice is strong arms scooping me up, and the devil’s voice whispering in my ear.
“It’s okay, little mouse. I’ve got you.”
