CHAPTER 7
Angela
" S hit!" I shriek and clutch wildly at any piece of him I can get a nail into. "What the hell, Granite? What are you doing?"
He smirks down at me and my heart skips a beat. Until I glance down and it seems like the world is miles and miles away underneath us. The air is cool on my overheated skin and my dress flutters around us in a peach and lace veil. "I told you that I only travel one way. I can't even fit in a car let alone drive one."
I huff. "I'm pretty sure we could have found a way to do this that didn't involve sudden death from splatting into the ground!" I close my eyes and curl into him tighter. His body is warm and hard against me and my blood sings with the need for him.
He purrs in my ear. "Have I told you that it's customary for gargoyles to mate with their one in the air?"
My eyes fly open and I screech, "Are you crazy? There's no way in hell I will ever want to have sex while flying!"
He chuckles and his glittering sky-blue eyes wander down my body. "You'll never know how good it is unless you try it, little one."
"Not going to happen, Granite. And who said anything about having sex?" My out of control libido is about to smack the hell out of me because she wants to have him. Right this second. Little slut!
"What's going on here, Granite? I thought we were just going to look at your place."
"I'm just giving you a little fact, mate. I can't help it you took it the wrong way."
I lift a brow and pull back with a skeptical look. Until I look down and realize how fast we're moving. I jerk back into him, shutting my eyes tightly. "Jeez!"
I want him. I want all of him. But there's some part of me that knows if I have sex with him I'm done for. I'll never be able to tell him good-bye. And I'm confused. Sometimes I want it. Sometimes I fear it.
"Shit!" Granite's arms jerk me tighter against him as something slams into us and we whirl out of control.
I scream and scrabble to get as close as I can. "Granite! What's going on? Where are we?"
"Flying over Magic but something is really wrong. I slammed into a shield and then something else hit me."
He growls as my eyes open and he straightens out. But his blue eyes narrow and gleam with feral intent. "Demons," he grunts under his breath.
"What?" My head whips back and forth. "Where?" But I don't need him to tell me that something is up here with us now. I can see the red streak coming at us and I scream as Granite dips and dives, struggling to outrun the creature.
"Fucking asshole," he growls and then it hits us again and I scream as his arms loosen and I feel myself falling. My eyes search desperately for him and I see a gray bullet heading straight for me, his arms out to catch me.
"Granite! Watch out!" There's only seconds before I hit the ground and I close my eyes, my stomach twisting as I hope it's quick.
"Ooof!" I grunt and grasp at Granite like he's my last lifeline. His muscular arms wrap around me and tears streak down my cheeks. "Granite," I whimper and hold on tight as he skims the lake below us. Water dapples the air around us, shimmering and wetting us.
Granite shakes his head like a dog and roars with laughter. "No faith in me, my love?"
"That is not funny, Granite," I huff and relax as we fly away from Magic. I turn back and I can see the air is different around the town. My eyes narrow when I see the people moving around under what seems like a dome. "What's going on back there?"
He glances back and then searches the air. "I'm not sure. But it must be serious if they've activated a dome to protect them and demons are hanging around outside it."
I nod my head but I can't help thinking about my best friend, Jemma. She moved to Magic with her cousin who's her only living relative. We've been friends since school so I tried to keep in touch. But whatever is going on in that town is obviously freezing me out.
I hope she's alright.
I turn back to Granite and he eyes me sympathetically. "I'm sure your friend is alright. Sheriff Canton is a great guy and a very strong wolf shifter. He runs the town like a well-oiled machine and doesn't put up with any shit."
I nod my head but my eyes keep drifting back to the dome over the town. "I'm sure she's alright. Jemma is strong as hell. She's been through a lot over the years."
"Magic has been a very safe haven for shifters and magic folk for a long time. But the shifters have moved inward towards it for awhile now. Like they know that something's going on and they wanted a stronger, larger group of them for safety's sake."
"But we'll worry about that another day, mate. For now…I want you to get to know me."
I should tell him to take me home. But I don't fucking want to. I want to find out what it's like to be claimed by magic.
Find out what all the fuss is about. Since I've never been with anyone. But this isn't just anyone and it wouldn't just be sex. This male thinks that I'm his. He thinks he belongs to me too.
My heart flips when I think about that. He keeps talking about me belonging to him but by the same token that means that he's mine. I belong with this magnificent creature according to him.
That's a wild fucking thing to think about! I'm just not sure how or what I should feel.
Other than hungry as hell.
"Hold on, mate." Granite dips and his wings expand around us, the leathery texture flapping lightly in the breeze as we come down and the ground comes up under us. "His clawed feet hit the ground and dig in. The smell of earth around us tickles my nose as we finally drop to terra firm.
He gently sets my feet on the ground. So gently that I barely feel the earth beneath me. But my body settles for the first time in at least half an hour.
My head clears and I realize that I'm alone out here with a male I barely know. Should I trust him?
Hell, should I trust myself?
He sweeps a hand out and my eyes lift, settling on the walls of a dark stone castle. "Welcome to my humble home, mate."
My eyes sweep up and up and my mouth falls open on a gasp. "Holy shit! It's a castle. You live in a castle."
