29. Dom
"Dom? Is everything okay?" Thea asks, looking worried as she steps out of the auditorium into the warm Kentucky air just outside of the building.
I knew she had something going on at the college today, but I didn't realize it was an all-day seminar. The main office directed me to the correct building. I went inside and looked around like an idiot. Luckily, my girl spotted me pretty quick and followed me out.
"You forgot your phone," I explain. "I didn't want you to be without it all day. You might have needed me."
Her face gets soft, and she steps into me, leaning up to place a kiss along the side of my jawline. "Who knew you could be so thoughtful?"
"It wasn't completely because of that. I also wanted to see you again."
"Is that a fact?" she practically giggles.
"Yeah. You're very addicting. I don't like being away from you." She might think I'm joking, but I'm not at all.
"Good, because I'm feeling the same about you," she purrs close to my ear. She wraps her arms around me. I kiss her forehead, returning the embrace.
"You keep this up, sweetheart, and you're going to miss the lecture because I'm going to take you with me today."
"What would we do?"
I grin down at her. "Does that mean you're willing to skip school and go with me?"
She lets out a sigh of disappointment. "I can't. Our test next week revolves around this lecture. I need a good grade."
"Then I better let you get back to it," I respond regretfully. I reach into my back pocket and take out her new phone. She frowns as she takes it from me.
"This isn't my phone. I mean, it's newer, but it's not mine."
"Nope, but this one is under the club's name. I don't want your dumbass ex hunting down your new number again."
"My new… my ex?"
"Your phone rang this morning, and I would have ignored it, but I saw the caller ID. I answered, thinking I'd lay the law down to him. Got to tell you, baby, I'm not much on some motherfucker threatening you. I think this asshole needs to be taught a lesson."
"Dom, his family is pretty connected in New York. I don't want any trouble. He'll forget about me soon enough."
"I figure this clown doesn't have many brains because he treated you like shit instead of like the queen you are. Still, even some pencil dick with shit for brains would have trouble trying to forget you, sweetheart. I think you're being overly optimistic here."
She surprises me by laughing. "Who would have thought a man could give a speech using the term shit for brains and talk about my ex, yet still make it romantic?"
"I'm a man of many talents," I brag, and she shakes her head.
"That you are. Thanks for my new phone."
"Anytime, sweetheart. Now give me those lips. I have things I have to do this morning and I'm running behind."
"Like what?"
"I'm going to get tested so I can have my woman without a damn rubber. Then, I have a surprise that I'm trying to line up for you."
"A surprise?"
"Yep. So, hurry and give me those lips, then get your pretty ass back in your class before I pull you behind the building and spank it while I'm fucking you."
Her eyes dilate noticeably. A minute shiver rolls through her body and as I watch, my gaze immediately zeros in on her breasts. Her nipples are so hard that they are poking against her T-shirt. My lips lift into a smile. "You like that idea, Gorgeous? You want me to press you up against the building, take you from behind, spanking your ass while I'm thrusting deep inside your tight cunt?"
"Dom…"
My name comes out with a whimper, hunger threaded through it. I pull her in close to me, taking in her scent and trying to hold on to sanity. Looking up, I try to find the strength to pull away from her when my gaze fixates on something. No, not something, but someone. I tense as I see a man across the street from where Thea and I are standing. He's staring right at me and the hate on his face is clear to read—even from this distance. It's King. "Motherfucker," I hiss.
"Dom? What's wrong?"
"A member of T's club is here unannounced," I mutter.
She turns to look, humming under her breath. "Is that the guy who donated blood to T?"
"Yeah. I need to go see why he's here."
"I'm sure it's fine. He saved T, for goodness' sake."
"He still should have let the club know he was going to be in the area. I'll go talk to him, you go inside, okay Gorgeous?"
"I'm not leaving you out here alone. What if something happens?"
"My fierce warrior. Breaker's right. Champ fits you much better as a club name. You're a fucking badass, Thea Kane."
"Nice of you to notice, Dominic West."
"Hmm…"
"What?" she asks.
"I was just thinking that sounds a lot better coming out of your mouth than Dom the dick did."
She giggles so hard she snorts and even with King across the street, I find myself laughing. I kiss her quickly after I finally control myself. "I know you don't want to, but go inside for me, please? I'll be fine. Once I"m finished, I"ll send you a text. King isn't stupid. He's not going to start shit in Savage Brothers' territory."
"I'll go back in," she mumbles with a sigh.
"Good girl," I praise, only for her to slap me gently in the gut.
"I'm only going because you said please. I'm also going to tell all your brothers that I made you beg."
"Woman, you have no idea just how easily you could make me beg."
"We may have to find that out later," she laughs and then, with a quick kiss, she goes back inside.
I shake my head, wondering how I can feel so happy when a man I hate is standing in my territory, staring at me as if daring me to kick his ass. I rub the back of my neck and walk over to the asshole—already knowing I'm not going to like how this goes.
"This is a surprise."
I cross my arms at my chest and wait. King is now on his bike and he's staring at me with a look that I'd take great pleasure in knocking off his face.
"Is it?" the bastard asks.
King is a big man. He's closer to the size of Breaker than my own. His skin is a darker brown than mine, and he has tattoos and scars riddled over his arms. He's wearing a black cut like mine, but it has a club patch and name for the Demon Chasers. Lame-ass name, if you ask me.
"Ford forget to tell you that you're supposed to ask permission when you come into another club's territory when you're not allies?"
The fucker laughs. "You seem to be behind on the times, D."
"It's Dom," I correct.
"Or Ice, right? I mean, the club thought enough of you to actually give you a club name. Too bad they didn't bother with your brother."
"Is there a point to this shit?" I growl.
"Just pointing out that in my eyes, you aren't worth shit. You're just an asshole who thought nothing of betraying his brother and didn't bother looking out for him."
King's words burn in my stomach. Partly because some of it is true. I didn't think about T not having a club name. In my defense, we all grew up together and his name was shortened to T. That's just who everyone recognized him as. It's much the same with me. Sure, they gave me the club name Ice. I got the nickname because Breaker used to say I had ice water running through my veins because I'd wait until the last minute to react, even when my life was on the line. I laughed and told him we called him Breaker because he was like a bull in a china shop and would break anything he came in contact with because he was so damn huge and bulky.
"You know jack-shit about anything to do with my brother."
"Maybe you're right. Although, I do know something you don't."
"What's that?" I ask.
"Go ask your dear old dad why I'm in your neighborhood, kid. Better yet, ask him why he didn't feel it necessary to tell you," King taunts. Then, the bastard starts his bike and peels out. I'm left standing here knowing that my father is keeping shit from me—important shit.
I pull out my phone as I go to where I have my bike parked. Texting Thea, I let her know I'm fine with a promise I'll see her at Breaker's when she gets home. Then I call my asshole father and tell him I need to speak to him. I've had enough of this bullshit.
More than enough.
