3. Becca

Chapter 3

Becca

Davi leads me into the poshest hotel I've ever stepped foot in. This place is even better than the one I booked— I was able to afford only beach side, but this is beach and ultra-luxury, and I can't help but gaze around the building like a child on Christmas morning staring at what Santa brought. I'm not made to be set up in a place like this. I mean, I'm in flip-flops, capris, and a tank top. This is for the businessmen, royalty, and leaders of the world.

"Davi, I'm not sure I belong here," I say as I rush to keep up. His long legs are both a curse and a blessing.

He looks over his shoulder, and a wrinkle on his forehead appears. "You belong here because I say you belong here. Believe you belong, my sweet."

Bypassing other guests, he leads me to a far elevator, which opens as if on cue for him. I stop to admire the ceiling of all things. Studded with what appears to be gemstones and the most beautiful mosaic I've ever seen.

He clears his throat and I run to catch up while I roll my eyes. I glance around and can't believe how fancy the elevator is. It's like nothing in the place is meant to be average.

"Are all Brazilian men like this?"

"Like what?"

I shrug, annoyed even to ask, but my curiosity controls the show right now. "You know, all sweet and sensitive."

Davi winks, and my belly flips. "Only the good ones."

Davi sweeps the French doors open to his home, and if I thought the hotel's entry was fancy, well, this suite is custom-made for royalty from some foreign land. Heck, a Disney princess should be living here, not somebody like me, even if it's only for a few days.

"Oh my, Davi…" I swallow down the swell of awe. "This… this is so beautiful."

He nods his head in thanks. "Thank you. Now follow me. Your room will be over here."

I follow closely behind and won't deny that I sneak a peek of the best butt I've ever come across. Accented by his board shorts, hanging perfectly from the crest of two round mounds. I've never drooled for a man's behind before, but I guess there's a first for everything.

Davi leads me down a short hallway and a door to my right is open and a small bed sits in the small room, but he keeps walking to another set of French doors and walks me straight inside. The place has windows on two conjoined walls with nothing but windows, and the ocean waves and beaches are directly in sight. It's breathtaking and simply the best room in the house.

"This is where you'll sleep." He lowers my suitcase onto a fancy stand.

"Wait… what? Isn't this your room?"

"I'll sleep in the guest room. After your day, you deserve the very best. And this, my sweet, is the very best."

Stammering like a fish trying to breathe on land, I stop, breathe, and try to speak again. "Why are you being so nice to me?"

Devi cocks his head to the side and frowns. "Why shouldn't I be nice to you? Why do you believe you deserve less?"

The words feel like a slap to the face.

Yes, why do I?

I have no way of answering him, so I decide to ignore the all too revealing question while wondering if he's full of them. "Um, I think I'm going to unpack and maybe take a quick shower."

He nods. "I will leave you to that. Is there something you'd like to eat?" His eyes soak me in, and he appears eager, like a puppy at my feet for attention. It's so wonderful and exciting to have somebody's complete attention.

"Davi, you've done plenty. I promise, I can get my own food…"

Davi shakes his head and starts for the door. Before leaving, he turns and says, "It'll never be enough, Mua Bem."

Then, with his parting words, he's gone, and this strange sense of missing him takes over me, and I shake my head.

You're turning into a loon, girl. Get your crap together.

Snapping up my phone, I close the doors to speak to Harper freely, and she answers without a greeting.

"Give me the deets. Is he as sexy as he looks in the picture?"

"Sexier," I say on a sigh.

"Is he sweeter than he looks in the picture?"

"Sweeter."

"Is he richer than he?—"

"King of some foreign country rich."

"Wow," Harper exclaims as I stand before the window and take in the breathtaking view. "I looked him up. He's a big deal in the professional surfing scene too."

"Hmmm… so he says."

Harper chuckles. "Maybe you might have a little vacation fun."

I stiffen. "I'm not a hit-it and quit-it kind of person, we both know this."

"But, Becs, what's the harm? You'll be gone in five days."

My heart ticks faster, and my stomach does another flip, this time bringing on a more nauseous feeling.

Only five days.

Just an hour ago, the number seemed so much bigger— more like a lifetime— but now it feels like it's not enough.

It'll never be enough. Davi's voice and sentiment ring in my head. He's onto something there, but I'm not sure exactly what.

"I gotta go get showered. I have a feeling he's ordering one of everything on the menu." I chuckle, hoping to cover up my instant sadness.

"Just a fling," Harper gets out before my farewell.

"Bye, Harper."

"Come on. Just one night!"

"Byyyyye." I hit cancel and giggle. My bestie can be too much sometimes.
