Chapter 13
THIRTEEN
R ex leaned back in his office chair, a satisfied smile playing on his lips as he finalized the details for the perfect overnight date with Kira. His heart raced with anticipation, imagining her reactions to the surprises he had in store. This was his chance to show her the depth of his feelings, to prove that he was more than just a commanding alpha—he could be the man she needed, the one who would cherish and adore her.
With a deep breath, Rex picked up his phone and dialed Kira’s number. She answered on the second ring, her voice warm and slightly curious. “Rex, what’s up?”
“Pack a bag for the weekend and bring your passport,” he said, his tone playful yet firm. “I’ve got a surprise for you.”
Kira laughed, the sound sending a thrill through his body. “I can’t just drop everything and go away for the weekend, Rex. I have work to do.”
“It’s taken care of,” Rex assured her, his smile widening. “I spoke to Maggie, and she’s very excited for you to go with me. Besides, all’s fair in love and war, right?”
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Rex could almost see Kira’s mind working, weighing her options. Finally, she sighed, a hint of amusement in her voice. “Fine, you win. When do we leave?”
“I’ll pick you up in an hour,” Rex said, his heart soaring with triumph. “And Kira? Dress comfortably.”
An hour later, Rex stood at Kira’s door, his anticipation building with each passing second. When she opened the door, he grinned and said, “Grab your passport and my hand. I can make good girls bad for the weekend.”
Kira laughed, shaking her head as she stepped out, her overnight bag slung over her shoulder. “I’m not sure if I should be excited or worried,” she teased, taking his hand.
As they settled into their seats on Rex’s private jet, Kira’s curiosity got the better of her. “So, where are we going?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Rex chuckled, enjoying the suspense. “It’s a surprise, remember? You’ll find out soon enough.”
The flight to Vancouver was filled with easy conversation and stolen glances, the attraction between them simmering just beneath the surface. When they finally arrived at the Four Seasons, Kira’s eyes widened at the opulence of the penthouse suite.
“Rex, this is... incredible,” she breathed, taking in the stunning view of the city skyline.
“Just wait until you see what’s in the bedroom,” Rex said, his voice low and filled with promise.
Kira raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. “Oh? And what might that be?”
Rex led her to the bedroom, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched her reaction. Kira gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as she took in the sight of the lilac Versace crystal-embroidered bodysuit, matching mini skirt, blazer, and glitter knee-high boots laid out on the bed.
“No. Shut up. You’re kidding,” Kira said, her voice filled with disbelief. “Are you pranking me? Is this a joke?”
Rex laughed, shaking his head. “It’s not a joke, Kira. We’re going to see Taylor Swift in concert tonight.”
Kira screamed with joy, launching herself into Rex’s arms. He caught her, spinning her around as he savored the feeling of her body pressed against his. “I can’t believe you did this,” she said, her eyes shining with happiness.
“I’d do anything to see you smile like that,” Rex murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
As they sat in the dimly lit, upscale restaurant, the soft glow of candles casting a warm ambiance over their table, Kira spoke about her love for Taylor Swift. Rex watched her, captivated by the way her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she shared her stories.
“It’s all Maggie’s fault, really,” Kira said with a laugh, her fingers absently playing with the stem of her wine glass. “She was obsessed with Taylor’s music and would constantly play it at home. At first, I resisted, but eventually, I found myself humming along to the catchy tunes.”
Rex leaned in, his eyes never leaving Kira’s face. “And now? Which albums have captured your heart?”
Kira smiled, a wistful expression on her face. “1989 and Lover, without a doubt. There’s just something about the way Taylor captures the essence of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery in those albums that resonates with me.”
“Do you have any all-time favorite songs?” Rex asked, genuinely interested in learning more about the woman who had stolen his heart.
“Oh, absolutely!” Kira exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. “Lover, Bad Blood, Shake it Off, and Blank Space are my go-to songs when I need a pick-me-up or just want to sing along at the top of my lungs.”
