Epilogue

Emma

One Year Later

The roar of the crowd filled the arena, an electrifying energy that sent chills down my spine. I sat in the stands, watching Leo skate across the ice with the grace and determination that had made him a star. The past year had been a whirlwind of emotions, challenges, and growth, and as I watched him play, I couldn"t help but reflect on everything that had brought us to this moment.

The police had caught Coach Nottingham as he was fleeing the scene on that fateful night. His arrest had sent shockwaves through the sports community. He faced charges for his role in the conspiracy, and the truth about the corruption in the world of professional sports began to come to light. It was a painful but necessary process. The authorities launched a full investigation, determined to root out the corruption and ensure that justice was served. That process was still ongoing, but it had already brought about significant changes.

Sawyer had signed a plea deal and was on probation, getting help for his gambling addiction. He had quit playing professional sports and gone back to school to become a mental health counselor for at-risk youth. His journey toward redemption had been difficult, but he was determined to make amends and help others avoid the mistakes he had made. I was prouder of him than I'd ever been, and so were our parents.

Through it all, Leo and I had grown closer, our bond strengthened by the trials we had faced. Our love had been tested in ways we never could have imagined, but we'd emerged stronger, both as individuals and were together in spite of everything.

Tonight, I was rooting for Leo. This was one of the most important games of the season and the excitement in the arena was palpable. The Warlords were giving it their all, but despite their best efforts, when the final buzzer sounded, the opposing team emerged victorious.

I watched as Leo and his teammates lined up to shake hands with their opponents, the gesture of sportsmanship and respect that players performed at the end of every game. As the skaters made their way off the ice, one of the media reporters handed Leo a microphone. The TV cameras zoomed in on him, and I sensed that something important was about to happen.

Leo took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the stands until they found mine. I felt my heart skip a beat as he began to speak.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Leo"s voice echoed through the arena, "I want to congratulate the Avalanche on their well-deserved victory tonight. We played our best, but they were the better team. Sports is about fair play, and tonight, we lost fair and square."

The crowd murmured in approval, and both teams nodded in acknowledgment.

"But there"s something else I want to say," Leo continued, his eyes never leaving mine. "This past year has been one of the most challenging of my life. I faced setbacks and obstacles that I never could have overcome alone. And there"s one person who stood by me through it all, who gave me the strength and love I needed to return to the ice and come this far."

My breath caught in my throat as he spoke, his words resonating deeply.

"Emma Steele…" Leo said, his voice filled with emotion, "You are the love of my life. I couldn"t have done this without you. Your support, your belief in me, your unwavering love…it"s everything to me. And now, I want to ask you something important."

The arena fell silent as all eyes turned toward me. My heart pounded in my chest as I realized what was happening.

"Emma…" Leo's voice was steady and clear, "Will you marry me?"

Tears welled in my eyes, and I screamed, "Yes!" with every ounce of my being. The crowd erupted in cheers.

I jumped up from my seat and ran down the stadium steps. Leo skated to the edge of the rink, and I met him there and threw my arms around his neck. He wrapped me in his arms and as we held each other, the world around us seemed to fade away. It was just the two of us, united by the love that had carried us through so much. I kissed him, our lips meeting in a tender, passionate kiss.

"I love you, Leo," I whispered, my voice choked with emotion. "I can"t wait to spend the rest of my life with you."

"I love you too, baby," he replied, his chocolate brown eyes shining with happiness. "And this is just the beginning."
