14. Rebel

I knewwhat Evie said was true, but we didn't know if the mafia was following her. I wasn't ready for her to leave. I heard her father talking about returning home, and I asked him to wait a little longer so we could be positive no one was after Evie. "What is it going to hurt to stay a little longer? Stay a month."

I wanted to tell him that my heart would be unrepairable if I stayed another month. The longer I stayed around Hannah and him, the more I allowed myself to dream of things I couldn't have.

"If I have to watch over my shoulder for the rest of my life, what kind of life would that be? I wouldn't be able to have children without locking them behind a wall. They would have no life. I need to explain to whoever this Reaper guy is that it wasn't anything I was threatening. It was just something that I did because of Kylie."

"Goodnight, Eve." I smiled. This woman was becoming a habit. She was always ready when I wanted her, and I was always ready when she wanted me. Twenty minutes later, I walked into her room. She was in the shower, so I joined her.

"We won't fall asleep; if you do, I'll wake up and send you to your room."

"Okay, but let"s hurry," she said, throwing my shirt over her head. I slipped on my pants. We made love until three in the morning, and took a shower before Evie went back to her room. My bed felt empty without her in it. I shut my eyes and slept until I heard someone talking to Hannah.

"Why are you up so early?" I asked, turning her to me and kissing her.

"Did you notice it was daylight? And anyone can walk in here and see you with your hands on my ass."

"You feel so good I couldn't help myself," I said, kissing her again. Then, I kissed Hannah. Good morning, sweetie; I love you."

"Dada," Hannah said, reaching for me. I picked her up and glanced at Evie. "Thanks for changing her," I said as I leaned down and ran my tongue over her bottom lip. Evie turned and wrapped her arms around Hannah and me.

"I have to leave in a bit. I'm giving piano lessons to Raider's boys," Evie said, stepping back.

"I'll take you there."

"That won't be necessary. Daisy is picking me up. She will be watching the boys while Raider is away."

"I'll pick you up."

"Okay, because it's my turn to cook dinner."

"I'm going to show you how to make Chili Verde. Remember I said I would show you new recipes?"

"I swear you are so sweet. Yes, I remember. Okay, do I need to get anything at the store?"

"No, I have to shop for more healthy foods for Hannah, so I'll pick up what we need." We made our way to the kitchen, where Spartan, Allison, Adam, and Martha sat drinking their coffee. I put Hannah in her seat and started fixing her breakfast.

"I'll see all of you later. Daisy is picking me up for the boy's piano lesson," Evie said, walking out the kitchen door for Daisy to pick her up. I wanted to kiss her goodbye, and I barely caught myself before walking over to her. I went to the door and opened it. "Eve, you be careful," I said.

She smiled," Don't you worry, Dash. I'll keep my eyes open." We both wanted each other, so I knew tonight would be ours again. Was my heart getting involved more than it should? I didn't just lust for Evie. I wanted to be with her. She's smart, and I enjoyed talking to her.

When I returned from the store, everyone was in the kitchen shouting at once. I handed Hannah to Allison, and she took her back to her room for her nap. "Shut up! What is going on?"

Spartan glanced at me. "Evie never made it to Raider's house. Daisy waited for her, and when she didn't show up, she went to Raider's because he had to leave with me," Spartan growled.

"Where the fuck is she?" I asked.

"We don't know."

"Was she taken?" I demanded.

"It would seem that she was," Spartan said. "Reaper will be back today. I just talked to him. He's an hour away. Damn it. I don't want to leave here knowing Evie is missing. But we have to go. Dash, are you going to say something?"

"I am going to fucking kill anyone involved in taking Evie; I will kill them," I walked outside, looking around for any sign of a struggle. I saw the ribbon I tied in her hair after we showered this morning." I grabbed my laptop and brought up all of our cameras.

There she is, waiting for Daisy. Did that vehicle turn around? I watched as the SUV slowed down and stopped next to Evie. They talked to her, but I couldn't see who she spoke to. Spartan walked over, and neither of us could see the license plates.

Then they pulled her in. I saw her fighting, and she even pulled her arm back and took a swing. But she didn't have a chance. She was pulled into the back seat, and they took off.

"Why the fuck would she even talk to them? How many times have I told her not to talk to strangers?"

"That's just Evie; she's sweet to everyone. I'm sure she thought she would be safe here because you told her she would be," Allison said, standing with her hands on her hips.
