Chapter Twenty-Two

Mosby

My eyes popped open, and my head was fucking pounding. The stark white room wasn't one I remembered, and the woman standing to my left with a needle in her hand didn't seem at all friendly.

"Where am I?"

The woman shifted her eyes to me. "You're in East LA Doctor's Hospital. You were in a plane crash, but you walked away with a mild concussion."

I glanced down at my body to see my left arm was in a brace. "How about that? I'm a painter."

The nurse chuckled. "It's a sprain. You'll be fine. Do you paint with your left hand?"

"No. My right. I do like having the use of both hands though. What the hell happened?"

"Mr. Fletcher was misdirected to a runway that was occupied. He ditched the approach and clipped a jet landing at the same time."

"Please tell me he's okay. Tell me nothing happened to him."

The nurse stared at me for a moment. "He's in intensive care."

"Has anyone called his family?"

"His wife and daughter are here. His son's on the way. How about you? Can we call anyone for you? The first responders didn't find a phone to contact anyone for you. You're Mosby Leslie, right? You're the missing artist."

That wasn't what I wanted to discuss. Where was my Bunny?

"Mr. Leslie? We need to ask you a few questions. "

I opened my eyes, not seeing Tyler but a woman I didn't know. I reminded me of my fall in front of Shear Bliss, and I smiled. "Ask away, but I have one for you first. Where is Tyler Rockwell?"

"I'm right here, Mosby." I turned toward his voice to see him sitting in the corner of the hospital room.

I exhaled. "How'd you get here?"

"Mom and I drove together. The sheriff gave me permission to leave Foggy Basin to come check on you. You don't have the best luck, do you?" That beautiful smile was all I needed to see.

"The two of you patched up your differences?"

"We're getting there. Beau has broken ribs and he had a collapsed lung, but they got that fixed. They're moving him from intensive care tonight. What the hell happened?" Tyler came to sit on the side of the bed and kissed me, which was everything I needed.

"Beau saved both of your lives by avoiding a collision, or so I was told. I don't remember any of it. Is he okay?"

Tyler smiled. "He's going to be okay because my mother and his daughter won't hear of it any other way. How's your head? This remind you of anything?"

Tyler was sitting on my bed with my hand in his. I wanted to feel it every day. "It reminds me of when I first saw you through the window of Shear Bliss, and I bit the dust. Honestly, that was the best day of my life."

He laughed. "Hold that thought." He went to the door of my room and when he returned, my worst nightmare was with him.

"Mosby. Did you seriously think you could get away from me?" There she was in all her beautiful glory, Natalie Wu, the worst and best agent in Los Angeles.

"I hoped I could." I stared at Tyler. "How did she end up here?"

My sweet Bunny giggled, which was everything I needed to hear. "I think she's magical, but there was a story on the local news about you and Beau crashing at LAX because of a misdirection from the air traffic controller. All I care about is that you're alive, and I'm here to see that you get out of this place." He smirked as he lifted his hand and motioned around the room.

"Is Beau staying in Foggy Basin or is he going back home? What about his daughter?"

Tyler smiled. "Mom wants to get him back to Cheyenne so she can dote on him. I met Renee. She's not ready to call me her brother, but that's okay. I'll worry about that family later. It's my family with you I'm focused on right now. And on that note, I'm leaving you with Natalie. Good luck! "

Yeah, I'd need that for sure.

I stood in my studio at the Montecito house with Natalie next to me. "This is fantastic, Mosby." I stared out my studio windows and watched Tyler float in the pool while music played over the outdoor speakers. It was late May, and we needed to return to Foggy Basin the next day—by commercial aircraft. I'd never fly in a small plane again.

"Good. Give it to them without me present. And give them the check back, Natalie. I know you hate the idea of giving away money, but this is a special situation. I've kept them waiting for more than a year."

She rolled her eyes, which was typical for her. "You've lost your focus, Mosby. I'm afraid I must let you go as a client. I've enjoyed representing you, but there comes a time when we all have to move on. You'll be returning to that crappy little town, right?"

I stared at her for a moment before I smirked. "Yep. I'll be going home. Foggy Basin is where I belong. I'll be enjoying the best of what life has to offer because my happiness is tied up in Shear Bliss. "

I laughed at the comment, but it was far too true. I wanted to live the rest of my life in Shear Bliss.
