32. Mac

CHAPTER 32

MAC

On Tuesday morning, Mac felt like he was floating on air. He smiled at everyone. Danced to a beat of his own drum. So when his momma grabbed his arm and spun him around, he grinned at her. "What?"

"Don't you what me. You've got ants in your pants."

Mac pouted and rolled his eyes.

"And don't you roll your eyes at me. You're not too old for me to tan your heinie, mister."

She stared long enough and hard enough that Mac shivered. Spankings were only fun in the bedroom. He wondered if Lee was kinky… or Drew.

"I'm not sure I want to know where your mind just went."

Mac blinked and gazed at his momma wearing a delighted smirk. Oh no. No, no, no. He backpedaled, but she followed, herding him past the kitchen and into the office. When the back of his legs hit the office chair, he sank onto it, knowing he'd been beaten. "Fine."

She laughed. "Spill."

He couldn't resist the jab. "Tea, me? No. Coffee, please." He picked up the mug sitting on the desk, one that said "Thank you for not swallowing me" with two sperm labeled Mac and Katy, and took a sip of the room-temperature brew.

Momma grimaced as she playfully batted his arm before leaning against the edge of the desk, effectively trapping him in the corner. "You've messed up more orders today than you ever have."

Mac gasped. "I did not."

"Okay, it was two, and mostly you just gave them to the wrong customers. Still, I know you pride yourself on getting everything right, so where's your head at today? Did something happen with Drew… or, dare I ask, Lee?"

He rocked back in the office chair and stared into the murky remains in the mug a moment before putting it aside. "Lee wants to try."

"He's not insisting on waiting anymore? That's great. Your father and I approve."

"You do?" Mac stared at his momma, taking in her slow smile and shining eyes.

"Of course. Drew's already like a son to us. Hell, he calls me Momma. As for your safety… It's kind of funny that his name is Lee Matters, because he matters to you, to both of you. Plus, your father and I both like Lee. He comes from good family." She folded her hands and bounced them against her legs, gazing at him dead-on. "It'll just be the three of you, right? Not planning on starting a reverse harem?"

"Momma! Oh my God." Mac covered his face. Seriously? What had she been reading lately?

"Well, kiddo, I gotta know these things." She laughed then, cracking up, and Mac realized she'd been teasing him. He would absolutely blame Katy for putting crazy thoughts in Momma's head.

Once she calmed herself, she asked, "So what's the plan? Are you seeing them tonight?"

Mac nodded. Their conversation was surreal. He never thought he'd be discussing his love life with his mother. "We're going to meet up around two at Lee's place."

"Good. You're prepared? Got condoms? Because I think I have?—"

"I'm good, thanks. Sheesh. " Mac stood and hugged his momma. "Love you. Thank you for accepting me as I am and for understanding this crazy situation."

"I love you, too, Mackenzie Connor, and I love Drew, you know that. I'm sure I'll love Lee just as much."

"Thank you," Mac repeated, giving her another squeeze. "Okay, I better get back out there."

When Mac returned to the dining area, he saw Katy in the foyer with Carey. He had a hand on her lower back as he escorted her inside. "Officer Daniels, good to see you again."

"Hey, Mac. Tough loss Sunday. How's Lee handling it?"

"Rough." Mac frowned but then smiled slyly. "Drew and I had to cheer him up."

"Drew and… What?" Katy spluttered. "What the hell? Mac! When?"

Mac laughed at his sister's reaction. "Last night, but we're taking it slow."

Katy growled as she playfully beat him. She fell onto the closest counter stool and propped her chin on her hands. "Ugh. I want all the deets."

In reply, Mac smiled as he flipped over three mugs and filled them with coffee. "So you know, after they won last week, Drew and I met Lee at the brewery. Well…"
