Epilogue
MAUI, HAWAII… MONTHS LATER…
“Mommy, come on!” Sophie screeched over the large suite Asif, her, and I were staying in for the baby moon.
My mother had offered to keep her, but Asif and I agreed that we wanted Sophie to experience a nice vacation, especially with a new baby coming that would take away some of the attention her spoiled butt was getting. Then a little over two months after the baby got here, we would be getting married.
“Okay. Mommy can’t walk as fast anymore,” I said, entering the kitchen where Asif had set out a bunch of cupcakes.
They weren’t just normal cupcakes, but gender reveal cupcakes. The way it worked was we would bite each one until we got to the one filled with either pink or blue.
“Been waiting forever to see you walk in to the room with my baby in you.” Asif eyed me in admiration as I strutted in my two-piece bathing suit, belly on display.
“You’re lying.” I blushed and he gave me a look that said I knew better than to think such a thing.
This pregnancy had been the one I’d been dreaming of. Asif catered to my every need, food cravings and foot or full-body massages included. He’d already built everything the baby needed and bought whatever I needed as well.
“Aight, Soph, what you think the baby is?” Asif inquired, setting her on the countertop.
“A boy, Daddy!”
“You’re just saying that because daddy says it’s a boy.” I rolled my eyes playfully. My baby was officially a daddy’s girl.
Sophie had decided on her own to call Asif daddy. One day, Couture’s son Keyz asked if Asif was her father, and something clicked for her, so she’d been calling him daddy ever since. She never called Cedric daddy, and I just thought it was because she was young, and he never spent much time with her, but I realized it was possibly because she just didn’t think he was her dad. Whereas with Asif, she could feel it.
“Tell ya mama stop hating.” He spread the cupcakes out perfectly with his perfect ass, standing there shirtless, covered in tattoos, with his locs hanging loosely. No longer was I thinking about winning the gender game but when I could climb his big ass like a tree.
His caramel skin was even darker from being out in Maui, enjoying the sun, and the sight made me lick my lips.
“Okay, let’s start biting. I’m anxious,” I said, and everyone grabbed a cupcake.
Asif bent down some and said to my belly, “Before we start I want you to know no matter what you are, Daddy love you.” His lips pressed to my stomach as I smiled before he stood upright.
For the next minute or so, we bit and checked, bit and checked, until finally, Sophie screeched, “Blue! It’s blue, Mommy!”
Asif snatched it from her to confirm, and I was right there looking. Sophie was on the money because the innards of the cake were definitely a deep blue.
“I knew it!” Asif shouted excitedly, picking Sophie up who was also cheering. We’d decided if it were a boy, we’d name him Amir St. Thomas.
I could only watch the duo with a smile as I polished my cupcake off. The shit was so good.
I sucked my teeth jokingly, before Asif walked over to kiss me deeply, his free hand on my miniature round stomach.
I truly didn’t care and was just as excited as they were. I couldn’t wait to have a little Asif, and more babies by him, possibly, even after thirty-eight.
As I watched my man and daughter sway around the kitchen, singing happily while I munched on another cupcake, I could do nothing but bask in the sight.
I would never forget when Asif asked me to save room for us, and though it seemed impossible at the time with all the shit I had going on, I was so happy that I did. I don’t think I would’ve made it this far without him.
