25. Kellen
Chapter 25
Kellen
I lead the way up the mountain, leaving my pack brothers behind to eat my dust.
“Kellen!”
That’s Alastor, and he can eat my dust especially, just after he eats my shit.
I only agreed to go on this camping trip so that my Omegas could see that I was capable of change, but maybe I should slow down.
We are meant to be working as a team.
But no, I refuse.
I will be the one to lead.
I’m the strongest after all…
“Kellen, for fuck’s sake!”
I pick up the pace, gripping the straps of my backpack. I will be the first to our camping site.
Footsteps hurry behind me, and then he grabs my shoulder, spinning me around.
My teeth are bared in preparation for an attack.
Alastor’s eyes flash with rage, nostrils flaring as he shows me his own teeth, but mine are sharper.
My cock is also bigger too, not that anyone is asking…
“Kellen, slow down. We’re meant to get there together.”
My fists clench at my sides as I stare him out in challenge.
Theo lags behind, our disgraced former pack lead, and fuck him, too.
When he catches up, he sighs, dropping his backpack at his feet so he can sip from his canteen.
“This dick-measuring contest over yet? I just want to get to our camp.”
Alastor and I glare at him, and he raises his brows, taking another sip of his water.
That should be my water…
I shake my head. Okay, maybe I can get a little possessive at times, but I’ll be damned if I’m not the best.
Alastor thinks he can just nominate himself pack lead, but he’s mistaken.
He's not the boss of me.
I’m my own boss.
Alastor folds his arms, smirking. “I finally see what this is about. You’re angry at me, Kellen.”
“What gave it away?” Theo remarks, sipping more of his water, and I will piss in his canteen.
Alastor drops his backpack and leans against a tree. “That’s why you got the dog. You wanted to show me up.”
I chuckle, showing the whites of my eyes as I drop my own backpack, as if in preparation for a fight.
“Admit it. She’s cuter than Fried Egg!”
“Eggnog,” Alastor corrects. “Are you insulting her name choices now? You do know that it was Ella that called him Eggnog, right, Kellen?”
Shit. I did not, and maybe I should shut my mouth.
“Look, I’m not denying that Sweetpea isn’t adorable, but this needs to stop. Why can’t Ella love them both equally.”
Is that supposed to insinuate something? I’m not the brightest, but even I know he is using the kitten and pup as a metaphor.
Now I close my eyes, taking several deep breaths.
He's right. I suppose Ella can love them both.
Even if dogs are better than cats…
Cats are assholes, like Alastor. But they’re assholes I can respect, I guess.
“Scrambled Egg is kinda cute too, I suppose.”
“ Eggnog , and thank you, Kellen.” Alastor steps forward, patting my shoulder. “You’ll convert soon enough, finally learning that cats are superior to dogs after all.”
I scoff. “Dogs save people’s lives!”
Alastor smirks, taking out his phone, and now he shows me a video of a black cat saving a little boy from a dog attack.
Point taken.
How did he even get signal up here?
I’ll never understand his ways.
“So, can we proceed?” Theo gripes.
Alastor and I turn his way, and I sneer, pointing at him now. “Oh, don’t act so innocent. I know what you’re planning next…”
The Alpha cocks a caterpillar eyebrow. “And what’s that?”
I bare my teeth, eyes flashing with rage. “You’re getting her an elephant!”
The words leave my mouth before I can stop myself, and even I can hear how stupid I sound.
Especially when the mountains echo my voice back.
I sound like a prick.
“Yeah, right, an elephant . I guess you saw all those peanuts I bought in bulk. You got me…”
I blink. Peanuts?
What the fuck is he talking about?
Alastor seems to get it and now he laughs, yanking up his backpack. “Come on. Let’s go. We may just get there before nightfall.”
It's almost dusk and a few stars are twinkling on the horizon.
Finally, I grab my own backpack, and now all three of us head up the mountain.
I give Alastor the lead.
Whether I like it or not, right now, he is pack lead. And he will be the one to get us to the campsite.
Just like he was the one who found Ella.
I’m still secretly thankful for that, and I don’t know what we would have done without him.
If I put my trust in him, just maybe… we can do this.
Maybe we can win back our Omegas.
It all just depends on me.
It depends on all of us.
