CHAPTER 6
Sam
I’d seen more of Thomas Schmidt Cross’s security advisor than I’d like. He hung around the office, giving off a menacing vibe. I’m no expert, but he looked more like an accountant than an advisor. His approach to security was also a little odd, too.
What was it they say about ease-dropping that you hear nothing good about yourself? Same could be said of listening to other’s thoughts. Ever since I caught that loose thought from that security ass-ociate of Mervin’s. I’d been stressed.
How did I get dragged into this mess?I just wanted a new start, a chance to make something of myself. I wasn’t looking to get dragged into some weird ass shit. But I just couldn’t sit back while Mervin Cross messed with Eammon. The guy didn’t deserve it. And Mervin’s attitude was pissing me off. Decision made. I lowered my mental walls; and focused on Thomas, the security advisor again.
Images flashed through my head, like freeze frame photos, one after the other. I saw CIS’s office downtown, a network file, then I saw Jack accessing the file…But there was more. I saw cost summaries, false numbers, and lies.
Oh fuck.
