Joanna
"That was exactly what I needed," I said afterward.
Theo rested his forehead against mine, grinning into my kiss. "I didn't want to wait until after the honeymoon."
"Waiting is overrated."
He pulled back gently, and then I felt empty again. "Holy shit," he muttered.
"What?"
He pointed, and I had to slide off the desk to see what he was referring to. There was a dusty outline on the floor where the table had been. Our surreptitious lovemaking had moved it almost two feet.
"Imagine how far we'd move it if you lasted longer than a few minutes," I teased.
He shot me a glare. "Are you implying that you're not satisfied with what just happened here?"
"I am not happy," I said in a deadpan tone while adjusting my bra and dress. "I got zero enjoyment out of any of that."
"That's the most obvious lie I've seen you make," Theo said. "And I've watched you lie about your relationship with Landon all weekend."
"Hey! I've been a very convincing liar."
"Exactly," Theo replied. "Which is how I know you're lying now."
"You couldn't tell based on all the screaming I was doing?"
He grinned at me. "I was making plenty of noise myself. I barely heard you."
I turned around. "Zip me back up?"
He obliged me, then wrapped his arms around me from behind. "I like you from this angle."
"I like feeling you back there," I said over my shoulder. "Perhaps we can explore this later tonight, after I sneak into your room."
"I think that's a wonderful idea," he said, brushing his lips against mine. "I wonder what the room service situation is like here."
"I'll give you something to eat," I said, pulling him into another kiss.
He smiled against my lips. "Can I have seconds?"
"If you have the appetite."
Theo made a hungry noise deep in his throat. "I could take you again right now."
"As tempting as that is, we should probably get back to the reception."
"If you insist. We should probably sneak out of here separately, so we don't attract any attention," Theo suggested.
I pulled his face down to mine and kissed him. "Just like last night. I know the routine by now."
"We're getting pretty good at this, huh?"
"And just in time for it to end. It's kind of been fun sneaking around."
He cupped my chin and tilted my head up to face him. "Yeah, but once we don't have to hide it? Then we get to really have fun together."
"I can't wait!"
Theo kissed me again, gave my ass a healthy squeeze, then opened the door and peeked outside.
I cleared my throat. "Forgetting something?"
His pants were still around his ankles, with a full condom on his dick. "What?" he asked innocently. "Is my bow tie uneven?"
"Not exactly…"
He adjusted it, then gestured down at his still-half-nude self. "Better?"
"I dare you to return to the reception exactly like that."
"Wouldn't be the first time I've danced with a condom on," he said while discreetly removing the condom and dropping it into a trash bin next to the desk.
"Seriously?"
"In middle school sex ed, they told us the only way to avoid getting STDs was to wear a condom. So I wore one underneath my clothes to every school dance."
"I hope you're joking right now."
He removed the small trash bag from the bin, tied a knot on the end, and then dumped that entire bag into the larger trash can by the door. "Better safe than sorry. Our sex ed teacher made us terrified of girls. Then I learned how much fun girls could be."
"Especially when they give you blowjobs in the bathroom?"
Theo snickered. "I've never gotten a blowjob like the one you gave me. If a girl had done that to me in middle school, I probably would have proposed on the spot!"
"Settle down," I said. "I'm already fake dating one guy at this wedding."
"I don't care who you fake date, as long as our sex is not fake." He peeked out the door again. "Speaking of pretending: are you ready to go pretend like we didn't just fuck each other's brains out in here?"
"I'm ready to try!"
Before Theo could leave, his phone rang. He closed the door and answered it.
"Hey. Yep. No, I was in the bathroom. All right, cool. Bye." He glanced at me. "That was Bradyn. They're starting the speeches."
"They?" I asked.
His eyebrows shot up. "Wait a minute. I'm giving a speech. I'm they!"
He rushed out of the room, jogging as quickly as a man could while wearing a tuxedo. A few seconds later, I followed.
The reception room was quiet with all eyes on the dance floor, where Carol was in the spotlight with a microphone. "Many of you already know me, but for those who don't, I'm Marisa's big sis."
"Where were you?" Landon asked as I slipped back into my chair at the family table.
"Nowhere. Glad I didn't miss the speeches."
He seemed suspicious. "You're sweating almost as much as Carol."
I quickly felt self-conscious that Landon had noticed, but he wasn't looking at me anymore. I followed his gaze to Marisa's sister out on the dance floor. Sweat was rolling down her temple.
"And her first boyfriend," Carol was saying, "back in sixth grade. Or fifth. He was such a bad boyfriend for her. After they broke up, she told me, Carol, I never want to settle. I want to find my Prince Charming and never let him go." Carol was sniffling, but powered through. "And now here you are. With your very own Prince." She paused to wipe her eyes. "Little sis. I'm just so happy…"
One of the groomsmen handed her a tissue, and she devolved into a weeping mess. Once the flood gates were open, it was clear she wouldn't recover. She gave an embarrassed wave, then handed the microphone off to the DJ.
"That was hardly a speech," Clark muttered. "Someone should get up and say some more."
Suddenly, Danicka whirled to face me. "You should do it!"
It took me a few seconds to realize she was talking to me.
"What?" I stammered. "I barely know her. I can't…"
But Danicka was grabbing my arm and escorting me up to the dance floor. She took the microphone from the DJ and said, "The sister of the bride is understandably emotional today. So here's Joanna to say a little something!"
She shoved the mic in my hands and hurried back to her chair to sit down. Then I was standing underneath the bright lights in front of the entire wedding reception.
All alone.
