Chapter 14
I should never have openedmy mouth.
I shouldn’t have told her any piece of the truth, because I’m playing with fire, but at that moment, when she was saying those things, I wanted to kiss her.
The truth seemed like a solid alternative.
We lie in the dark together while the rain beats down on the roof, and there’s a canyon between us. Hannah’s not crying any more, but I can tell she’s not asleep because she’s shivering nonstop. The temperature in the room has steadily dropped the later it’s gotten, and I don’t have a fireplace in here.
I haven’t secured the rest of the house, so we’re not going to hang out in the living room overnight.
And you like being in bed with her.
Hannah’s teeth chatter next to me, and she tries to snuggle deeper under the covers.
“You good?”
“Y-Y-Yeah,” she says. “J-J-Just dandy. B-B-Best n-n-night of my life.” She exhales the last part of the sentence.
I get under the covers and make a snap decision. My hand closes on her upper arm, and she turns her head. “What are you?—?”
“Come here.” I pull her across the bed toward me, and she lets out a squeak. I wrap her against my side, her head resting on my bicep, but I stay on my back. If I try to spoon this woman, no amount of talking is going to bolster my willpower.
Hannah lies stiff as a board for a second, but the cold gets the better of her. Her hand sneaks across my chest and up to my neck, and she turns onto her side and nuzzles into me.
I place my hand on her back. “There,” I say. “Now, get some sleep.”
“I’ll try.” Her voice is shaking, but her body warms against mine.
She slides her leg up my thigh.
“Hannah.”
“Hmm?”
“Stop moving.” I’m already hard just lying next to her. Now that she’s pressed up against my side, my dick is throbbing.
“Sorry, just trying to get warm and comfortable.”
I grunt.
Her breathing evens out and slows, and I relax a little. I’m out of the danger zone now that she’s dropped off, but the sweet floral scent of that perfume on her skin drives me crazy. I force myself to focus on my duties as a bodyguard.
I listen to the rain and the thunder. The ranch house creaks and groans around us, and the wind picks up, but I’m listening for smaller sounds. Movements. Anything that can be a threat to her.
The thought of her in danger has me tense.
Hannah sighs in her sleep. She shifts her leg up my body to get more comfortable, and it brushes over my cock. I tense as she rests her thigh on top of my length.
Gently, I take her leg and move it down, hoping it won’t wake her, but when I shift my gaze to her face, her eyes are open, glistening in the dark.
“Sleep,” I say.
“Savage,” she whispers.
“Sleep.” I am fast losing control of this situation.
“I don’t want to sleep,” she whispers.
Fuck, this is bad. This is so fucking bad. “But you need to sleep, Princess.”
“Princess?”
I clench my jaw.
Hannah shifts her leg over my cock, and it pulses in response to the contact. “You won’t and can’t touch me, is that right?”
I lie there, biting down so hard my teeth might crack.
“That’s unfortunate,” she whispers, pressing her nose against my throat and exhaling the words against me.
“Are you trying to torture me?” I grate it out.
“It would be nothing compared to what you’ve done to me over the years.”
“What have I done to you, Hannah?”
“It’s not so much what you’ve done,” she whispers against my throat, her lips on my skin. Not a kiss. Just words. No rules broken. “It’s how you’ve made me feel.”
“I’ve never tried to make you?—”
She shifts her body so quickly, I don’t react in time. She’s on top of me, straddling me.
Fuck. Hannah is straddling me, and she sits up in the dark, pressing the warmth of her pussy against my dick. We’re both fully clothed. She’s got those silk shorts, I’ve got my gray sweats, but I can still feel her, and she can feel me.
“Princess.” The warning springs out of me, along with the word I shouldn’t say.
“I like it when you call me that,” she whispers, and moves in the dark. Her phone light flares, and she unlocks her screen, so that blue light illuminates her sitting astride me.
I tuck my hands to my sides. I swore I would not touch this woman.
She grinds against me a little, shifting this way and that. “This is how you made me feel, Savage,” she whispers. “This is how torturous it is to be told you can’t have something you desperately want. Someone you’ve wanted for so long, you can’t even… think straight any more.”
She stops moving, and I release a breath, trying to keep myself under control. If I move, I’m going to do something we’ll both regret in the long run. “I won’t hurt you,” I snap.
“Then don’t.” Hannah takes the hem of her silk PJ top and lifts it up and over her head, exposing her full breasts to me, her nipples puckering in the cold. Her stomach is smooth, and she’s got a tiny star tattooed underneath her left breast. “You know,” she breathes, and there’s a nervous hiccup to her words, “I heard that being naked is better for sharing body heat.”
I do not have the capability to use my mouth. I stare at her. She’s more perfect than I imagined, than I fantasized about.
“And I meant what I said before,” she says, as the light on her phone screen dies, hiding her gorgeous curves in the dark. She slips off me sideways and goes back to cuddling my side as if nothing happened. “I’m going to make you beg for it.” This time, her voice is steady.
She drops off to sleep again, and I am left there, speechless and totally and utterly fucked.
