Chapter 37
Isabella parked her car and looked up at the office building in front of her. She'd decided to pay Spencer a visit at work. Isabella thought it might be better to talk to him at his office in hopes of controlling her temper.
After discovering the comments on the website, Isabella thought her anger would dissipate, but it had seemed to grow the closer she got to Charlotte. She'd almost gone to his house when they'd gotten in from Denver last night, but had thought better of it.
"Deep breaths," she murmured as she got out of the car. She marched up to the building and every step seemed to fuel her fury.
Isabella walked into the reception area and smiled. "Is he in his office?"
The woman behind the desk nodded as her eyes widened. Isabella didn't give her time to say anything. She walked down the hall and opened Spencer's door.
"What the fuck, Spencer?" she said angrily after closing the door. "What were you thinking!"
Spencer jumped up and started to come around from behind his desk. He held up his hands and stopped. "I was angry!"
"I get that, but why did you have to post that comment on the website?"
"What makes you think it was me?"
"Really?" Isabella said, putting her hands on her hips and staring at him. "You're going to try and deny it?"
Spencer sighed and sat back down. "Why couldn't you be like the other wives? I'm supposed to make the money and you run the house. I'm the protector."
"So that's what this is about? You wanted me to be dependent on you? I'm supposed to go to the country club and to charity events? You wanted me to be a trophy wife! When are you going to get it? I don't need protecting!" Isabella said, raising her voice. "I've got myself!" She pointed to her chest. "I'm going to make my own happiness with our sons. If you want to be part of that, fine. If you're going to be an ass and a dickhead, then they won't be with you. Don't tell me I can't do that because, by damn, I can and will!"
Spencer sat in his chair and sighed.
"Spencer, you don't have to be jealous."
"I'm not jealous!" he fired back.
"Yes, you are. You're jealous of Kelsey's relationship with the boys. Wyatt and Gus can like you, they can like me, they can like Kelsey, and they can like whomever you choose to be your girlfriend someday. It's not a competition. They love your parents. They love my mom and dad."
"Oh…" Spencer said quietly. "Your dad was the best."
Isabella closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Yes, he was, but stay on task, Spencer."
"So now you're going to talk to me like I'm one of the boys," he said.
Isabella smirked.
"Okay, I probably deserved that," he said. "I get it. Our boys can love everybody. It's not a contest."
"Exactly," Isabella said with a sigh. "We want to co-parent and to do that we need to get along."
"You're right. The boys come first," Spencer said.
Isabella sat down in the chair across from his desk. "The boys do come first, but they're not everything."
Spencer raised his eyebrows.
"There has to be more and I've found that with Kelsey. We will always be there for our kids, but they'll be on their own someday."
Spencer nodded. "It's hard to be divorced around here, Isabella. You know that, but add to it being gay. It won't be easy for you."
"I know." Isabella winced. "But I won't be alone."
"Let me guess? Kelsey's moving here," he said evenly. Then he chuckled and looked at the ceiling. "Well, of course she is."
"You might actually like her," Isabella said.
Spencer nodded. "Maybe."
They stared at each other then both smiled. "I'm an old Southern boy," Spencer said with an exaggerated accent. "And you're a progressive badass. What a combination. No wonder we didn't make it."
"But we have two amazing kids," Isabella said.
"That we do," he agreed. "I'm sorry about the comments. I shouldn't have messed with your business."
"No, you shouldn't have. I came here in hopes that I wouldn't yell at you, but that didn't work," Isabella said with a shrug.
Spencer laughed. "You always liven things up around here. That hasn't changed."
"Don't forget to pick the boys up from school on Thursday," Isabella said, getting up and walking to the door. "I leave for St. Thomas that day."
"It's on my schedule," Spencer said, walking around his desk. "Safe travels."
"Hmph," Isabella muttered. "It almost sounded like you meant that."
Spencer smiled. "I do."
"See there? It's not so hard to get along." Isabella grinned and walked out the door.
"It won't be long now," Isabella said, looking out the window as the plane descended.
Kelsey reached for her hand and held it in her lap. "I had a long talk with Dana and Emma after you and the boys went home. I wanted to be sure they were okay with my move."
Isabella furrowed her brow. "I thought they were excited about it."
"They are, but I'm not sure they realized we were leaving their childhood home," Kelsey said.
"Oh, babe. I didn't think of that. Are they okay?" Isabella said.
Kelsey nodded. "I'll only be bringing my clothes and a few other things to Charlotte."
"Wait a minute," Isabella said, looking into Kelsey's eyes. "You're moving in with us, but this has to be your home, too. We have to fix this."
"Can we fix one thing at a time, please?" Kelsey smiled. "Let's focus on saving this marketing campaign for the next few days. We can talk about the move later."
