EPILOGUE

Jack

Several weeks later

My life was starting to get back to normal. Both the DA and the bureau’s audit team had interviewed me. The evidence I found about my parents’ murder and Cross’s ponzi scheme was driving the financial ombudsmen crazy. The demise of both Mervin Cross and CIS caused a major financial incident. So many people had trusted Cross’s investments to grow their savings, only to find out that their money was gone. Mervin’s assets had been seized and forensic accountants were hot on the case searching for hidden bank accounts. But the news wasn’t looking good. Political campaigns weren’t cheap, Mervin’s lifestyle wasn’t either.

There’s a lot of very unhappy people out there. The cops were interested in pressing charges, only to find out that justice had already been served. People were talking a lot about boundaries being crossed. But who’s going to argue with Lucifer, the Prince of Hell?

The poor guy was trying his best to bury his sorrows. It’s not every day you find your fated mate after centuries of searching. Only to find out that he’s one of the bad guys. We had all gathered together at Ryan’s cottage to both celebrate our win and comfort our new friend.

“Is there any more cake?” Karriel asked walking into the kitchen.

“I think there are some donuts left. Somewhere.”

“Perfect Luci is comfort eating enough for the rest of us.”

“Did you think Luci would ever find his mate?”

“Hell no, I didn’t think I’d find mine either, or Mammon, not after all this time. Talking of mates, have you decided what you’re going to do for your wedding?”

“We’ve realized the only way to get what we want is to not include the Nans.”

Karriel made a grimace face. “Ooooo.”

“Yep.”

“It was nice knowing you. I’ll send flowers.”

“Haha, sure they’ll be a little upset, but I don’t think they’ll actually kill us.”

Karriel still didn’t look convinced.

“It’ll be fine. We have a plan. We’re going on a cruise and getting married on-board. What can go wrong?”

“Good luck. You’re going to need it.”

The End
