Chapter Two

The next morning, Grant pulled into the ranch and then backed the trailer up to the stables. He got out and looked around at all the activity. Several people were brushing horses or leading them.

He couldn't see Tiffany, so he made his way into the stables. He grunted when a small person ran into him. He grabbed onto her shoulders to keep her from falling.

"Oh, my God. I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you?" she asked.

He chuckled. He was a foot taller than her and outweighed her by close to a hundred pounds, and she was worried she'd hurt him. "No. Did I hurt you ?"

He watched her think about it for a moment and then shook her head.

"No, I'm good."

"Where are you off to in such a hurry?" he asked.

"Oh, I'm not in a hurry."

"So why run?"

"I get more done that way," she said and grinned. "You can let go of me now."

He reluctantly released her and took a step back. He studied her expression. Although Tiffany had told him Sara was sad to see her go, she hid it. She kept a smile on her face, but he caught a shadow in her eyes.

"Tiffany has her. She's brushing her down," Sara said.

"How old are you?"

She sputtered and then laughed. "I don't think you're supposed to ask a woman that or how much she weighs."

He shrugged. "I was never good at following rules."

She adorably wrinkled her nose. "Forty-seven."

He tried to find anything that would show her age, but she looked like she was twenty.

"I'm sure you've been told you look younger?"

She nodded and grinned. "Yes, a few times. I take care of myself and have good genes."

"Well, you're doing a hell of a job."

He watched her blush, and he wondered how someone her age still felt embarrassed at compliments.

"Thank you. Tiff is in the stables."

"All right."

She paused for a moment and then waved. "Have a good day."

He stopped her when she got a few feet away.

"Tiffany says you love Dream Catcher?" he asked.

She turned, and he frowned at the mask of indifference she tried to show. "She's a beautiful horse. You'll enjoy her."

"You can come to see her whenever you want," Grant said, slightly shocked he'd offered.

Her eyes brightened for a moment and then went dull again. "That's okay. I don't want to disrupt the ranch."

"Keep it in mind."

"Maybe you should ask the owner first," she said. "I'd hate for you to get in trouble having strangers around."

He almost told her he was the owner, but for some reason, he wanted her to think he was a ranch hand and not a man with money. "He won't care."

"We'll see. I gotta go."

He watched her walk off and couldn't prevent his cock from hardening at the sight of her tight ass. She was slender but had the curves men loved. He'd always been a sucker for brunettes and ones with longer hairstyles. Her hair was dark and long enough to hit the middle of her back, and it was in a ponytail, so he knew it would be longer when it was free. The shirts she wore were big on her and hid the size of her breasts until she bent a certain way, and then he caught the curve of one and knew they'd fill his hands. He'd always liked larger breasts.

When she was out of sight, he made his way into the stables. Within an hour, he had the mare in his trailer and was shaking Tiffany's hand.

"I think you'll be pleased with her," she said.

"I know I will. Hey, what does Sara do when she's not here?"

Tiffany smiled. "So, you want to get to know her, huh?"

He rolled his eyes. "Maybe."

"Let me see. She does some bookkeeping for a few businesses in town, and I know she trains dogs. She's always busy with something. The woman doesn't know the meaning of relaxing."

His eyebrows rose. "We had a dog show up at the ranch a few weeks ago, but he won't let anyone near him. I'd like to get help for it because he has a skin condition, is very thin, and there are probably other things wrong with him, but I'm not sure I'd want her close to it."

"Oh, she'll be fine. She definitely has a way with animals."

"Text me her number, and I'll get in touch with her," Grant said.

"She's great. You'll see."

He waved, got in his truck, and drove away. Different scenarios ran through his mind. He didn't know the best way to get in touch with her. He thought a call wasn't enough, so maybe he'd stop by her place and ask her about the dog, or was that too forward? It would be easy enough to get to her address.

Hell, he'd think about it. At the moment, he just wanted to get the horse home and comfortable. He'd give her some time to settle in before he started to breed her.