"You moving in with us is more important than anything on this trip," Isabella said.
"I agree, but I'm moving no matter what. We have time to talk about that, but we only have a few days to make people fall in love with us as a couple."
"Little do our followers know we've been a couple the entire time." Isabella grinned.
"I'll keep my house for a while because Dana doesn't have a place for her things since she'll be traveling. We'll figure it all out."
"That's a good idea." Isabella stared at Kelsey and nodded.
Kelsey could see the wheels turning in her head. "What are you thinking, babe?"
"Kels, we're beginning a life together and that means we share everything. We need to look at our finances and make our home. As I said, you're moving here to be with us, but we don't have to stay in that house or sell yours. We need to look at all of it."
Kelsey shook her head in amazement and gazed into Isabella's beautiful blue eyes. She would never get tired of that view. "We will, babe. But right now, I'm excited to relive how we started. Our first meeting at the luggage carousel, our first dinner together, but mostly I'm looking forward to Honeymoon Beach."
"Not our dance at Peaches?"
Kelsey shook her head. "I can stare at you all I want while we're on the beach. I don't have to worry about you catching me." She chuckled. "And I can kiss you and hold you under those leaning palm trees. Mmhmm, I can't wait."
Isabella giggled. "You're making me very hot right now," she whispered. "We may have to sneak to the restroom."
Kelsey chuckled. "We're about to land."
"Be ready when we get to our room," Isabella said, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Oh, I will be." Kelsey winked. "But first, are you ready to tell everyone how we met?"
Isabella nodded. "I love you, baby."
"I love you," Kelsey whispered. "We can do this."
As soon as they got off the plane they went to baggage claim and shot a video of how they met. Next, they got on the shuttle and rode to the resort.
"Let's go by Carmen's office and explain our plan. We need to record on the beach before it gets dark," Kelsey suggested.
"I'm right behind you," Carmen said.
They turned around and Carmen smiled at them.
"We talked to a political strategist and have come up with a good plan," Isabella said.
Carmen raised her eyebrows.
Kelsey smiled at Isabella and shook her head. "Emma just graduated with a degree in political science and she specialized in public relations," Kelsey said to Carmen. "She gave us some good points to bring up and explained the best ways to present them."
"I was very impressed with Emma on the spring break trip. I don't doubt her abilities or the two of you. Are you beginning your posts today?"
"Yes, we're starting off by the beach outside our bungalow. We want it to be authentic and that's where we've spent a lot of time," Isabella explained.
"Then go," Carmen said. "We can catch up later."
"Wait," Kelsey said. "Give us a few minutes to set up, then come to the beach and do the post with us."
"You don't have to be on camera," Isabella added. "You can help us edit it if we need to."
"You've always done these on your own. I don't want to get in the way," Carmen said.
Kelsey raised her eyebrows. "You're just as nervous about this as we are. It is your resort."
"We did a quick post from the airport when we left Charlotte," Isabella said. "We promised another when we got here."
"I saw the first one and there have already been several positive comments," Carmen said. "Go do your thing, I'll check in with you later."
Kelsey and Isabella grabbed their bags and wheeled them out of the resort past the swimming pool just like they'd always done. Once inside their bungalow, Isabella went to the bathroom and ran her fingers through her hair.
"You look beautiful," Kelsey said, putting her arms around her from behind. She kissed her neck then met her gaze in the mirror. "I don't think anyone is going to be surprised by our news."
"What do you mean?"
"Our followers have been with us the whole time. We've had a comment or two that we'd make a cute couple, remember?"
"Hmm, maybe you're right. They've had a front seat to our little romance," Isabella said, turning in Kelsey's arms.
"Little? We've been meeting in the Virgin Islands for six months. I wouldn't call that little." Kelsey smiled and kissed Isabella softly.
"Mmm," Isabella moaned and pulled Kelsey closer.
The kiss may have started softly, but Kelsey's lips were hungry for Isabella's once they touched. Their breaths and quiet moans were the only sounds echoing in the bathroom as their tongues did a dance of love.
When they finally pulled apart Kelsey gulped a breath. "Our romance is big, just like our love."
Isabella put her hand on Kelsey's cheek. "Let's shoot this video and celebrate our big love the rest of the night."
"You always have the best ideas." Kelsey kissed Isabella again then playfully tapped her on the ass.
Isabella laughed. She walked out of the bathroom and opened the back door onto the deck. "Aww, our happy place," she said, holding out her arms.
Kelsey grabbed her hand as she walked by and led them to their favorite table and chairs on the beach. There were a few people sprinkled here and there down the beach, but no one nearby.
"Are you ready?" Isabella asked as she sat in a chair next to Kelsey.
"Action," Kelsey said in her best director's voice.
