Chapter 29

Chapter

Twenty-Nine

SEER

B laze has Charlotte handcuffed to a chair in my office when I get downstairs. She's still unconscious and sporting a black eye where Phoebe decked her.

"What should we do with her, Prez?" Mayhem asks from his stance up against the wall.

As the club's SAA, he's in charge of security and all the enforcers. Jester is standing next to him with his arms crossed. Our jovial pilot looks off with a scowl on his face.

"I don't like treating women like this, but this bitch had a knife to Leah's neck. She could have," I curse, not wanting to finish the statement.

She could have killed her.

"Prez, I could give a shit about her being a woman right now. I don't want her in the clubhouse, but we can't get her to the police until the storm calms down." Mayhem is flipping a knife absently as he speaks, not taking his eyes off Charlotte.

"Lock her in the hall closet. Make sure she can't break free and post a prospect at the door. They aren't to talk to her. When she wakes up, make sure someone comes and gets me." I turn to Cowboy and point at the hallway.

"How the fuck did she get in here?" I growled, wanting to pull my hair out.

"I'll have GLitch check the cameras. I'm unsure how much footage we have of the power outages." I nod and slump against the hallway wall.

"Fabien," I turn to see Kai rushing towards us.

"She's awake and asking for you." I push off the wall and run for the stairwell.

I pass Skull on the way up.

"Give the girls a few before you barge in." He slaps my arm and continues down.

I slow my pace and stop at the doorway icthing to go inside. Kai rubs my shoulders and kisses my neck.

"They're okay." I nod.

Hearing the words isn't the same as seeing the truth.

Phones start beeping throughout the clubhouse again, and Kai sighs when he silences his.

"The last of the storm bands have cleared the area." I grab the doorknob and turn it slowly.

"Good, that's good." I peek my head inside and see Phoebe cradling Leah on her chest.

They're talking softly to each other, and then they kiss.

"Someone's feeling better." I elbow Kai behind me for interrupting them.

"In or out, guys. We aren't giving the entire club a show." Phoebe calls out, making me smile for the first time tonight.

"In, definitely in." Kai pushes me and closes the door.

"You should be relaxing." I walk to the edge of the bed and sit carefully.

"I was working on that, thanks." Phoebe rolls her eyes at me as I reach up and hover my fingers over the stitches Skull put in her forehead.

Sue me for being worried. Phoebe doesn't have a monopoly on that emotion.

"That's going to leave a scar," I mutter in disappointment.

She shouldn't have to carry this with her for the rest of her life.

"It'll give me character." She shrugs and then groans.

"My ears are still buzzing," She closes her eyes and shifts her head against Phoebe's chest.

"Skull said she needs to rest and can't be left alone. We have to wake her every few hours." Phoebe strokes her hair as she speaks.

"I'll take the first watch. You both rest." Kai pulls a chair closer to the bed.

"We should make her more comfortable, don't you think?" I point at the shirt Leah is wearing, which is mine and covered in her blood.

"Fuck, yes. Here, help me." Phoebe sits up, bracing Leah's weight, and we both carefully remove the t-shirt.

I toss it on the floor, and that's when I notice she's not wearing pants. Or underwear of any kind. Leaving her naked.

"Men," Phoebe scoffs, drawing my attention away from Leah's hard nipples.

"I'll get a warm washcloth; you get her a clean shirt," Kai says with laughter in his voice.

"Um, right." I clear my throat and do as I'm told.

I take longer than normal to pick out just the right shirt. It needs to be long enough, soft enough, worthy to be on her precious body. I snag an old band shirt and smile.

"I can not believe you still have that only thing." Kai laughs as I hold it up proudly.

"Tool?" Leah's voice is a comfort to my ears.

She hasn't spoken much since waking, and I smile at her.

I nod while Kai cleans her face and chest with the washcloth. He grins, and I know he's remembering the day just like I am.

"It was our first date. I bought that shirt from a street merchant outside the venue for ten dollars. Then, cause we were broke teenagers, we snuck into the parking lot to listen." Kai's voice is full of happiness from the memory.

"Sam spilled that bleach on it, and I burnt it with a joint." Phoebe points at the imperfection that makes the shirt perfect in my eyes.

"Lift your arms." I climb on the bed and roll the fabric in my hands to pull it over her hair.

"Careful of her stitches," Kai says, hovering.

"I got it," I try to hide my humor at his mother-hen routine.

"I need to add my touch." Leah fingers the edges of the worn shirt in thought.

"Tomorrow." I kiss her nose and lie down next to her.

"Rest now. We have plenty of time." I curl around Leah, who turns to snuggle Phoebe.

"Sleep, I'll wake you all soon," Kai says as he takes his seat again.

I fall asleep with my family and the fond memories we've all shared. I dream of all the new ones to come.
