Chapter thirty-one

Session Transcript May 1

Dr. Liu: Sounds like you had a very productive weekend.

Caleb: I feel really good about it. But I wanted to ask you something. Is she making progress in therapy? I know our joint sessions are getting better and all that. Individually, though, is Kelsey doing okay? Or is she faking it?

Dr. Liu: Are you faking it, Caleb?

Caleb: No. I. What? What could I even possibly be faking?

Dr. Liu: How are things with Juliette? You two had such a tumultuous beginning and now I never hear about her.

Caleb: Everything is—this is kind of out of left field, don't you think?— Anyway, everything is fine with Juliette. We divided up the tasks and we just do our jobs. What do you mean you haven't heard about her? Kelsey and I talk about her all the time. There's no reason for me to talk about her. She's not—she's a—she's really friendly now and really wants us to do better, me and Kelsey. She's nice to me because of Kelsey and vice versa. She's actually really cool. You don't hear about her because we don't fight anymore.

Dr. Liu: How do you think she is going to surrender Kelsey at the end of this?

Caleb: I know you think it was a mistake, and it's too messy of a situation.

Dr. Liu: I never said that. I did express my concerns about the arrangement.

Caleb: There's no reason to be concerned, though. It's all working out. When Kelsey is ready, Juliette will be, too. She and I already talked about it. She told me she used to see you for infertility. I can see you connecting the dots, but it's not like that. Ask her yourself.

Dr. Liu: She told you about that?
