Chapter Fourteen

Amelia woke to the fire inside of her flaring. She rolled over, her hands going to Rome in restless need. She needed him. What he did to her made her wild, but she needed more. There was an ache deep inside of her that she couldn’t reach. Her fingers were vainly pumping in and out of her pussy, but it was torture, like a scratch she couldn’t reach on a deeper plane.

Rome grabbed her, pressing her body against his. The need in the room flared. Her pheromones saturated his senses until all he could scent, see, hear, and feel was the overwhelming need of his mate.

Amelia writhed against his as she begged for something she couldn’t articulate. She knew what she needed, even if her mind was buried under a fog of heat. His hand replaced hers. His fingers stroked and played with her clit before diving as deep as they could into her pussy. A whimpering sob came from her as an orgasm rolled through her.

The fire inside of her climbed higher. It didn’t abate, and she felt herself pushing against him. She was desperate to get closer. Rome kissed her, his hands caressing her body as his tongue worked its way down to her breasts and then lower. Every touch from him was like kindling, making the inferno burn higher. The need inside of her was a scratching, guttural thing that threatened to consume her. Another whimper came, and he turned her over.

His mouth was once again between her legs. It pushed her over the edge until a scream of pleasure laced with need came from her. His hands pushed her legs wide, and he was between them. His cock stood tall, saluting her. Several beads of pre-cum were on the tip, and she licked her lips before a finger swiped out and caught the beads. She brought them to her nose, memorizing the scent of her mate, before placing her finger into her mouth and sucking on it. It was delicious. She wanted more as she licked her lips and eyed his cock.

“One desire at a time, little wolf.” He fisted his cock and rubbed the inside of her slit, getting her honey all over the head. The need inside of her almost cracked, seeping over the bed and making her into nothing but tiny little parts that would never be put back together again. Before that happened, the tip of his cock penetrated her pussy. She was gasping for air as her hips tried to thrust. One of Rome’s hands gripped her hip, keeping her planted against the bed as he slowly drove his cock inside of her.

“Yes, yes, yes,” she chanted, wanting everything he had to offer.

When he was seated deeply inside of her, he let her waist go and started moving. She followed every move, amazed at how full she felt. He was rubbing against the walls of her pussy, making every sensation ten times more. The sensation of him withdrawing, then stroking deeply within her, built an inferno inside her that burned uncontrollably.

“No one has ever made me feel like this,” she whispered. Her voice was hoarse from all the screaming.

“I’m going to knot you.”

“Yes, please.” She had no idea what a knot was, but she wanted everything he gave her.

Sweat covered her as he continued to pump in and out. She met him thrust for thrust, feeling her soul attempt to leave her body and fly around the room. He started to grow inside her, making the feeling she loved intensify until she let out a keening sound as her orgasm rolled through her. Sharp pain rolled through the space where her shoulders met her neck as Rome bit her. It turned into pleasure, melding with her intense orgasm. Amelia lowered her head and bit him, completing the circle. She felt and heard as he howled with his pleasure. She could feel his seed pumping into her. Then she felt a growth at the base of his cock that locked them into place.

It felt like the pleasure rolled through her for hours before her eyes finally closed. She was wrung out and didn’t have the energy to ask what a knot was and why his cock had blown up like that.

Amelia opened her eyes. She felt like her legs wouldn’t hold her if she tried to stand. She looked at Rome. Her hand shot to her mouth to hide the shock she felt. He looked worse than her. He had lost ten, maybe twenty pounds.

Rome groaned, trying to open his eyes.

“How many days?” His mate’s voice was hoarse and weak.

“Four.” She had been insatiable, and he rose to the occasion every time. His cock was tender. He let out a snort at the word immortal. It meant Jack shit when it came to a mate in heat.

“Knock, knock,” Sheela’s voice came along with the knocking at the door. “Cover up, I come bearing food.”

“I could eat a cow,” Amelia said.

Sheela walked in with a large tray that would go over both their legs. “Can you sit up, or do you need help?” she asked Amelia. There was no way she’d ever insult her alpha with such a question.

“I’ve got her.” Rome maneuvered Amelia until she was sitting against the headboard with pillows behind her back. Then he sat up and Sheela placed the tray over their legs.

“Everything looks good, thank you, Sheela.”

“You’re welcome, alpha mate.” She looked at Rome. “Alpha.” She dipped her head in respect before leaving.

“Alpha mate, that’s going to take getting used to. My ex-pack and a hunter were trying to kill me. Now, I’m mated to the alpha and have a new pack.”

“Don’t get comfortable. I’m not convinced there isn’t another hunter out there.” She nodded. It would make sense. Julie had been off their radar too long to be relied upon.

