Autumn

B y now, you should be checking over the ditches, but you already know this. Clear away all that debris. The seedlings we planted last year are thriving. Keep up with the drainage and that area will do well. It's nicely shaded, yet has plenty of light.

I've not been out in a while, and I miss the fresh air. I know you always offer to take me, but I don't like it. Not anymore. I hate that you have to help me out of bed. The way you carry me.

I'm your dad. It should be my job, carrying you out in the world, watching you grow.

I need you to be happy, son. Find your way.

I know it's not easy, being who you are, but the world is a different place now. Perhaps more different than I will ever understand.

I understand love, though, son. I know you do too.

Remember that in those moments when you wobble, when nothing else seems to make sense, there's always light in those moments. It may not feel like it, but I promise you, it's there.

I've got your back. Always.

Dad .

PS: I bet the cats have had kittens again. Remember, don't name them. Makes it easier that way.
