Chapter 40

CHAPTER FORTY

FINNIGAN

This afternoon of tedious paperwork has practically bored me to tears. Club Triskelion is more than profitable enough for the five of us to go legit, but I fucking love the— as Cat so eloquently puts it— mafia crap. I enjoy breaking kneecaps and getting shot at way too much for this to ever be all there is.

My phone buzzes on the bar before me, and I lift it to find a text from an unknown number.

UNKNOWN

Hey, Finnie. I’ve got something for you.

Fuck, I hate that nickname.

I deleted all the contact details of any women I was hooking up with before Cat, but only one ever called me that horrible nickname.

Sorry, Mandy. I’m not interested.

Apparently the rumors are true because you’ve never turned down my booty calls before.

I also wasn’t texting about my pussy.

That guy you were looking for a few months ago, are you still looking for him?

The Russian?

Yeah. He’s fucking one of my waitresses, and she keeps bragging about him coming to pick her up at the end of her shift.

Fuck, yes!

“Who wants to go hit something with me?” I blurt, dropping my phone onto the bar top.

Conor’s eyes light up, and he jumps out of his seat. “Yes. Please! Anything but more of these fakeDom applications.”

“The Pakhan is going to be at The Onyx in a few hours,” I inform them as my phone buzzes again. Expecting it to be another text from Mandy, I ignore it before providing my brothers with the scant details she had given me. It vibrates against the wooden bar again, and I glance down to see two missed messages from Cat.

CATLIN

QUINN IS HAVING HER BABIES!

We are on our way to New Rochelle Memorial.

On our way.

“Change of plan.” I slide from the barstool and shove the phone into the front pocket of my pants. “Quinn is in labor. The girls are all on their way to the hospital.”

“Fuck,” Declan barks, quickly grabbing his phone and keys. “It’ll take forever to get there this time of the day.”

“I’ve got the bike,” I tell him, thankful I’m prepared as always with a spare helmet on my bike. “I can get you to New Rochelle Memorial in twenty minutes.”

“We’ll meet you there,” Tristan chimes as we rush to the door.

It doesn’t take us long to reach my bike parked out front. I throw Cat’s helmet at Declan and climb onto the bike. Turning over the engine, Declan is about to climb on when he pauses. Staring at the seat behind me, he asks, “Finn. Is that cum? Please tell me it’s not cum.”

“On my bike?” I glance over my shoulder at the stain on the seat and lie, “No. It’s not cum.”

Declan grabs my shoulder and hesitantly climbs onto the bike. I rev the engine as he fists the side of my shirt, letting the loud grumble of the bike quiet before I inform him, “It’s definitely fucking cum.”

Not giving him a chance to respond, my tires squeal against the pavement, and I laugh as we pull from the valet and into traffic. Knowing how fucking pissed he is as we weave through the slow moving cars is worth every fucking fist I take to the kidney on the journey. Pulling up to the entrance of the hospital, he shouts as the roar of the engine quiets, “You’re a fucking twat, Finn. Now I have to burn these fucking trousers.”

“Stop fucking fighting with me and go to your wife.” I smirk beneath my helmet. After finding a space to park my bike, I make my way inside and up to Labor and Delivery to find Cat sitting with my peanut on her lap. Owen is sitting a few chairs away, keeping an eye on them both.

“ Uncail Finn,” Fiona excitedly shouts. “I’m gonna be a big sister.”

“You sure are!” I croon, giving each of them a kiss on the forehead before I take the empty beside the two of them. “Where’s Layla?”

“She went downstairs with Grady and Rory to grab some coffee,” Cat informs me.

“When are you going to have a baby?” Fiona looks between me and Cat.

Thanks, peanut…

At a loss for words for the first time in my life, I stare at Cat in silence. I absolutely adore my niece, but fatherhood had never crossed my mind. The women who passed through my bed were a fleeting good time and definitely not mother material. Cat is neither of those. She’s unbelievably nurturing and sweet, amazing with Fiona, and the very last woman to ever grace my bed.

Cat gazes back at me, and I’m relieved to see her reflecting what I can only imagine is the same deer-in-the-headlights look spread across my face. Her eyes focus on my reaction as she answers Fiona, “Not for a long time, baby.”

“How come?”

“Well…” Cat struggles to find an explanation Fiona will understand. “I’m still going to school.”

Trying to quell her curiosity, I add, “We also haven’t known each other that long.”

“Yeah, but you’re gonna marry her,” Fiona chirps. “So you should just have a bunch of pretty babies, too.”

Pulling Fiona into my lap, I tickle her, huff, and whisper, “That was supposed to be a secret.”

“Not a very good one,” Cat jests. While I may not have outright asked her to be my wife— yet— she knows that she’s mine for the rest of my life. And all of eternity.

We sit in the waiting room for hours, joined by Layla and eventually the rest of my brothers. All of us doing our best to keep a quickly tiring Fiona occupied. A little shy of midnight, Declan steps into the waiting room with a tired yet elated look on his face. “They’re here.”

“Only three visitors at a time,” a nurse announces when we all rise from our seats in near unison.

Declan glances at all of us and then back at her. “Unless you want them to beat the piss out of each other over who gets to go first, you’re going to want to let them all in.”

Carrying Fiona and holding Cat’s hand, I follow my brothers down the hall to Quinn’s room. While she’s clearly exhausted, she looks absolutely radiant, lying in the hospital bed with a baby resting in each of her arms. “And this crazy lot is your family,” she coos as she stares down at them before lifting her attention to all of us. “Meet Rory and Kira.”

“I make a few jokes about whacking off to your wife and you beat the piss out of me.” I nudge Declan. “But she names her baby after the man attached to her when you aren’t around and you don’t even bat an eye.”

Rolling her eyes, Quinn says, “I named them after the man who nearly died to save my life and the woman who did.”
