Chapter 27
Twenty-Seven
CALEB
" I wonder what Jade is thinking now," said Bruce, washing the dishes.
"It's been a day now, and she didn't call or anything," I said, pouring myself a cup of coffee. "I'm prepared to buy a bunch of flowers and return to her parent's house. Is that a good idea?"
"Dude, aren't you going to give up?" asked Nick while flipping through the channels on the TV. "It was embarrassing enough going there the first time. You broke her heart, and now you need to live with it."
"I'm glad he's going again," said Dravin, stretching as he made his way to the living room. "I miss Jade."
"We all do," said Bruce.
"I'm not giving up," I said.
There was no way I was going to give her up that easily. We had a misunderstanding, and that was all. I vowed to win her heart again, whatever it took until she was sick of me. I waited all morning for a call or text. I would provide her with the best life there was, and her fathers would have no need to worry about their daughter.
Suddenly there was frantic knocking at the door.
"Who the hell is that?" said Nick, pulling the door open aggressively. "Caleb, it's your mom."
What?
She had never stepped foot in my house before. It must be something important. Abandoning my coffee in the kitchen, I strode towards the door in long strides. My mother rushed inside with tears streaming down her face, more haggard than ever before.
Was it another breakdown?
"Ma, what's wrong?" I asked, trying to stabilize her wobbly body with a hand on her elbow.
"I did something…very bad," she said tearfully, sniffling loudly through her nose.
"What did you do? Come sit down," I guided her over to the sofa, and she perched on the edge of it, refusing to relax. It was probably another one of her delusions.
"The demon was torturing my mind, following me," she started, not making sense as usual. "I had to give him an omega so he could leave me alone."
Alarm bells rang in my head. Did she do some ritualistic sacrifice or something?
"What exactly did you do, Ma?" I asked, sounding as calm as possible.
"I gave him your omega, and now I'm wracked with guilt," she said, her words tumbling over each other in her rush.
"What does she mean by that?" Dravin growled, coming to stand next to my mom.
"She's trapped in the guesthouse with the Shadow Wolf ," she said. "There's no way she can ever leave."
"What the fuck?" said Nick.
"Bruce, keep an eye on my mom," I shouted. "Dravin and Nick, come with me."
"Son, there's no way out for her. He's powerful, and if you take her away from him, he will take revenge," my mom shouted as I ran to the door.
My pulse raced in fear at what my mom could have done.
I needed to get to Jade. She wasn't the Shadow Wolf's. She didn't belong to any other alpha but me. The rain pelted at my face as I ran outside, soaking my hair.
"Jade!" shouted Dravin, knocking on the door furiously.
No sound. Nothing came from the house.
