SEER
I grab Phoebe's arm and pull her out into the hallway before letting it go.
"We'll be right back, Cher. Don't you move." Kai closes the door to my bedroom and glares at our partner.
"What is wrong with you?" He growls, and I place my hand on his chest.
"Stop, not here." I point down the hall to Phoebe's room, which is soundproof for our extracurricular activities.
"What's wrong with me? You bring another woman into our home, and I'm the fucking problem?" Phoebe stomps away, and I sigh.
"Way to go," I mumble at Kai as I hurry to catch up to her before she slams the door and locks us out.
"Not so fast," I catch it when she attempts just that.
"No, by all means. Go finish whatever that was. No need to have a family meeting. I get it. You're both ready to move on. WELL, I'M NOT!" She starts to swing a fist at my face, but Kai catches it.
"No one is moving on. All we're doing is living our lives!" Phoebe's eyes fill with tears.
"WITHOUT THEM!" She screams in his face.
"Sam wouldn't want this." That seems to calm them both down enough to at least listen to me.
I push us all into the room and close the door quietly. I brace my back against it while Phoebe climbs on her bed to clutch a pillow to her chest, and Kai paces between us.
"None of us were prepared for life without Sam, but here we are. They're gone, and no matter how much time passes, that ain't gonna change, Baby." I stare at Phoebe as I speak because she's the only one who is not willing to move on.
"You are not betraying them by living. You gotta stop this." She breaks down in tears and nods.
"I'm trying," I give her a small smile.
"No, Baby. You aren't. You saw another woman in this house and thought the worst of us. We would never betray you like that. You're holding us to a standard you've set for yourself, and that's not fair to any of us. Now, we started this family out of mutual love and respect. It's outta that neither of us has played with others since Sam died. But Baby, that doesn't mean we aren't human. Leah is special to me." I stop there because I can't begin to describe my feelings for that woman, especially after the boom she dropped during that phone call.
"She's the sex therapist student, right?" Phoebe sniffles as she whips her face.
"Yeah," I run my hands through my hair in disbelief.
"And a virgin, apparently." Kai snorts out a laugh, probably thinking the same thing I am.
"What?" Phoebe's confusion is the understatement of the century.
"Exactly. I can't even begin to answer that." I sigh, walking over to her bed and throwing myself on it backward.
"Isn't having experience sort of a prerequisite?" She runs her fingers through my hair soothingly, and I groan.
"One would assume, but degrees are about book knowledge," Kai said, sitting on the bed and kissing Phoebe's cheek.
We just sit with the new knowledge for a moment in quiet, and I smile because this is the first time we've been like this in months.
"I missed this," I close my eyes as Phoebe's fingers play along my scalp, and I listen to the sweet sound of her and Kai sharing a kiss.
"I'm sorry." Phoebe's voice says when they break apart.
"No need to be. Let's work on being better now." I pull away from them and stand.
"Let me go talk to our house guest." Kai has Phoebe's cheek cupped in his palm, bringing her in for another kiss, but she stops him at my words.
"Did her place really burn down?" I'm surprised at the level of worry she has for the woman she was ready to beat on a few minutes ago.
"Yeah, Baby. It did. She lost everything. Only has the nightgown on her skin." She frowns.
"Any family she can stay with?" I shake my head.
"We're the only family she has—us and the club." She looks at Kai, and I'm not sure what she sees, but she nods.
"She'll stay here then." I smile, and he kisses her.
"Alright, Cher." I close the door as they're kissing starts to become more.
When I turn in the direction of my room, I catch Leah's hair just clearing the doorframe.
The little Minx was trying to eavesdrop.
I stop in the open doorway and lean my shoulder into the jam, crossing my arms. Leah is trying and failing to control her breathing while looking like she's been sitting on the bed waiting for this showtime.
"Hear anything interesting?" I lift an eyebrow in challenge.
Let's see how honest she'll be with a simple question, but I develop into serious shit like her actually being a virgin.
"Not a fucking thing!" She sighs out and covers her face to hide her blush.
I chuckle and walk into the room, closing the door to seal us in.
The air charges with tension when she peeks over her fingers at me demurely, and I can't help the thought that runs through my mind. I want to ruin her and rob her of that innocence she's staring at me with.
I want to fulfill her every desire and fantasy, but first, I need to understand why she's been saving it for so long.
"Why are you still a virgin?"
