Levi

L evi burst to the surface of the water. He’d been aware of his bear watching him, so he’d kept going, pushing even his limits on how long he could hold his breath.

Then he saw her.

His bear was no longer a bear. She was a female, in her human form.

She looked just as shocked as he was.

He wanted to rush toward her, and pull her into his arms, but he kept his distance. Quickly, he changed into a human too, not wanting to overwhelm her. He forced himself to stay back. “You did it,” he said.

She was even more beautiful than he’d thought, but she was eerily similar to the mental image he’d had of her. She had the same hair, the same bright eyes, and the same creamy skin. She really had sent him a picture of herself.

She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She frowned and touched her mouth.

He couldn’t stand to see her in even the smallest amount of distress. “Hey, it’s okay. I don’t know how long it’s been since you talked, but it might take some practice.” In reality, he had no clue about how long it would take. He was actually more equipped to help her if she’d been a real bear, than a shifter.

She closed her mouth and nodded.

It took every bit of willpower to stay this far from her. His dragon was pushing him, urging him to embrace her.

Mate. Mine!

Yes, he knew how his dragon felt. He ignored his dragon as much as he could. He wasn’t a barbarian.

In the end, she was the one who approached him. She swam slowly toward him. She still didn’t speak, but she moved slowly, still treading water, propelling herself forward inch by inch.

He felt his chest constrict. He hardly dared to breathe for fear of scaring her away. She didn’t stop but kept coming toward him. She reached her arm out. Her arm was slender, and her hands delicate. She brushed the tips of her fingers over his arm.

“Are you feeling okay?” he asked. He couldn’t stay quiet any longer.

She paused and looked at him, possibly taking stock of how she did feel. She nodded. She ran her arm over his chest, and his cock was instantly rock hard. He was glad the water was a deep blue, and not clear. She put her other arm on his shoulder and pulled herself all the way toward him.

Suddenly she was in his arms.

He caught her, wrapping his arms around her, holding her slight body. He tried to hold her away from his hard length, but he wasn’t sure if he succeeded.

She was his mate. There was no other explanation.

She rested her head on his shoulder.

“Hi,” she said, not moving her cheek away from his skin.

Finally . She’d spoken! He tried to collect himself. “Hello,” he said. “What’s your name?”

She lifted her head and looked right at him. “Sofia.”
