Chapter 61
"We missed dinner."Bredon's breath tickled my ear.
I was in that sweet place between being fully awake and asleep. My body was relaxed, and my mind calm.
Bredon smoothed my hair back from my face. "You do not care."
"I care that you are hungry." My voice was hoarse. "Although, this is nice." I scooted a little closer to his warm body. Bredon had helped me for two hours, and then we'd agreed to a shower to get rid of the dust from our bodies, which had led to shower sex, which had led to another round in our bed. That was why I was tired and hoarse.
His chuckle rumbled in his chest.
"I can arrange a delivery since you need sustenance," I offered.
"Rest. I'll be fine."
I fell into a deep sleep.
I knew I wasn't awake; however, I was aware.
"Daughter." The voice made my chest vibrate. It wasn't loud, but it was powerful.
I forced my eyes open. I saw nothing except a milky-white fog.
"Hear me."
The muscles in my thighs jumped at the sound of the voice. "I do."
"I did not summon your mate. He would ask too many questions. You will be silent and listen."
Suddenly, I missed Bredon. I had grown to depend on his strength. "Where am I?" I didn't feel unsafe. It was more that I felt unsure.
"The Novus witch calls it dream walking."
I didn't know that person.
"During your rest, I can summon you to my plane."
Adrenaline surged, and my heart began to pound in my chest. "How may I serve you, Goddess." This was not a dream. Fuck, this was real.
"You are learning." The voice sounded pleased. "Your effort is noted."
My body wasn't vibrating with the voice any longer.
"Your immediate path will not be easy. You must trust in your mate and me."
"All right." I felt I had to agree. I couldn't very well argue with a voice.
"Pain is temporary. Violence initiates change. Remember that."
Those two points did not sound like good news for my future.
The next thing I knew, I felt the Bredon get out of bed. "What time is it?"
"Seven."
"You must be starving." I began to sit up.
"I am fine." He loosened his hold.
That was good. Some wolves were horrible when they were hungry. "I want a shower, and then, I need to tell you about my…I guess you could call it a dream."
He followed me into the bathroom. "If you were frightened by a bad dream, why didn't you wake me?"
I turned on the hot water. "Let me get my thoughts in order, and then, you will see."
Sig joined us as we were halfway through breakfast. "I do not like this."
"Which part?" I challenged.
"That you are hearing voices."
"Don't put it like that," I told him. "She said that a witch called it dream walking."
"You are sure that it was The Lady?" Sig was tough to convince.
"Absolutely."
"I believe her," Bredon added.
"This will not be good if word spreads," Sig cautioned.
"How will it spread? I won't introduce myself as Sage, who has dreams where I interact with the Goddess."
"Of course, you would not," Bredon said harshly. "I am troubled that The Lady said your path will not be smooth. I do not like the sound of that."
I didn't either, but voicing my concern would do no good.
"Are you working in the storeroom today?" Bredon asked.
"Yes. We made good headway, thanks to your help." I wanted to finish this task.
Bredon looked torn.
"I'll either be working in there or hang out here. You don't need to worry."
"Darling, I will worry. That is my right as your mate."
"I didn't tell you about the dream walking to upset you." He carried so much weight on his shoulders as it was.
"You should tell me. You are special, and if The Lady chooses to share information, it must be important."
"We don't have a timeline," I reminded him.
"Something will happen soon. I feel it," Sig grumbled.
I think we all believed that, but I didn't need to hear one of them say it. "Not helping, Sig." I smiled to soften my words.
"Be watchful," he said.
The problem was that I was unsure what I was to avoid.
