Epilogue
Rowan wasn't bluffing when he said he was going to run off with us. After reconnecting with our son and making sure we were both safe to fly, Roe took us on a private jet and whisked us away to a private island near the Dominican Republic for a month. We were there for less than a week when I noticed he was itching to check in on his organization. Two weeks in, I broached the subject with him only for him to insist he was fine. The following week we really sat down and discussed going home. I know he missed his brothers and honestly so did Rhett and I. We decided to stay an additional week just to soak up the alone time.
But that was six months ago, today we're having a cookout with everyone including Britt who has decided to move here now that Preston has been declared missing for several months. She knows the bare minimum, just enough so she isn't completely in the dark. She's been here for a little while now, and seems to be really settling in. Although, now that I'm looking around I don't see her. Come to think of it, I don't see a specific brother in law either.
I'm not blind, nor am I stupid, I've caught their little glances today when they think no one is looking. Just like how everyone is preoccupied now, and here Kieran and Britt come sneaking out from behind the guest house. Britt is wiping the corner of her lips, and Kieran has the sneakiest grin. Gross, but at the same time let's all hope this works out. If not, how do I pick between them?
I feel Rowan walk up behind me before I see him, he leans down over the back of the patio couch to kiss my forehead. "Wife."
Smiling up at him I'm amused by his constant need to call me his wife, "Husband."
Yeah, Rowan wasn't lying that day in the basement. I called his bluff the night he gave me my bracelet. He really did have a Judge at the house within the hour and Declan was the only one to witness the whole thing. Now I have a beautiful solitaire diamond ring and a wedding band surrounded by smaller diamonds on my left hand at all times. My bracelet never leaves my wrist either, especially now knowing that's how I was found.
He quickly kisses my lips then straightens up, "Where's Rhett?"
Shrugging I call out, "Rhett!"
His head pops up from the playground where he's playing with Killian, "Yes, Mommy."
Smirking at Rowan I shrug again, "Found him."
Rowan's beaming at our son, "We're just checking on you Bear"
"Okay!"
Rhett got his cochlear implant a few months ago. He's in speech therapy and we sign and speak at the same time. He's finding his voice though, he's getting the hang of it, and when he doesn't want to hear, he takes his processors off and makes sure Rowan has them to keep them safe.
Killian was drugged and was being held just a few rooms over from mine in that basement. When Mac found him he'd been beaten so bad he was barely alive. He's made a full recovery and refuses to let anyone else take over as our personal security. We offered to give him all the time off he needed, but when we got back from our vacation he was here ready to work. He's part of the family at this point, and Rhett's warmed up to him therefore he must play on the playground with him at least three times a week.
Rowan comes around the couch and sits beside me before pulling me into his lap. The hand with his solid black wedding band wraps around my waist and his chin leans on my shoulder, "I'm so happy we have this life. Thank you for bringing this light into it."
Smiling, I take my arm and loop it around his neck so I can play with his hair, "Thank you for loving us, fighting for us, and showing us what family actually means. I love you."
He presses his lips to mine and slips his tongue in. We're lost in the moment when someone plops down beside us and physically pushes Rowan's face from mine. He glares at the intruder but I know exactly who it is, opening my eyes and looking straight into Brittany's gray ones we both start laughing.
"Yes, Darling, how can I help you?"
Britt smirks at me which tells me she's about to gross Rowan out, "Thank you so much for asking! I have a dilemma. I think I'm in love with your brother-in-law's dick. Seriously, Clara, it's magic, and holy shit does he know how to use it."
Rowan gags as he stands up and deposits me carefully beside my best friend, "That's my cue to leave. I'm going to hang out with Rhett and talk about man stuff."
We giggle as he walks off and I can't help but notice movement out of the corner of my eye. Just like I'm watching Rowan with nothing but pure love and devotion, I notice Kieran looking at Britt with nothing but what looks like the exact same emotions I'm watching Roe with. Turning back to Britt before I get caught, I pin her with my best mom look.
"Okay, so spill. You're hooking up with Kieran?"
She sighs, "Yes, I'm sorry. I wanted to keep it under wraps, but obviously I can't because I need to talk this through."
A smile takes over my face, "Under wraps from who, exactly?"
"Well, from all of you. But then I gave him head behind the pool house, so I guess the secret's out." She doesn't look as ashamed as she's trying to sound.
"I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the boys know. Have you not noticed how Kieran is barely talking to them?"
Her eyes widen and her mouth drops open, "They aren't talking because of me?"
Before I can say anything she excuses herself, grabs her keys off the patio table and darts into the house. No doubt to make her escape. I'm getting up to follow her, but stop as Kieran catches my attention. He's running after her with his motorcycle helmet in his hand. Well, this just got interesting.
