Knox was excited to join the organized crime unit of the FBI, but his new team was less than impressed by the hotshot omega taking a coveted position. So when the opportunity to ship him out to the tiny town of Gilded Lake, Montana came up, everyone recommended him for the job, knowing he probably wouldn't survive his first week in the field.

Mayor Luca Francesco owned not only the little town of Gilded Lake but most of the small towns across the northern mountain states. The Feds tried over and over again to shut him down, but there was never anything they could directly tie to the Francescos.

When Knox showed up pretending to be the new assistant to the mayor, it was clear he'd been sent to infiltrate the organization. But all he ends up infiltrating is the older mayor's heart. They both feel the pull to each other, but the only chance they have for happiness is to appease the Feds in a different way.