“I hear you.”

“Do I have to give you the same lecture as the teens?”

She laughed, couldn’t help it. “I’m listening to you, Alpha, and I hear you. I also agree with your reasoning. It would have been nice though, if Julie was the only one hunting for me.” Amelia drank her juice before starting on her food. She stopped mid-bite to give thanks to Luna. She wouldn’t be here without her watching over her.

“Why did Luna decide to protect me?” She’d been thinking about it for a while. All those babies that died along with their parents. She was glad not to be one, but why her and not one of them?

“The only one that can answer that question is Luna. You can ask, but don’t be surprised if she doesn’t answer.”

“I know.” If the female she’d been talking to was indeed the goddess, she was familiar with how she simply didn’t answer questions she deemed not worth her time. She doubted Luna was going to have a heart-to-heart with her, including Amelia into her secrets.

Amelia started eating while she took in Rome’s room. The bed was big; she bet it was bigger than a king-size. The sheets and comforter were black. Why so stark? The walls were gray and the curtains he had up were a deeper gray. As a contrast to the walls? It was a male’s room, but it wasn’t a wolf’s room. It also wasn’t Rome’s room, even if he slept there. There was nothing here that stood for the wolf she mated. He was funny and could be sweet. Yes, he was alpha and demanded to be respected, but his people did that naturally, through trust, not fear.

“You don’t like our room?” He caught her eyes as she searched the room and the small frown she was trying to hide from him.

“I mean…” How was she supposed to tell him that his bedroom was depressing? The pictures on the walls were storms at sea. Why would he do this to his room? It was his personal space, and yet she couldn’t feel the male or the wolf in here.

“Redo it.” Her mouth hung open. She didn’t want him to think she didn’t like his space. She didn’t…still.

“About ten years ago, I brought in outsiders to modernize the town. I also brought in a team of designers to make sure that everyone had what they wanted in their houses. You want tile, marble, something exotic, it’s yours. We kept the exterior of the houses simple and went wild on the inside. The pack decided I needed my personal space remodeled as well. I may not have made the best impact on the designer. Everything she did for me was dark.”

“You wanted her gone and didn’t protest.” Rome would have cared about his people. Having lived so long, his space wouldn’t have been as important to him. She was willing to bet that if she went into one of the pack’s houses it would be beautiful.

“You’re starting to know me. Redesign this, make it our space and not this strange space in limbo.”

“I like that, in limbo. This space looks like it’s waiting for someone to come in and make it beautiful.”

“It’s waiting for you.”

She blushed, thoughts of what she could do running through her head. “The bathroom and the closets?”

“I think you’ll be pleased with them. I did state exactly what I wanted in them. In here it’s paint and pictures, which can always be changed.”

“I can’t call my father or Nicole, can I?” She knew she couldn’t, but she wanted or maybe needed to tell her father she was safe. It would be wonderful to let Nicole know there was life outside the pack. Maybe she would want to come visit.

Rome took her hand, kissing the back of it. “Eventually, but not right now.” He pulled her into his arms. “Keeping you safe is my number one priority. I can’t do that if everyone knows where you are. Your father wants you safe. He’d rather you didn’t call. There’s a hunter out there and we don’t know what he knows. He may know what you look like or where you came from. We don’t know if Julie got in touch with the hunters. I don’t think that’s likely, but it’s always a possibility.”

“I know, you’re right. I never realized how much I would miss him.”

“He’s your father. Of course, you miss him.”

“Are your parents still alive?”

Her eyes went wide, and she pushed him forward and leaned down behind him. She’d seen that bullet pierce his back hard enough to tear through his heart. There wasn’t a wound. Why wasn’t he dead? Wolves can’t survive a bullet through the heart.

“There are things I might have left out when we were talking. Now might not be the best time to spring them on you.”

She crossed her arms and stared at him, trying not to remember how good he could make her feel. There would be no secrets between them.

He took one look at her, and an involuntary smile tilted his lips. Alpha mate indeed.

“I told you how my brothers and I were hunting bear. I might have forgotten to mention that it was centuries ago. The white man was not on this continent. It was before The People were here. They’re an offshoot of my people. That’s why the similar looks.”

“That’s impossible. You’re talking like six or seven hundred years ago.”

“We stopped counting at ten centuries.”

She started gasping for air. Her hand was pounding on her chest as Rome rubbed circles on her back and told her it would be okay.

When she could finally breathe, she looked over at him. Thinking she knew him and knowing him were two different things. It was time for him to let her into the ‘this is Rome’ club.

“I think you should tell me everything.” She pushed the tray to the bottom of the bed and waited for him to tell her what she didn’t know.
