Chapter 46
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
Cam’s heart pounded as Dare’s SUV screeched to a halt in front of Kinley’s house. Dare jumped out, his hand hovering near his gun. “I’ve got the back.”
With that, Dare took off around the side of the house. Cam sprinted up the front porch steps, the wooden boards creaking under his weight. He hesitated for a brief second before peering through the window, his breath catching in his throat at the sight that greeted him. Kinley lay motionless on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood.
Oh, God, no. Not Kinley.
His heart flipped over in his chest as he pushed the door open and rushed inside, skidding to his knees beside her. His hands trembled as his fingers pressed against her neck, searching for a pulse. There it was—faint and thready, but it gave him a small measure of relief.
“Stay with me, sweetheart,” he whispered, his voice cracking on the words. He loved her so much, and the thought of losing her, never getting to tell her how he truly felt, was unbearable.
A gash in her forehead oozed blood, and it pooled on the floor around her. Grabbing up a blanket from the nearby couch, he pressed it against the wound, doing his best to staunch the bleeding. He needed to call for medical help, but first he had to make sure Ainsley was safe. He tore himself away from Kinley, fury turning his blood to fire as he stumbled to his feet and stalked through the house.
He was going to find whoever had done this, and there was going to be hell to pay…