Rex chuckled, imagining Kira dancing around her apartment, belting out the lyrics. He committed every detail of this moment to memory, from the way her hair fell softly around her face to the melodic sound of her laughter. He wanted to know everything about her, to unravel the mysteries of her heart and soul, layer by layer.
As they finished their meal, Rex couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for the concert ahead. He had pulled out all the stops, securing VIP front-row seats to ensure they would have the best possible experience.
When they arrived at the venue, the energy was electric. Fans buzzed with excitement, their chatter filling the air. Kira practically vibrated with enthusiasm, her eyes wide as she took in the scene.
Rex led her to their seats, his hand resting gently on the small of her back. Before the concert started, he reached into his pocket and pulled out several friendship bracelets, each one adorned with glittering charms.
“Here,” he said, taking Kira’s wrist and carefully fastening the bracelets around it. “I thought these would be a fun addition to your concert outfit.”
Kira watched him, a mixture of surprise and amusement on her face. As he finished securing the bracelets, she glanced down at his own wrist, noticing the matching set he wore.
“Rex Stone, I never took you for a guy who’d wear friendship bracelets,” she teased, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
Rex looked up at her, his gaze intense and sincere. “For you, Kira, I’ll do anything,” he said, his voice low.
He watched Kira’s pupils dilate and her breath catch. He even heard her heart beating faster. She reached out, her fingers intertwining with his as she leaned in close.
“Thank you,” she whispered, her lips brushing against his cheek. “This has to be one of the most special things anyone’s ever done for me. Sharing it with you is priceless.”
Rex turned his head, capturing her lips in a gentle kiss. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” he murmured against her mouth.
As the opening notes of the first song filled the arena, Kira came alive, her body moving to the beat, her voice joining thousands of others as she sang along with unbridled joy. Rex watched her, transfixed by the sight of her so free and uninhibited, her happiness radiating from every pore.
The lights danced across the stage, a kaleidoscope of colors painting Kira’s face in a mesmerizing display. Her hair, now adorned with a glittering hairpiece she had bought at the merchandise stand, sparkled under the shifting hues. Rex couldn’t take his eyes off her, his heart swelling with a mixture of adoration and contentment.
As the setlist progressed, Kira’s enthusiasm only grew. She belted out the lyrics to every song, her voice clear and strong, filled with the raw emotion that each tune evoked. Rex found himself swept up in her joy, their bodies moving in sync with the pulsing rhythm.
Then, as the opening notes of “Lover” filled the air, Kira turned to face him, her eyes locking with his. The world around them faded away, the crowds and the noise melting into the background until it was just the two of them, lost in the intimacy of the moment.
Kira’s voice, soft and tender, carried the lyrics straight to Rex’s heart. “Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?” she sang, her hand reaching out to caress his cheek.
Rex’s breath caught in his throat, his heart tripping over itself as he leaned into her touch. The depth of emotion in her eyes, the way her voice wrapped around the words, spoke volumes about the growing connection between them.
He pulled her close, his arms encircling her waist as they swayed to the music. Kira’s head rested on his chest, her hair tickling his chin as she continued to sing, her voice muffled against his shirt. “You’re my, my, my…lover.”
In that moment with Kira in his arms and the melody of “Lover” surrounding them, Rex knew with absolute certainty that he would move heaven and earth to keep her by his side. He would brave any storm, overcome any obstacle, just to see her smile, to hear her laugh, to bask in the warmth of her presence.
As the song drew to a close, Rex tilted Kira’s chin up, his eyes searching hers. He lowered his lips to hers, pouring every ounce of his feelings into the kiss.
Kira melted into him, her arms winding around his neck as she returned the kiss with equal fervor. The world around them ceased to exist, the music fading into the background as they lost themselves in each other.
When they finally broke apart, breathless and flushed, Rex rested his forehead against Kira’s, a smile playing on his lips. “I never thought I’d enjoy a concert this much.”
“Me neither.”
As the concert continued, Rex and Kira remained wrapped in each other’s arms.
