Chapter 17

17

Rhett

Sofia sleeps peacefully next to me. Earlier, when I brought her back to my place, I had several texts from the guys, all showing their love for her. I smiled as I had Sofia read them. I hope she believes every word because they're true.

We made love last night because I wanted to show her how I felt, because every bit of it was true. When we both finally came, we did it together, and I fell even deeper for her.

Sofia stirs slightly in her sleep, snuggling closer to me. I wrap my arm tighter around her, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. My heart swells as I look at her peaceful face.

I meant every word I said to her earlier. I am falling in love with her—hell, I think I'm already there. She's changed everything for me. Before Sofia, I never wanted anything serious. I was content with casual hookups and keeping things superficial.

But Sofia...she makes me want more. She makes me want a future, a life together. The thought of coming home to her every day, of building a life and family with her someday—it doesn't scare me like it used to. It excites me.

I hate that those women made her doubt herself and us. Sofia is the most amazing woman I've ever met, inside and out. Her kind heart, her gentle spirit, her beautiful mind. She is everything I didn't know I wanted.

Mom has been desperate to meet her, wanting to meet the girl who has gotten her son to want a relationship. I promised we do it soon. We've just been enjoying getting to know each other.

Sofia stirs from beside me, her eyes fluttering open. She smiles softly when she sees me watching her. "Good morning," she murmurs sleepily.

I love when her face is soft from sleep. "Good morning, beautiful," I reply, leaning in to kiss her gently before pulling back.

She snuggles closer, resting her head on my chest. "Thank you for last night," she says quietly. "For everything you said. I'm sorry I let those women get to me."

I stroke her soft hair gently. "You have nothing to apologize for, baby. I'm just sorry they made you feel that way at all." I tilt her chin up so she's looking at me. "I meant every word I said. You are everything to me, Sofia."

Her blue eyes search mine, and I can see the vulnerability there, but also hope and love. "I love you too, Rhett," she whispers.

My heart races and I can't help the huge smile that spreads across my face. Hearing those words from Sofia fills me with a joy I've never experienced before.

"Say it again," I murmur, needing to hear those precious words again.

Sofia smiles softly. "I love you, Rhett."

I capture her lips in a deep, passionate kiss, pouring all my love and adoration into it. When we finally break apart, we're both breathless. Fuck, will I ever get enough of her?

"I love you so much, Sofia," I repeat, resting my forehead against hers. "You've changed everything for me. I never thought I'd want this kind of relationship, but with you...I want it all."

She looks up at me, her blue eyes shining. "Really? You want...a future with me?"

I nod, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I do."

Sofia reaches up, cupping my face, and strokes my cheek. "Is it okay to admit, I'm scared."

I grab her hand and kiss the palm. "Of course, I'm scared too, baby, but that's okay. You just stick with me and we'll tackle this together."

She nods, a small smile playing on her lips. "Together. I like the sound of that."

I pull her closer, kissing her forehead. "Me too. We're in this together, Sofia. Whatever comes our way, we'll face it as a team."

We lie here for a while longer, just holding each other and basking in the glow of our newly confessed love. Eventually, Sofia's stomach growls loudly, making us both laugh.

"I guess that's our cue to get up and find some breakfast," I say, giving her one more kiss before sitting up.

We take turns in the bathroom and when I head out into the kitchen, I find Sofia at my coffee maker, starting it. She turns when I enter and walks right into my arms while the coffee brews. I hold her until the coffee beeps and then we snuggle on my couch while we drink.

Sofia snuggles closer to me on the couch as we sip our coffee. I love these quiet moments together, just enjoying each other's company. My job can be loud and busy, so when I can, sometimes it's nice to enjoy the quiet.

"What do you want to do today?" I ask, running my fingers through her soft hair.

She hums contentedly. "This is nice. Maybe we could just have a lazy day in? Watch movies, order takeout later?"

I smile, loving how in sync we are. "That sounds perfect to me." And it does, I love just spending time with her, we don't have to be doing anything, just hanging out and it's the best.

We spend the morning cuddled up on the couch, watching movies and talking. Around lunchtime, I whip us up some sandwiches. As we eat, I decide to broach a subject I've been thinking about.

"So, I was wondering if you'd like to meet my parents soon?" I ask, trying to sound casual. "Mom's been asking about you."

Sofia's eyes light up at my words. "I'd love to meet your parents," she replies with a smile. "And I know my mom would be thrilled to meet you too."

I feel a sense of relief and excitement wash over me. "Great, maybe we could do dinner with my parents next weekend? And then we could have your mom over to my place the next forty-eight I'm off?"

Sofia nods enthusiastically. "That sounds perfect. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about meeting your parents though."

I take her hand in mine, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't be nervous, baby. They're going to love you, I promise. My mom is already half in love with you just from what I've told her."

She laughs softly. "Well, I hope I live up to the hype."

"You will," I assure her. "Just be yourself. That's who I fell in love with."

Sofia blushes at my words, her smile soft and warm. "You always know just what to say to make me feel better."

I lean in and kiss her gently. "It's the truth. You're amazing just as you are, Sofia."

We finish our lunch and settle back on the couch. Sofia curls into my side as we start another movie. As the afternoon wears on, I find myself thinking about the future—our future.

I've never been one to plan ahead or think long term when it comes to relationships. But with Sofia, I can't help but imagine a life together. Coming home to her every day. Maybe getting a house together someday. The thought of marriage and kids doesn't terrify me like it used to.

"What are you thinking about?" Sofia asks, noticing my faraway look.

I smile down at her. "Just thinking about us."

We settle in and spend the rest of the day together.
