Chapter 33

JAX

“You’ve been studying for hours,”I say as I stand behind Mila.

She looks up from her textbook. “Can you believe they’re going to have a baby?”

“Can’t stop thinking about it…?”

“It’s just… wow.”

I grab the arms of Mila’s chair and pick it up.

“Jax!”

I walk her across the room and plop the chair down on the floor, then walk around the chair to face her.

She looks up at me. “What?”

“Willow is pregnant. Deal with it.”

“It just seems so…”

“Intense,” I say. “And it’s weird that you’ve been involved in some sort of way too. So just say it.”

“Is it wrong?”

“Not at all,” I say. I lean down closer to her. “Mila. Say what’s on your mind. That’s how this thing works between us. You know that. Say it.”

“Willow,” she whispers. “I thought she and I were going to have issues. Tension and all that, you know? Everything that happened with her brother and all.”

“No offense, but you’re inserting yourself into her business and life.”

“I know!” Mila cries out. “What is wrong with me?”

I kiss her forehead. “Maybe you just care way too much.”

I start to inch back and Mila grabs my shirt. “Serious thought, Jax.”

“What?”

“Knox. Is he a good guy?”

“Define that.”

“You know what I’m talking about. Willow has a lot going on in her life.”

“You’re wondering if Knox is going to be a good father or not.”

Mila nods.

“I can’t predict what anyone will do,” I whisper. “You know that. Look at Gabriel’s father. Everyone thought he was such a good guy.”

“That makes me nervous.”

“Can I give you some advice?”

“Sure,” she says.

“Instead of worrying about all this stuff, just be there for Willow. All the bullshit aside. Be there for her. That would mean more than anything else. Can you imagine what must be going through her head right now? Same for Knox. They probably have a million medical questions. And maybe they can ask you things…”

“That makes sense, Jax.”

“I know it does. And if you think anything to do with Willow bothers me…? Stop. I’m not that kind of guy. Plus, Willow is like a sister to me. You don’t think I’m worried about her? I am. But it’s her life. Her decision. As far as Knox goes, as long as I’m around the guy, if he acts like a douche, I’ll straighten him out.”

“You know, it could have been you,” Mila says. “Like, what if you and Willow hooked up and-”

“Are you really thinking that right now?”

“No. Maybe. I need to stop studying. I have my brain turned to mush. I can’t believe I just said that to you.”

I lean down and playfully smell Mila’s neck. “Ew. You smell bad. You need a shower.”

Mila slaps at me. “What? Are you serious?”

I laugh and then I scoop her up out of the chair.

She wraps her legs around me.

“I only worry because I care,” she says.

“I know that, Mila. I love you for it. But just take my advice on this one. Be there. That’s all we can do. Things happen in life.”

“They’re going to have a baby.”

“Yeah, they are. A little hockey baby.”

Mila shakes her head. “I feel like life is happening so fast anymore.”

“I think that’s what it’s supposed to do. Now… am I going to get you in the shower or are we going to stand here and talk about other people?”

“I do have a lot more studying to do,” Mila says.

“You’re prepping for med school,” I say. “You need all the anatomy lessons you can get. I’ll be your patient.”

“What’s your ailment?”

I smile.

“My cock is hard, throbbing, and I need you to examine it… touch it… stroke it…”
