Chapter Sixteen
Some of the women had gone to Dodge City to do a little shopping and then end the night at Nelson's Honkytonk Saloon & Bar. Meg had thought about going but she'd hardly seen Rascal this week.
Roam had left to go to a tattoo convention and look for an additional person to possibly add to their staff. Rascal had covered the shop and worked from nine in the morning until seven at night. By the time he got home, his back was aching, and all he wanted to do was eat, watch TV with the heating pad on his back, then fall into bed exhausted.
She'd kept busy getting their quilting building ready to go along with spending a little time with Jesse. Jesse had a group of high school girls who she was teaching about cars. Meg had joined her today and thoroughly enjoyed the girls and how excited they were to learn.
Meg had also covered for Jesse when the perfume one of the girls had on had made her nauseous. Meg had informed the girls Jesse had a scent allergy to certain scents, and from now on, they'd need to not wear any perfume or body spray. She hoped it had worked because Jesse didn't need to deal with a rumor starting at the high school that got back to the MC. It was her choice and her time when she told people.
Meg was cuddled up next to Rascal on the couch. They'd eaten in front of the TV and a couple minutes ago, she'd moved his plate to the table. He'd fallen asleep with it on his lap. She moved it so Maisie and Blaze, which is what she'd named her kittens, could cuddle with them. Blaze was a boy with orange and white coloring. He is cuddly and happy but sometimes a little naughty. She loved how each kitten had such a distinct personality. Maisie was a tiger striped tabby blonde and very, very active. With Rascal gone so much this week, they had definitely filled a void. Her man was working way too hard this week, so she really hoped Roam found someone to offer the job to. Rascal loved what he did but wanted to only do special tattoos and spend more time with her and their grandkids.
He'd asked her yesterday when she wanted to get married and if she wanted a honeymoon. She'd told him she didn't care when and if he wanted to take a trip great, but she didn't need a specific honeymoon. Finding Rascal had been a gift, and although she wouldn't mind traveling with him, she wanted to enjoy just spending time with her new family and Rascal. She'd fallen in love with each of his grandkids and the other children in the MC, along with the amazing men and women. Maybe when the kids were older, they could plan something fun.
She'd laughed so hard the other day when David had once again called a Code Rachel because he wasn't happy with Phoebe. Life would never be boring with them. She picked up her phone when it beeped with a text.
Beth: Whiskey rescued a woman and her son on the side of the road, we're staying later to make sure she's okay. He wants Stella to check her out. She's running from something and doesn't want to go to the hospital. Stella asked if you could move her early appointments to the afternoon? Not sure how late we'll be.
Meg didn't mind contacting Stella's patients. She'd decided to volunteer two half days a week to help out in Stella's office until she found someone for the spot. Meg enjoyed volunteering because it gave her a chance to meet more of the townspeople.
Meg: Will do. Let us know if you need anything else.
Beth: Thanks.
Meg leaned over, kissing Rascal's cheek. "Honey, let's head to bed."
He jerked, then turned to her. His drowsy eyes gazed at her. She didn't think she'd ever get enough of him looking at her with love.
"Sorry." Rascal slid his hand into her hair, tugging her closer, he brushed her lips then captured them. She reveled in his kiss, then pulled away.
"I love you, Rascal, and I love that you're trying to give me what you think I need."
His sheepish look had her grinning. "It's okay to be exhausted. Let's get you a pain pill and your heating pad turned on. I'll cuddle on your chest. When Roam gets back, if he hasn't found someone, you're still taking some time off."
Rascal stood, taking her hand as they walked to the kitchen.
"I agree. I can't work that many hours anymore."
He poured a drink and washed one of his pain pills down with it.
"Let's go to bed."
Meg walked with Rascal into their bedroom. "Do you have an early appointment, or can you sleep in?"
"I don't have one until eleven, but don't you work early?"
Meg slipped her clothes off and crawled into bed beside Rascal. Even if they weren't making love, she loved lying beside him skin to skin and so did he.
"I have to get up and call and move Stella's appointments. They're staying late in Dodge City. Whiskey rescued a woman on the side of the road and Stella needs to check her out. After I call, I can come back to bed."
"Perfect," he whispered as he clicked off the light and wrapped his arms around her.
Meg had traveled a long road to find her soulmate, but she had. She'd had a lot of twists and turns by herself, but she wouldn't change a thing. Rascal was worth the wait. Whether she had a year or twenty years, she was going to enjoy every second with the man who'd shown her what love was.
