Chapter 29

Myla

Two weeks later.

“Are you coming to say goodbye to Blythe?” I asked Theron over breakfast.

My mates and I had made it a habit to eat breakfast together each morning since Theron and I left later than the others. It gave us a little extra quality time before we went to our respective jobs.

Alpha Wynn had created a caretaker position for me with the elders of our pack, and it was now my job to check in with them. I reported their needs to the necessary officials and helped Korren with their medical care.

The job was as fulfilling as it was enjoyable.

“Yeah,” Theron replied. “I’ll head out with you and go to work after we see Blythe off.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

I thought about Blythe as we rinsed our dishes. We had become close in our short time together, and knowing she wouldn’t be around anymore made my chest tight. She’d apologized profusely for not being in the field on time when we’d lured Alpha Kane, but one of the Blood Moon wolves had caught her, and it took her some time to fight him off. I told her it was all right, but she still felt guilty.

Brielle and I had spent every second we could with Blythe, soaking up the limited time we had left. Even though she said it was fine, I couldn’t help but feel I was the reason she was leaving with the Silver Fang pack.

Theron and I left the house, and when we reached the front gates, we saw Gentry, Silas, and Bowen waiting with Alpha Wynn, Bishop, Blythe, Brielle, and her mates.

Blythe carried a small black duffle and nothing else.

Her face lit up when she saw me. “You made it.”

“As if I’d miss a chance to see you off.” I pulled her into my arms, knowing she wouldn’t be the one to hug me.

Blythe was committed to showing everyone she was okay. I had no doubt it was true, but she was trading everything she knew for an uncertain future.

This would be her second time doing so in a short amount of time.

Brielle joined us and leaned in so only we could hear. “If you don’t want to go through with it, we can sneak you away. We’ll just tell Alpha Declan you ran.”

I snorted.

We both knew that male would hunt her down.

In the two weeks since the battle, he’d contacted Alpha Wynn every other day to check on Blythe. He even requested to speak to her on a few occasions.

“Thanks for the offer, but I think I’ll be fine,” Blythe said.

We heard wheels on gravel and turned to the gate. A large black truck pulled up, but Alpha Declan climbed out of the driver’s seat instead of the Enforcers we’d expected.

Blythe stiffened.

“Did he come alone?” I asked, craning my neck to peer through the windshield.

“Looks that way,” Brielle said tightly.

The two Alphas greeted each other, and then Alpha Declan said hello to the males with Alpha Wynn before walking up to Blythe, his gray eyes focused on her.

“I told you not to test me,” he said softly.

Blythe narrowed her eyes at him. “Whatever. It’s your time you’re wasting, not mine.”

“You’ll never be a waste of time,” he replied.

Okay. Apparently, their phone calls were more interesting than she let on.

Brielle and I locked eyes, and she raised a brow, just as lost as I was.

“Ladies,” Alpha Declan said, taking Blythe’s bags as she pointedly ignored him.

She said her goodbyes, promising to visit at the end of the month.

Instead of being upset with her short behavior, Alpha Declan appeared amused—perhaps even delighted.

As we watched them drive away, Bowen whispered, “Imagine what that’ll be like for the first few weeks.”

“I kind of want to see it.”

“You and me both,” Theron said.

I swung my legs as I waited for the test results from Korren’s labs. He had been closely monitoring all the Omegas since the witch attack to ensure there were no side effects of the magic.

After we finished here, the boys and I were taking a rare day off and having a picnic. We spent our mealtimes together, but work took up most of our days, and we were overdue for some alone time.

My mates sat in chairs against the wall. I was getting used to their pensiveness when it came to my health. They tried to disguise their worry, but it was a common occurrence anytime I was in the medical building.

“Relax,” I said. “You’re freaking me out.”

“Who?” Bowen asked.

“All of you. It’s just a normal checkup. There’s nothing wrong with me.”

“We know,” Gentry said. “In theory, at least.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Don’t rile them up.”

“I’m not trying to. I’m just saying Korren does these checks for a reason. It could be nothing, but there’s always a possibility of something.”

I groaned. “Positive thoughts, do you hear me? I’m not wasting our day off in a bubble because you’re afraid something will happen.”

My mates were some of the most overprotective, overthinking males I’d ever met.

Gentry held up his hands. “I won’t say another word.”

Korren walked in, and all my mates snapped to attention.

“Good news. Your test results came back, and everything looks great. You’re in perfect health, but I’ll have to see you on a regular basis from now on.”

Theron’s face dropped. “If she’s fine, why does she need to see you?”

Bowen stood and came to my side as if preparing to protect me.

“Congratulations, Myla. You’ll welcome your first pup into your den in about four months.”

The room was silent.

We hadn’t spoken much about pups. Sure, there was passing mention of them, but never anything notable.

I looked at my mates’ careful expressions and realized they were waiting for me to react.

“We’re going to be parents,” I said in a hushed voice.

Awe and happiness ballooned within me and poured down our bond.

I was in Bowen’s arms before I could process what was happening. Theron, Silas, and Gentry were right behind him.

I felt their delight in my chest, followed closely by a surge of protectiveness. We weren’t just becoming a family—we were making one.

We were enough for each other—would fight for each other—and that was all that mattered.
