15. Lucas

Chapter 15

Lucas

I'm not sure why, but I feel more awake and less groggy than usual today. I'd expected to be exhausted and need at least one nap before lunch after how late we stayed up last night, but so far, I've been wide awake. Something about spending so much time around Oliver has left me feeling more invigorated than usual.

At least that was until Sebastian came storming into the dining hall and looked at us like we'd just eaten the last of the Christmas waffles. His aggression was so palpable I could feel the hair on my neck beginning to rise in response. My wolf was all ready for a fight before Roman swung by and steered Seb away from us and out of the dining hall.

But it still had me on high alert.

Not because I was scared of Seb, but because I wanted to protect Oliver. I'd never felt such a strong attachment to someone so quickly. There had been that tugging in the back of my mind, my thoughts wandering back to the omega we'd captured even when he was nowhere near. But now, after last night, I can't deny the sensation in the very core of my being.

I need to be with him. I need to spend as much time with him for as long as possible. He's all that matters to me anymore. And as far as Theo is concerned, I honestly hadn't anticipated him becoming a part of this scenario, but after what the three of us had shared last night, I feel a kinship with Theo that runs deeper than our friendship did before. We're not just friends; we're connected by our shared bond with Oliver.

I can trust Theo to have my back when it comes to Oliver.

Which is not something I ever thought I'd say about the biggest playboy in the pack. But, to his credit, Theo isn't known for being the kind of guy who sticks around after a night of passion. According to him, waking up next to a fling is just a recipe for disaster. He's a master of one-night stands and the intricacies of broken hearts. The fact that he'd broken his own rule and not only stayed the entire night but hasn't left Oliver's side all morning is pretty damning evidence.

Theo somehow caught feelings.

The three of us are in the middle of breakfast when Oliver suddenly bolts up out of his chair.

"Can you guys wait for me? There's something I need to do," he says without looking at either of us.

"Maybe we can help?" Theo suggests quickly. "Whatever it is, I'm sure we can offer some assistance."

"No, this is something I need to do on my own." Oliver looks at each of us with a soft smile. "But if you guys wanted to meet me back at my cabin later?"

Theo and I share a brief look. We're clearly thinking the same thing.

"Yeah, sounds like a plan," I say and nod.

"Great, I'll see you guys later then." Oliver smiles brightly and gives each of us a quick kiss on the cheek before he darts out of the dining hall and out of sight.

"So…" Theo turns to me once Oliver has gone. "What are we supposed to do now?"

I shrug. "Take a nap?"

"It's barely ten in the morning, Lucas." Theo scoffs.

"Well, I don't know." I sigh. "Besides, I'm worn out after last night."

"About that…" Theo frowns a little, looking away from me.

"Is there a problem?"

"No." He shakes his head. "I mean, it's not exactly the first time I've been in a threesome. I just wanted to make sure this won't make things awkward between you and me."

"What?" I raise an eyebrow, surprised by his admission. "Why would it be weird?"

"Because we're best friends and we shared a partner," he explains. "And we haven't done anything like that before. Plus, I don't know. There's something about Oliver that makes me feel like…" He shakes his head as if at a loss for words. "Never mind, I'm being stupid."

"No, you're not," I insist. "I get what you mean. This isn't like any other omega we've met. He's special. Maybe even special enough that…we both want the same thing with him."

"Is that a problem?" Theo asks carefully.

"Not to me," I say as he looks at me directly. "I trust you. I know you're not going to pull anything. And even if we both had a chance at mating him, we're both better off together. He'd be better off with both of us. Wouldn't you say?"

"Absolutely." Theo agrees with a firm nod. "I'm just worried he might not see things the same way."

"He was the one that invited both of us into his cabin last night," I remind him. "Something tells me he already sees things that way."
