Chapter 37

Chapter Thirty-Seven

LUCAS

I was the last one to enter the room and the most confused about Ronan's outburst since I was further behind and didn't hear what he did. But that also meant I saw what he and the other guys didn't.

A sign beside the door that reads, Surveillance Room.

So when Elliott falls to his knees and Casey gasps at the sight of Freya on the surveillance monitor, I'm not surprised. They were so excited to hear even the slightest hint of our girl's voice that they didn't pick up on the tech quality of it through the speakers.

When my brother reaches out to touch Freya's cheek on the screen, his finger covers the entirety of her face.

"We have to go," I murmur, but nobody hears me.

Through the bond with Freya, I could have told them she wasn't this close to us. She's far, weak, and not reaching out for us. Surely, I would have felt my omega if she had truly been on the other side of this door.

"Kate," Beckett breathes right before his eyes widen and he lunges for the computers. "KATE!"

Casey sputters next, watching Ken enter the room the girls are being kept in. His horrid voice and death-sentencing words make my hands shake with fury.

How dare he talk to my omega like that?!

Who is he to blame our escape on my sweet girl who has done absolutely nothing wrong?!

I jolt, the urge to get closer to the screen riding me heard when Freya lets loose an ear shattering screech. Over Ronan's vibrating shoulder, I see an enforcer grab her hair and yank her from her cell while another holds her hands behind her back.

"FUCK!" Beckett roars, tossing keyboards and mouse pads to the ground.

We witness a few seconds of the girls trying to fight the bigger men off, but my flash of pride for my fierce omega turns to ash when they disappear from view.

Ronan is the first of our pack to snap. "Where are they?!"

Urgency makes my nerves fucking itch. It's something I've never experienced, but it's real. It's so goddamn real that it scares me shitless. "We have to go! NOW!"

I'm out the door and rushing past agents grouped in the hallway like the hounds of hell are on my heels and not my pack mates.

My frantic forward motion comes to a painful halt at the back of the guy that looks like Remy's dad.

"Sir!" I gasp, not knowing what to say except, "We have to go! They aren't here!"

The agent with dark hair and perfectly buzzed beard searches my face after righting himself. "Call me Mr. Peters."

"Sure, whatever. The girls, our mates, Freya, she's not here. They have her at a different location!"

Mr. Peters flicks his gaze over my shoulder for a beat. "Son, I'm gonna need you to calm down first. You need medical attention."

"Dad," Remy interjects. "My mate, she's with them. We have to find her."

His dad narrows his eyes strategically on all of us. Beckett, Nick, and my pack all seriously look like shit, but it's about to get a whole lot worse if we don't rescue our omegas.

I know the man is about to say no when he makes eye contact with the woman beside him. Then absolutely nothing matters anymore. Not the thump of my heartbeat or the blood pumping through my veins because I'm no longer here.

I'm crashing through lush green trees, over streams, and slamming into a galaxy of blue orbs. Surrounded by life altering fear and desperation, my soul melds with Freya's.

' LUCAS! LUKE HELP!'

The bond is a crackling, sparkly blue that twines around my very essence and creates an overwhelming need to be with her.

' LUCAS, PLEASE! Please, please, please!'

Drowning in everything that is my omega, I can't grasp how to respond, especially when an image of Ken slamming double doors makes my chest constrict with a deep-rooted ache to breathe.

Cursing and shouting funnel through in muffled waves until I'm blinking rapidly and watching my tears drip to the ground beneath me. Wheezing sounds next, but the fire in my chest with each breath tells me it's coming from me.

"Jesus Christ," Ronan huffs, kneeling next to me where I'm on my hands and knees.

"It—" I choke a little. "It was her. Freya . She's reaching out to me. They're with Ken. In a truck. Fuck!"

My omega's fear in my veins is like throwing a hurricane on top of a fucking tsunami. I steel my gaze and make eye contact with Mr. Peters.

"We're going. I can help. I have her, she will lead us to her, I know it," I declare with conviction, holding onto my mate in our bond as tight as I possibly can.

' I'm reaching now, Lucas... please.'

Remy's dad must read something on my distracted gaze because of Freya's continued pleading in my head. He nods, then the dark-haired woman beside him demands we get checked over in the truck by an agent who will ride along while we hunt these fuckers down.

I nod, not giving a shit, as long as we get fucking going.

They can poke and prod at me, but all my attention and focus will stay on Freya and getting her where she belongs.

In my arms where I'm never, ever , letting her go.
