Chapter 25

Brielle

"Are your boys okay with you being here?"

The blonde female at the bar turned to me, her lipstick-covered lips set in a firm line.

In my mind, she was standing in the way of me seeing Blythe again. No matter what, I had to go through her.

Swallowing my desperation, I gave her a mocking smile. "As okay as they are with you staring at me. Is there a reason for that?"

I slipped onto the stool next to hers.

"Where are you from?" she asked, ignoring my question. "We don't get many visitors around here."

There was no reason to lie. "Hidden Creek. We're just passing through."

Her intelligent blue eyes narrowed. "I rarely see a unit willing to take their prize out of the den."

Her smirk told me she was trying to rile me up. It wasn't entirely unexpected.

"They're not mine. I beat the Hunt and joined their pack for protection," I said flippantly, knowing she wouldn't be receptive if I told her they were my mates.

Her voice was flat as concrete. "Lucky girl."

"I am. In more ways than one." I leaned an elbow on the counter. "My name's Brielle." Her eyes flickered with recognition. "I think we both know why I'm here."

She took a languid sip of her drink. "Why is that?"

"The same reason you were looking at me like you saw a ghost."

"I'm not sure what you're hunting for, honey."

"The truth." I curled my fingers into a fist to stop them from trembling. "I remember you from when I was little. You and a few males came for me and my sister. You tried to save us, but I was taken."

Her face remained impassive.

"I came here to find my sister," I said, voice cracking. "Please. Do you know where she is?"

She glanced behind me. "What will your friends do with her if I say yes?"

"Nothing." I couldn't hide my ferocity. "No one is going to hurt Blythe. I just want to see my sister again. What she does from there is her choice."

Her eyes eviscerated me. They pulled back my layers and dissected my words. A muscle in her jaw twitched.

"I'm Andy," she finally said.

Relief washed over me, nearly knocking me off my feet.

"Nice to meet you. So, do you think you can help me out?"

She slid her phone toward me. "Give me your number. I'll contact you in a couple of minutes to let you know if it's possible."

Without hesitation, I programmed my number into her phone and slid it back to her.

She picked it up and stood. "I'll see you around, Brielle."

When Andy left, I returned to my mates and reclaimed my seat.

"Well?" Ezra asked.

"She knows where Blythe is. I'm sure of it. She got my number and told me she'll contact me in a few minutes to let me know if we can meet."

Valor frowned. I didn't like how Andy had phrased things either, but what could we do? The ball was in her court. Without her, how would we find Blythe?

"Could be a trap," Valor muttered.

"It could," I admitted.

"You still want to do it, don't you?"

I held his stare. "I do."

"Then we'll make a plan," Ezra said.

"Okay," I whispered, relieved. "But first, I need to go to the bathroom."

I pushed away from the table and followed the signs on the wall. While taking care of business, I steadied my nerves. It had been so long since I'd seen Blythe. Would she remember me? Had they been good to her? Or had she experienced her own version of hell?

Would she be the same girl I'd spent my life trying to find?

I stepped out of the stall and washed my hands, imagining the water rinsing my worries down the drain. A shadow to my left caught my eye, and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. I spun on my heel, but a thick arm banded around me, intercepting the movement. My back collided with a hard chest. My hands flew up on instinct, but he was already pressing a cloth to my nose and mouth.

"Relax, dove. I won't hurt you," the male murmured.

My struggles weakened and then stopped as the world faded into darkness.
